wickedwrister 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 3rd pair of pro stocks in a row. All nash palms. All top hand toast in less than 30 skates. I think I shall go back to retail. Anyone else?
CapsFan 5 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Strange... I prefer nash palms. I find them to be more durable than *most* retail palms.
TheProfessor 2 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Aren't a lot of retail gloves made with Nash palms? I've never looked into it, but I seem to remember 10 years ago only lower end gloves were made with Nash palms. The top end models used pigskin, leather, suede and other stuff I can't remember. Anyway, I agree that nash palms never seem to last too long and they don't seem to grip as well.

Anyone else? What kind of tape are you using on the knob? I dunno if it's just me, but I find white tape wears down palms waaaay less than black, and there are a variety of cloth like tapes that are even better. Jarick 5 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Try Powerflex tape, I got about six months out of some goatskin palms skating 3x a week.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I used to have the same problem but since I switched to the foam that Oggie Grip sells, I haven't worn out any palms. It seems to soften the edges enough that they don't wear a hole. I only use the straight lines at the top, not the squiggly lines or other shapes.http://www.oggiegrip.com/sticky-grip-foam.php
krwwc6 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Yea. . . I stopped using tape on my sticks and started using tacki-mac grips about a year ago.My right palm used to get destroyed on every pair of gloves I had and now I have no problems at all.http://www.tackimac.com/
JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Get goatskin palms on the top hand.Fixitbymail used to do it for me and reinforce it with another goatskin patch. Never any problems after that. I'll most likely do that to my Eastons when I get around to it. Send all of them in...
odp 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 No problems with Grip Dr. and Tacki-mac grips.
TomMc#4 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I had this problem i wore a 1" diameter hole through the top hand of my Easton S11 gloves in about a month(skating 2-3 times per week). i only use a tiny knob on my stick, about 2-3mm away the stick at the exact width of stick tape, and then i only put about 2-3" of tape down the shaft at single thickness. its basically just so i know where the end of the stick is as i use grip coated sticks. i have a feeling it may be the subtle square profile to it, but also most probably due to the fact the palms had small ventilation holes in already so basically just widened before merging.thoughts? Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Goatskin is incredible stuff; mustang is apparently quite good too.

Perhaps they use thinner palms on the pro stock stuff, but jeesh it's like wet paper towels as far as durability.
zales17 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 haha, that is awesome that you mentioned "oggie grips" stuff chadd. My cousin used to play on that guys adult league team up in MA. I remember him having a couple prototypes of the product about 5 or so years ago. Its great to see his business is spreading.
Spreedizzle 1 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I tried the Tacki Mac and liked the performance of it, but I prefer the smaller diameter, minnimalist taping job of a very thin layer of tape (white only). I would consider Tacki Mac, or a similar product if they made it a little thinner.

NTKT10 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I use athletic tape like a trainer uses. I like it because it's thin and not anywhere near as rough and tacky as regular cloth tapes. It's very gentle on your palm.

I was thinking it was the friction of the tape to the glove that was making the holes, not the hard surface or shape of the stick.
enwah16 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I started with black tape and then moved to white, but my XXX gloves continued to wear through. So, I switched to Tackimac and what was left on my palm has yet to wear through. That was over six months ago. Go Tackimac.

D-MaN88 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 I personally find electrical tape on top of the hockey tape is the best solution. I only put it where the top part of the nob is formed. I've only blown out one pair of glove palms and ever since I've started doing this I've never had a hole in my palms since.
