Best Non-Tapered Shaft?

Recommended Posts

$40 is a good deal for the cyclone. It's a top notch shaft, made with the same compression molding process as the ultralite and zbubble.

I've had a couple of 95 flex cyclones and love 'em to death. The rounded edges just feel right in your hand. For $40, you can't go wrong.

Yeah the $40 is tempting, but I've bought at least half a dozen "bargain bin" items that just get thrown into the pile of sticks and I really don't want to waste any more money on something unless it's exactly what I want. Of course, I don't know what I want anyway

Another question, does the Z-Bubble blade flex enough that it makes a difference on your shaft selection? In other words, would a 70 flex shaft and a Z-Bubble feel more like a 65 flex?

I'm liking the idea of a One90 shaft and Z-Bubble combo now...

I think Jarick meant to say focus flex or z-carbon, not z-bubble. If that is the case, I remember asking about at what flex the focus flex would actually makes a difference way back in the day at the easton MB and there never really was an answer that I can remember.

Picked up a Cyclone 70 flex shaft and Montreal M95 Euro 5 blade. Just got done shooting at the range, what an amazing shaft. Wristers come off reasonably fast but more accurate than anything else I've used, slappers are surprising fast as well AND staying at a good height. Doesn't feel like a 70 flex, more like a 75. Very happy with this combo, and it feels very durable. Think I'm going to pick up another Cyclone shaft for backup.

Question on the Cyclone shaft:

This thing is listed at a 70 flex but it feels very stiff, more so than 77 flex Bauers, even as stiff as 85 flex Eastons. Are these supposed to break in?

I'm not getting the kind of flex whip on my shots that I'd like and I find I have to really lean into shots a lot more than I'm comfortable with.

Are you comparing standard shafts to standard shafts with the same hosel size? I've found that ops in a certain flex are more whippy than a standard shaft because of the taper. Just something you might want to consider?

Well it's stiffer than my XN10 whip flex standard shaft, stiffer than a 77 flex OPS, stiffer even than 5030 wood sticks. I wonder if I got a 95 flex mismarked?

Quick question for the XN10...by the way got a hook up on some...let me know if anyone is interested...I think they are $85 plus shipping.

I wanted to ask those using the standard 85, or more important, those using the whip flex. i can assume that wristers and snappers must be real fun....but what about one timers and slappers? Curious, as the key difference for me with the XXXX and the One90 is that the XXXX is better for wristers and snappers...whereas the One90 is sick for slappers. I really want to try a whippier shaft, so was wondering about the slapshot thoughts on the whip flex.

If you are a larger, or more powerful shooter, then you will loose a bit of control and power on your slap shots. That was the compromise that I have made in most of my TPS sticks (I have 6 of them). It all boils down to what type of shot you most typically use. For my style of play....loosing a touch on my slap shot was worth the gain that I got on my wrist and snap shots.

Thanks!

That's what I thought. Since I play in a league that doesn't allow slapshots...I might try these out for that league. I figured it would take a lot more velocity to crank a slapper. Going to try one this week.

A different, generally slower, motion is usually the only change you need for slappers with a whip. You need to feel the shaft load and release, it just tales a little practice.

Chadd, did you find your R8 shaft to have more whip than you expected? Reason I ask is because I used to have an Int. R8 OPS which felt like a 75ish, then went to an R8 shaft, which now feels like a 55-60 at best.

No, it feels a bit stiffer than my R flex R2 XN10s, though that could be because they expect the R8 to be paired with longer hosel tapered blades.

Ok, thanks for that. You know the R8 taper blades have extremely short hosels right?

When I ordered my last batch of P31 blades, they asked if I wanted the old style short hosel or the new style long hosel.
