For what its worth....About a month ago, I emailed easton asking them if they could email me back any information on the eyelets that are used in last years 1500's, since mine are a year old and need some service to extend the life of the skate. I planed on paying for the eyelets and either doing the work myself or having someone else do it, but after a month of no contact i figured they weren't going to care about some random guy in last years skates.....I get home today, and theres a Fed-x envelope here, they sent me a shitload of two peice eyelets for free.

All I gotta do now is find out if these things epoxy together or just crimp or something. Either way, that is pretty decent of easton I think. Its nice to get a little customer service every now and then.

The eyelets need to be sealed together using a rivet machine. Any respectable LHS or even a shoe shop should be able to handle it.

respectable LHS are in short supply here in buffalo. I went to great skate the other day and they wanted $50 to bake a pair of skates.......$50 to put a pair of skates in an oven for 4 minutes.....not joking, just because I didn't buy them from their store.

yeah yeah, screw the customer just because he didn't buy his skates from your shop. I would have bought the skates there but they didn't have my size, so I had to get them somewhere else.

And I don't care how you put it, $50 for 4 minutes in your oven is nothing but screwing someone whos options are limited....Lucky for me, I drove 10 minutes away to the LHS at the Amherst Pepsi center, and the guy baked them for free, just because he felt bad that greatskate was trying to screw people.

Not to mention greatskate has a sign up that says "we take pride in our sharpenings" yet they destroyed the toes/profile on my One90s. After my tirade they gave me new steel and hopefully fired the kid who sharpened my skates.

I just want to ask a quick question. You said that you're options were limited because they didn't have your size. Did you speak to the LHS about ordering a pair for you or did you just go ahead and order them online after you found out that they didn't have your size in stock?

I ment my options were limited as far as getting a pair of skates baked. If I could bake them in my oven at home I would, but since I have to get them done at a LHS....great skate, knowing there are only 3 places you can really geat a pair of skates baked in western NY, has started ripping people off at $50 a pop.

As for the skates themselves, they are 1500's, so they are last years model. I like the fit of them over eastons current skate line. I tried on a few other pairs of skates there, but nothing felt as I wanted them to, so I found a pair on the internet and ordered them. I would have been open to buying a lower end skate from last years synergy line, but they didn't have any stock in my size that I would be open to buying.....I've never asked this particular LHS to order me a pair of skates, but I have asked them to order my a OPS, and they told me they don't make special orders for whatever thats worth.....

Reguardless, If I was running a bussiness, and someone came in looking for something as trivial as a skate bake, I would rather take care of that person, and charge them maybe $10, so that they would be happy and return later on, then try and rip them off simply because they didn't buy the skates that happen to fit their feet best from my store......

I understand your point of view and I see why you would feel that way.

...but please keep in mind that there are two sides to every coin. A LHS has every right to charge whatever they want for their service and for whatever reason. Most people realize that when you buy skates online you'll save a little money but then you'll have to pay a little extra to get them baked, sharpened, etc. That's a decision that you have to weigh. Sure $50 may seem like a lot for a few minutes but you are not paying for the product. You're paying for the service. And it's a service that only they can provide.

Look at it this way - I recently had to buy a new key for my car. It was one that I could only get from the dealer. When I saw the price I thought, "surely it can't cost this much to make a key." But it's not like I could go to Walmart and pick one up for cheap. They were the only option so I didn't really have a choice.

But like I said - two sides to every coin. You scratch their back and they'll scratch yours. If you show loyalty to them then I'm sure that they will go out of their way to help you. But it starts with the customer first. If you bought skates there, they would sharpen and bake them and whatever else for you at the time that the sale is made. It's not fair to expect them to give you all of that upfront and then hope, years down the road when you need skates again, that you'll come back.

Again, I understand your point of view as the customer. I just hope that I can help you, and others, understand how the other side thinks.

It's not fair to ask them to go out of their way to provide a service for a product that you didn't buy from them. If you buy a dvd player from walmart and it doesn't work, you can't expect to take it to best buy and have them fix it without charging extra.

