I don't have a problem with gay people, unless they are being especially open about their sexuality (eh... exploits), or they're doing any of the number of things that are normally irritating, no matter what the person's orientation is.

Translation: You can be gay, just not around me.

It occured to me a little while ago ... if the guy who started this post has been on other sites talking about this "gay hockey" website, then maybe he is just trying to whip up some hype for the HIS site.

There is 4 pages on this site now, I don't know how many on other sites, but by creating this debate and raising the profile of gay hockey players and the corresponding website .... the guy who started this may have achieved the aim.

Call me cynical, but the way the guy is carrying on (with the recent picture on the photo's of yourself thread) I'm positive there is another agenda .... how many people who have read this have visited the gay hockey site? ... hits hit hit for sponsorship for the site.

Your stereotyping a lot of people here. I don't find it's used as a joke around here, and it's seldomnly used to say the least.

Being gay....personally I don't have a problem with people that are gay. What I do have a problem with is gay people that feel like flaunting it in a simply disgusting manner for nothing more thank shock value. That I simply have ZERO respect for.

GoHabsGo - I do not know if you are orginally from the UK or live over here now ... but either way I am glad to see the cynic coming out of you the same as me .. whether you were born on these shores or it has been picked up/encouraged since a move here ....I salute you ..... We both know old Tim-Tim is trying to raise some interest in this site.

Did anybody ever stop to think that gay people just do not run up to every person of their gender to see if they want to have sex with them? No matter what you guys are thinking, you just don't run up to every woman you see and say "You're hot, let's have sex." Gay people will seek out their own. They are not interested in converting everyone to their team.

All depends on how much I've been drinking, the hitting on women thing.

Just stop trying to justify it...I don't give a shit where you're from, it shouldn't be tolerated. It makes you look ignorant.

If you were in a locker room with me, would you call me a nigger? I'd think not.

Locker room talk is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen to be honest. I've seen/heard sexual inuendo, bravado, racism, sexism, bastardisation. All over the course of 10 years of playing "hockey" in one form or another. The thing I've learnt most is that when you find a good group of guys stick with it as it makes such a huge difference to your game and maybe even life to be in a room where everyone is on the same page.

I've also learnt with certain crowds that if you aren't getting in on the "stick it to em" attitude then you can leave yourself open to being a target or more often then not, not bond with the guys as well as you could leaving yourself high and dry for assistence on the rink. Though I never bully, commit racist acts or step over the "line".

As a younger kid I was unfortunate to play my first state tournament with a group of racist, bullying and ignorant group of guys. In particular one guy just couldn't seem to stop riding me. The coaches did nothing and it was unfortunate that the only way I could the kid to stop hassling me was to knock him onto the floor. Even now, I regert the action but feel even to this day I was left with no other choice to end the bullying.

I guess what Im really getting to is whether its racism, sexism etc its all in good fun as long as no one is getting offended. If that takes place you have to in good concience stop. You owe it to your teammates and yourself to stop as otherwise a mutual respect is lost forever and thats not worth it ever just for a quick joke off the ice.

I find a lot of these open mindend posts on "gays" to be very interesting.

"I'm OK with them".

"I don't have a problem with gay people."

You're still setting them aside. Something "more or less" than human.

Also, compliments given such as "they have good taste" are also stereotypes. It's just like when we try and flatter a race by saying something along the lines of, "Koreans are an industrious people."

In my head, people are all people. The world is just a small town, and really, we all want the same things. I also don't think homosexuallity is a choice (and I'm not looking for debate on this) and so I don't treat them any differently than I would any other person.

I DO have a problem with "queens" though. The sassy, Prada stomping, gays that will shout things along the lines of, "Get a new calendar sister! It's 2007!"

I'm not overtly proud of my heterosexism, and I don't show off about it. I really hate the 'macho' idiots that do this, and equally have a problem with gays that make it their priority you're aware of the fact that they're gay.

THAT'S a character flaw. Not the fact that they are gay.

How do you suggest we differentiate each other, then? How do we classify that particular group? For the sake of conversation (especially one like this) it has to be done.

Oh, I wasn't trying to bring debate into this at all, really. Just my take.

I don't know, I don't refer to "black" people as "them". I guess I'm too much of a dreamer and decided that they don't need a 'special' classification. I don't like labels at all though. Not black, not cracker, not Asian, etc. It'd be good if we could all be "people". I mean, black people are black because of higher levels of melanin (so why are they a minority? That's like saying men with lower testosterone levels such be accepted as a 'minority') and etc? Is it because different customs? There's a lot of different customs amongst white people, so why are we lacking subdivisions (unless you count 'bikers, preps, nerds', etc'.)

Anyway, this is all convoluted, and I'm half asleep. I guess my point is that it is mydesire to someday remove all 'labels' of 'minority'.

I say this as a man who profits from his "White" appearance.
