Ah, sooo seductive :(

i live 1 1/2 hours west of boston and it takes me about 3 hours to get to NYC by car, mapquest says 3 hours 56 from boston to NYC so i guess that's about what a bus would take.. no clue about a train though.

Sounds ok to me. I got an iPod and a lot of time. Problem is that i will have some (or at least 1) suitcase with stuff with me. Or ill get me such a campingbackpack which is about 1 meter high and you can put your whole closet in it.

The Fleet Center, or whatever they call it now, in Boston isn't a very good hockey venue. Tickets are always available, though. I'd encourage you to see a Harvard game. That arena is intimate and beautiful and the hockey is normally pretty good.

For Boston area hockey shops, the Sports Etc. in Arlington, MA is the best one I ever found when I lived there.

For Boston sight-seeing, I'd say spend more time in Cambridge than in Boston.

I'm sure everybody who posts will have different advice, but I'm sure whatever you do, you'll have fun.

One other thing: email ahead of time and try to line up some pick up hockey in each town. No better way to meet people.

Any clue how long it takes from Boston to NYC? By train, by bus?

bus will probably be about 5 hours, train I am not sure. You can take the fung wah bus from boston to NY and it will only cost 15 bucks, if you're looking to save a couple of bucks.

There are hundreds of other great restaurants in Toronto and at least as many fantastic bars.

I was under the impression that Sven wanted to head up to Toronto for the hockey related attractions. If thats the case, i was just trying to save some possible disappointment like i felt after making the trip.

Sure theres other things to do in Toronto, but on a trip to great cities like NYC, Boston, and Detriot, Toronto is lacking.

Scratch dinner at Legal's. Dinner pretty much anywhere in the North End for Italian is a much better option.

I was looking at stuff within a three block radius, makes for an easy afternoon.

You proved that you have no credibility with that statement.

The North End is real close to the new Garden and with the Expressway gone thanks to the Big Dig, a much safer trek.

I agree with all the folks here, I had a great time in Toronto when I went. That, and the HHOF was one of my favorite afternoons ever. Who cares that you enter through a mall, it is what is inside that counts.

If this kid is looking to make it a real hockey trip, Boston would be the way to go. You've got the Bruins, BC, BU, Northeastern, and Harvard all in the city. Then, a short 35 minute commuter train ride and cab ride away is the Lowell Devils. A longer commuter rail ride gets you down to Providence to see the P-Bruins. An hour ride north of the city takes you to UNH, 30 miles west and you're at a Worcester Sharks game.

RE: Toronto being a great city--I wholeheartedly agreed.

RE Transport from NYC to Boston: I recommend the Amtrak Acela train. It's high speed, at least to New Haven last time I took it, then switches over. About 2+ hours and very comfortable. Also, look into last minute business shuttle flights (Delta has one I know). 1 hour flight time and I've gotten last minute tickets for $99. They take off every hour during the day, so there are always open seats--and all the seats are business class size. If you fly and the weather is good, I highly recommend the water taxi from Logan to Rowe's Wharf in Boston. It's the best way to see the skyline and it's a charming way to get to town.

Still, I say the Acela train is the best way to travel, all things being equal. You can get up and walk around and buy food, every seat has a plug in for a computer, and you can see the country side, or what's left of it. Also, the high speed aspect is pretty cool to experience.

Sven,

If you need any info on where to go in Manhattan, feel free to PM me and I'll point you in the right direction or if you are in town on a weekend we can meet up for a beer and I can show you the good places to go for cheap drinks, and chea...err I mean cute women.

I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery so no hockey for me till November/December.

I figure I would pay it forward since a fellow ModSquader showed me around Montreal when I went up there a few years ago...having a local point you in the right directions makes a big difference.

Next trip for me is Germany and Sweden.
