New pants

Recommended Posts

My 8k's are completely falling apart and I need to order something soon. I really liked the fit of these, but they didn't last long enough to warrant buying them again. I'd also like to spend less than $100. Any suggestions for a similar fitting pant?

the only thing that fits like an 8K is...an 8k.

You might want to try a girdle/shell combo, or possibly a 6k since your 8ks didn't live up to the price tag. (similar fit system, lower in price)

If you fit into a small and are considering the girdle route:

I myself just started using a girdle 4 games ago and I really like it. I paid $55 for a Tacks girdle from 247hockey.com ($45 + $10 shipping, only smalls left) and picked up a cheap shell (hockey.lax.com has some for $15 since they're closing out). That would be a total of roughly $70 (+ whatever shipping you need to pay for the shell).

I didn't notice the increased freedom of movement just trying them on at first, but it was slightly more noticeable when I was skating. It wasn't exactly a drastic improvement, but I'm now sticking with the girdle. My only regret is that the girdle seems to offer quite a bit less rib and kidney protection.

And to think, I came so close to just staying with my old pants and selling my unused girdle/shell combo here on MSH...

Does anybody have any experience with the Stealth pants? hockey.lax.com has some cheap.

I have the S5s. Pretty light, can't vouch for their bulkiness as all my pants are bulky. More than enough protection for rec/beer league, but I don't know about full contact. The price they are asking is an awesome deal, in my opinion.

How long did you have them? It seems it could only have been a couple of years since RBK has only been around for a couple years. The reason I ask is that I was thinking of getting a pair. I play 3-4 times a week but, it's open hockey and mens league. I am thinking about a girdle the Bauer One-90 but, for now sticking with my Tackla 9000 Air's.

If your looking for great protection go for the Easton Stealth S-9. Their a little bulky when you first get them but once they loosen up after a few games you have excellent range of movement. I saw them on for $99.99 on one of the on line vendors, I think it was greatskate.com. If that doesn't fit your taste try the Tackla 5000 or 9000. Also a great fitting pant but a bit more expensive.

The thigh zipper seems like such an obviously convenient feature for those of us who tend to lace up our skates before realizing that we haven't put our pants on yet.

This has only happened to me once, but I was so annoyed at having to take off my skates that I remember that moment to this day.

I have the 6k. I love them. Nice and protective. As for the durability I can't really comment as I have only had them for about 2 months but still they look like new!

I would step down from the 8k to 6k but can see if you don't want to stick with rbk.

I don't know what everyone else's opinions are but do you find that top of the line gear is more towards lightness and less on durability?

is that a yes ?

I don't know. I don't have S9s and I've never seen them. :D

The S5s have leg zippers. I'd be really surprised if the S9s didn't.

its a syngery of both. They want them to be light and make it so you can move in the stuff, but at the same time they want / need the stuff to be durable or people will buy something else.

In MY opinion the best pants on the market are the one90s. They are somewhat lightweight, quite protective and probably the most mobile pants I've ever tried on.

Depends on how much you value comfort, protection and mobility.

BTW, The one90 pants are $10 more than the S9s and less than the 8Ks at Hockeygiant.