How am I supposed to do that though? Buy skates from them that don't fit my feet right? I can understand if they wouldn't process a warrenty claim, or do some sort of free warrenty repair work or something to that effect. But I can't see how you can justify grossly over charging for a trivial service, just because "you didn't buy your skates from us".

Maybe if they were charging a small markup over market price, but when one LHS is trying to charge $50, and the LHS literally 5 minutes down the road normally charges $10, but is now giving it away for free just to please the customers your store has angered....thats not right. Thats nothing more then trying to take advantage of customers who don't know any better.

heres a thign about easton skates. teammate had his blow out on the sides after 1 month, went to where he got them , and saw an easton memo that says when you see this tell the customer the buy super glue and super glue the skate. not only do i consider this unacceptable, but it shows how poor easton skates are. i would never give easton a dime when it came to skates, since they change that brutal line every year.

I've glued mine several times...as long as the carbon fiber isn't damaged, theres no reason you can't glue them back together. Im pretty sure the stuff on the sides is nothing but decoration. I'll admit that I was pretty pissed the first time I had to glue them, but I guess with the performance of the skate, Its a small price to pay. If you keep on top of it, you can really extend the life of the skate, and the damage will be really limited.....

We have a lot of people come into the shop asking us to fix Great Skate's hack-jobs. Most of the time it's just a matter of taking-off a little extra steel to correct uneven edges, but we've also had to tell people that they have no choice but to buy a new pair of steel.

Not being from around here, you really didn't know any better. Most locals know to stay away from Great Skate when it comes to sharpenings, repairs and holder swaps.

because Greatskate is 5 minutes closer to my house. I didn't know that they were charging $50 until I took my skates there, so then I got back in my car and drove 5 more minutes to the other LHS, and got taken care of just fine.

They don't have telephones in upper New York state?

Everything carries an extra cost when you're hopping around shops. I happen to work at the shop in the Pepsi Center, and we always have to deal with people bringing the skates they bought on-line in to get baked. It's a stark contrast to the people we have come in regularly...and if we don't have what they need, they don't go to Great Skate - they go to the other (larger) Front Row Sports location right across the border.

We might take care of you, but there is usually some "special treatment" that goes along with being a loyal customer. That's just the way things are. I'm guessing you either dealt with Chris (short guy, glasses) or Ben (stocky guy, always wearing a Gongshow hat)...they must've felt charitable that day, because baking skates not bought at our store usually costs $10.

Your right - It is completely my fault for not calling ahead to make sure they hadn't changed their policy to now include a 500% price increase. Do you call around to all the stores in town every time you need to buy a gallon of milk?

OR - there are basicly three places in WNY where you can get a pair of skates baked, I got the skates and needed them baked on short notice. One proshop isn't really open until 3pm on most days - the other two are located within 5 minutes of each other. I went to greatskate, found out what they were trying to do, and drove over to the pepsi center where the guy did them for free, said he has been getting people every day with the same problem.

because baking skates not bought at our store usually costs $10.

Thats a hell of alot different then the $50 great skate wanted. I don't know, maybe he just threw it in because I got a sharpen and a mouth guard, but I was under the impression that it was free do to things at the other store. Either way, I would have gladly paid $10 at either store.......

Do you call around every time you get your skates sharpened? Same thing, simple little service, that shouldn't cost more then $10. What if all of a sudden your LHS started charging $50 for every sharpen for skates that weren't bought from their store? you'd be pissed.

Wow, your analogies are still terrible. Keep up the good work.

well i'll tell you after 1 month the skates are done, he got xxxxs. It was blown out on the side where he couldnt skate. Crazy glue? sure spend 500$ what 5$ more. Any company that says crazy glue your $500 skates is a joke. theyve got sticks down, but skates just leave the market already. And a price for performance? buddy you cant skate with broken skates, and the xxxs and the xxxxs on the team after one month arent looking like shit, or broken.
