NFL: Ricky Williams done

Recommended Posts

I keep thinking that there is something everyone is missing. It is just too wierd that he up and retired. I keep running it through my head that retirement would void a contract and so coming out of retirement would mean he could sign with any team without the consent of the Phins. I am more than likely grasping at straws.

No, I'm pretty sure he's still a Dolphins for the full length of the contract. When the contact is up he could sign with another team, but not before. I remember that from when Barry Sanders retired.

I can't say this really surprises me. Rick has always been different kind of guy. He is just out there in his own world, this came as a shock at first but then i thought about it and Williams is definetly a guy i can see doing this. He had to be one of the weirdest guys in the league.

stole this off another site...

I was gonna play football, untill I got high,

I was gonna go to Training Camp, but I got high.

Now I'm retireing, and I know why,

Yeah, yeah, cause I got high, cause I got high, cause I got high!

I was gonna run for 2000 yards, but then I got high,

I was gonna break the rushing record, but then I got high.

Now I'm going on a one way trip, and I know why,

Yeah, yeah, cause I wanna get high, I wanna get high, I wanna get high.

I don't wanna run in the sun, I wanna get high,

I don't wanna help my team, I wanna get high,

Now South Florida hates me and I know why,

Yeah, yeah, cause I got high, cause I got high, cause I got high.

La Da Da Da Da.

I accendently cut my hair, cause I got high.

I don't remember doing it, cause I was high.

Now I'm growing it back, and I know why,

Yeah yeah, cause I'm still high, cause I'm still high, cause I got high.

I can't remember the words, damn I'm so high.

I think I might take a nap, damn I'm so high.

I always have the munchies, and I Know why,

Yeah, yeah, cause I'm so high, cause I'm so high, cause I'm so high.

I'm smoking some much weed, it's hard to get high,

I need bigger and better drugs, it's hard to get high,

Now, I'm hitting the crack pipe, and I know why,

Yeah, yeah cause I got high, cause I got high, cause I got high.

La Da Da Da Da Da.

Yea it really is too bad. As a Dolphins fan, I really am PISSED about it, it couldnt have come at a worse time. Why Ricky Why? And now Dave is probably gunna get fired sometime this year also. Its amazing how much one player can impact a team.

It's one thing to bail on your team. It's a totally different thing to screw them when you run out the back door. I don't know of a more chickenshit thing done by a pro athlete.

On the news they said he left because he was more concerned about his education and he's gonna go back to texas. They also said that he wants to help young kids. He seems to be a better person than most NFL players, he never ran over anyone in his car(randy moss, pittman). I'm sure that everyone on this board would love to train 8 hours a day in the off season, then practice and study all day during the regular season and not to mention get nailed every sunday for a job you don't like and a lifestyle that you have no need for. Even the dolphins said he realizlized he didn't want to play last week and the coach told him to wait on his decision.

Moss never ran anyone over with a car...the parking meter lady was just trying to milk some cash out of him.

I am a Moss apologist. I don't think he is nearly as bad as the press indicates. IMO, he isn't the brightest bulb on the tree and can be coaxed into saying stupid things. Media loves that stuff. He is kinda like Barasso. He got burned by the media a few times, so clammed up and stopped talking. That left only one side of the coin to be heard with no explination.

A few examples:

1) The infamous "I play when I want to play." It was a quote taken out of context from an interview in the Pioneer Press. It was regarding Carter's increasingly frequent sideline antics, Moss was asked "does Carter's actions motivate you to play", then came the quote. Context is everything. It is also worth noting that Moss has never missed an NFL game.

2) The Meter Maid. Moss never ran anybody over. He was following another car making an illegal turn. The lady ran into the ran and stood in front of his car. After a verbal confrotnation, the meter maid jumped on his hood TJ Hooker style, as he coasted through the turn and pulled over a few feet down the road. Eye witnesses supported Moss' version of the story and most of the charges were dropped. The meter maid was let go because of multiple confrontations like this. Not surprisingly, she (and her boyfriend) pressed a multi-million dollar lawsuit over the event. It was thrown out.

3) Bad teammate. I guess this primarily stems from his sideline duels with Carter. Problem is that the rest of his teammates love him. It is virtually impossible to find any one of them with something negative to say. Here is a story didn't get as much press as any of Moss' other actions. When Stringer was dying from heat stroke, the first person to call his wife was Moss. Moss had her on a chartered privated flight to Mankato in hopes that she might get to see Kory one last time before anybody else even contacted her.

4) Pot head. Moss got into trouble in college, but has never been suspended by the NFL for drug use. One positive test gets you into the system, but this is never released to the public. The second gets you suspended. Moss has, at most, one positive test.

In all, I think Moss gets a bad rap. I think he has a chip on his shoulder and he hates the media. He is no rocket scientist and he doesn't surround himself with the best influences (the "posse" lifestyle), but you can say that for tons and tons of athletes. While he is by no means a saint, he isn't the selfish thug he is painted out to be.

I'd put him down as best offencive player of the league. So what if he has a bad rap and worse grill.

Honestly, no one can break a game open like he can. Madden said it himself if he was building an offense he would start with Moss.

First off, Madden is an idiot. There's no way that I'd take a WR to build an offense around. Moss is more of an athlete than a WR. He doesn't run the best routes and mainly uses his size and speed to get the long pass. If I was building an offense that used the WCO, then Moss might not even be on my team. I'd probably start with Peyton Manning, despite the fact that he's never won a few big games in a row.

Moss does takes plays off and he's only good when he wants to be. I think he did get a bad rap the year Culpepper sucked and all three of them (with Carter) were whiny little bitches. He's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be, but he's not an angel either.

Dan Le Batard, of the Miami Herald, reports retired RB Ricky Williams admitted Thursday, July 29, that he learned of a third failed test for marijuana use and a potential upcoming suspension just days before informing Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt of his decision to quit football. Williams would be forced to serve a four-game suspension if he returned to play in the NFL. Williams also added that the Dolphins were not aware of the failed test or the results of his appealed second one. He said there were "a hundred reasons" for his retirement and his desire to continue smoking marijuana without reserve was only one of them. "I didn't quit football because I failed a drug test," Williams said. "I failed a drug test because I was ready to quit football."

Damn pothead.

Yeah I just got back from lunch and Dan Patrick was talking about that. And here I was willing to take a possible late flyer on him in the draft. Now he'll have to go back to baseball for snow money.

Yeah, he played for...I want to say the Cubs, but I could be wrong. It's why he got a little bit of a late start for football.

I didn't know that.

Geez, between Carter, Henson, and Hutchinson, you'd think they were trying to form their own baseball team from QBs.

Should have done a swap with the Rangers and at least get something for Carter. It's a shame they already cut the Singing QB Hutchison though, now I have no clue who they'll be tossing in there. With their WRs though I think my Mr. Obscurity will be Henson.

I didn't think Hutch looked that bad before he got cut. If Henson can get back into the flow, he has the most skill.

That's what they're going with but some scouts are saying he's throwing at his receivers' feet and some others say he's ready to be the starter. I say let Vinny go until he gets Montana'd by some DE.
