A little confused about sizing

Recommended Posts

I've found a few pairs of Kor Shift 1's left at a LHS in Saskatchewan. I'm in Nova Scotia, so I'm having them shipped. While I'm sure the owner would allow me to exchange an incorrect size (I'll confirm this first, of course), I'd like to try and get the size right the first time, so as to save time and money on shipping costs. I've seached through a lot of posts on here about sizing, and seem to have found some conflicting information about Kors.

I was measured as a 7.5 on the Bauer Brannock device. I am currently wearing a size 8 Graf 705 and found the 7.5 to be too small. I've read that Kor should fit a half size up from Bauer (eg. I'd be an 8). I've also read that Kor should fit a full size up from Graf (eg. I'd be a 9). Thus, these two pieces of information differ by a full size. By this logic, (if I understand correctly) I should be wearing a size 7 Graf, which would be impossible.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me; I'm obviously confused. Should I order my Kors relative to Bauer (eg. get a size 8) or relative to Graf(get a size 9)? Or maybe I should split the difference and get an 8.5 Kor...

Any thoughts?

I would go to the KOR website or even better call them and check what size they recommend. If you are currently wearing Bauer skates give them the size you wear in them only to avoid any confusion issues with other brands of skates.They should be able to convert the size pretty closely to what you need. I tried on a pair of Kors last summer in a size 8 at the Toronto Hockey Store and I personally found them a bit on the smaller side. I wear a size 8 Bauer skate so an 8.5 would probably have fit me just fine. ;)

As a rough guide, why not check by the holder size eg 280, then narrow it down from there.

I know its not a perfect option but can be used.

Also why not use the euro sizing, ive found that to be very helpful for sizing here in the uk.

You could try tracing and then measuring your feet in cm. According to the KOR fit guide document KOR emailed to me a while ago 7.5 = 26.0cm, 8 = 26.5 cm, 8.5 = 26.9 cm, 9 = 27.3 cm. For reference purposes I wear 8.5D KOR Shift1's and they fit well (very snug with no extra space and my feet right to the end, but with no pain). I fit into a 7.5E CCM Vector, 8.5EE Mission L7, when I tried on Bauer Vapors it seemed like 8EE woudl be the correct size, in Bauer One90 skates I believe I would take 7.5E (tried on a teammates 7.5D One90s and they were perfect lengthwise, but a little too narrow). I've never worn or tried on Grafs so I can't help there. I wear 10.5 running shoes and 10E or 10W dress shoes. Hope that helps.

Oh, and Euro sizes for the Shift 1's are:

7.5 = 41.5

8 = 42

8.5 = 42.5

9 = 43.5

The holders on my 8.5 KORs are 272mm.

These were my lengths in various skates

Kor Shift 1-size 7

Bauer 8090-size 6.5

Vapor XXXX-size 6

One90-Size 5.5

Synergy 1500x-size 7

Graf 502-size 6.5

hope that helps

I've found that Kor is about 3/4 size off from Bauer. I'm wearing a size 9 8090, it's very snug but my toes don't hurt... my 9.5 Kors are a little too tight, and a size 10 Kor feels a tiny bit bigger than I'd like.

The only way to get proper sizing is to try the skates on. I've seen so many people use e-guides or forums to size and end up screwed. Make sure you can return them.

Thank you for the responses, everyone; they've been very helpful. I spoke with Dave Woronuk at Kor this evening, and I must say, he was extremely helpful. He was very polite, and seemed to show a genuine interest in making sure I had a positive experience with his product. He even asked me to provide some feedback on the skates once I had used them a few times.

I told Dave my concerns with sizing, and told him I had traced and measured my foot (thanks althoma1). He said that my foot size (10 3/8") would be a size 8.5 in the Shift 1. He also told me I'd probably take a size 8 in the Shift 2, as they run a little bigger (something I didn't know).

He emailed me the newer baking instructions, and said:

"By the way, we compared the length to a Mission measurement and our length should match Mission exactly. So if you have a local Mission supplier, you might want to try those on to get the proper sizing."

Again, thanks to all those who offered advice. I can't say enough about the service I received from Kor.

The only problem I have is that you should not visit a Mission supplier to use them as sizing for Kors. They are not sizing depts for a skate they don't sell. That's unfair to abuse and cheat them. Find a KOR dealer, or ask your dealer to carry KORS.

This is a very valid point. Luckily, I've already tried on Missions: The 120 AG were the other skate I was seriously considering while skate shopping.

In case it helps, I was a size 9d in a CCM 1152 tack and was a 10 in a Kor Shift 1 when I had tried it well over a year ago.

I am in a CCM Pro Tack now which may not be apples to apples, but I am now in a 9e Pro Tack (needed the wider box which is why I switched from the 1152) and that is a Eur44, UK9.5, CM27.7

That was a great suggestion about using European sizes to figure out your skate size. I've done that switching from one brand to another as well because it gives you a better/closer reference for fitting. I knpw I fit well into a 42 or 42.5 in most of the popular brands so I've used that as a guide.

Hmmm.... perhaps we should start a thread cross referencing skate sizes for people's reference?

For example:

I am a 9d in skate whatever, and have also worn 10a in mission whatever. Euro sizes are.... blah-blah...
