2008 Washington Capitals thread

LeCav helped off the ice, and it looks real bad for him. Innocent hit by cooke, vinny gets turned when he hits his own man, then comes down on his elbow/wrist/shoulder.

Hope he is OK.

As for the goal. Absolute BS call. Flash pushed off the defender, happens 20 times a game. Didn't push from behind, or go high on him, just jostling for position. The D-man hit Ramo, who made a save before the shot that went in. He also attempted to save the shot that went in, but couldn't get back in time.

Absolute BS

Theres the goal by ovey though!!!!!

65 on the season, lets get the hattie now ovey!!!!

Yeah, Lecavalier shouldnt have been skating with his head down when Ouellet had the puck. That check shouldn't have been finished, Vinny didnt have the puck. Contact wasn't really avoidable but he definitely could have avoided the hit... Obviously he didnt intend to injure.

Definitely looks like a dislocated shoulder.

On the last replay of that no-goal it almost looked like the puck hit the d-man and not the goalie. I hadn't noticed that before. Was that an optical illusion based on the camera angle or was I just seeing things?

If you were me, would you be following that closely? This team blows. At least Ramo has looked sharp.

True enough. Ramo has been shaky at times tonight too.

I dont pay attention to what he's doing per se, as I am his mechanics. He makes plenty of rookie mistakes. Reese should strap him to the goal so he can't leave the crease.

P.S. Not that I think Reese should stay much longer. ...But I'm not going to steer this convo that way. It's not the thread for that.

Got a little scrappy at the end there eh?

See Brasher go call out the Tampa Bay's bench? Thug :)

Thug? Torts is an asshole that should be suspended. His team was given a penalty he refuses to adhere to it so he can send out 5 guys to start a fight??

Sorry Tampa you already got the benefit of that no goal BS now your trying to fight when your team was outplayed save for your goalie?

Amazing ... I hope Torts gets a lovely suspension.

i dont think he'll get a suspension, but I agree with you.

(BTW, the "thug" comment was a joke, hence the smilie)

good thing that Bradley wasn't roughing people from behind, like hitting smaby in the back when he hasnt touched the puck. Or Cooke hitting Lecavalier when he clearly didnt have the puck, both no calls. Tarnasky challenges Cooke at the faceoff in the 3rd, Cooke skates to bench. It was a dirty game on both sides.

I don't think I will EVER get tired of wathing Ovy celebrate a goal...whether it's his or not.

You never see somebody get that excited for somebody elses goal!

I pretty much agree with this, except for the cooke thing (if you are talking about when lecav got hurt).

It's near the end of the season, Caps need to win, Lightning need to finish the season on a positive, and after the canes game last night were riled up.

It was dirtyish from both sides, bradley was throwing round, as was janick.

For the caps, the last meaningful game this late in they year in the past 5 years was against tampa. They won the first 2 games in that series, then lost 4 straight.

I'm just glad they were able to win one.

The lightning have had their cup and playoff success, the caps are hopefully trending that way now.

Everyone says "I love scoring goals" But I think Alex is the only one who really REALLY loves goals *L* <3

We can agree to disagree on the Cooke/Lecavalier thing. I think he definitely could have pulled up, he could see it coming, Lecavalier couldn't. Janik was throwing the body around but I would too after seeing the game start to break down, then seeing Lecavalier go down, minutes later Kuba gets a high stick(obviously unintentional, but when you dont see it happen and all you see is your buddy go down from a high stick. you take it personal).

If you know anything about Tortorella, he's very anti-hitting, anti-fighting... That is the players sticking up for their teammates, Tortorella has little control over the team at this point. He's long lost any respect he has had.

Watch this clip, about the 59 second mark is the hit.

Vinny does not have the puck on his stick, it's between his feet. It was also a very minor hit, Cooke is already turning away, and after the contact, Cooke gets the puck, and makes a pass.

It's unfortunate what happened vinny, as I said before. I like him, I think he is one of the best in the league. However, the cooke hit was not late or dirty, and he got the puck, and made a pass. It was bad circumstance.

As for Janick, I agree completely. I don't know Tort's stance on the fighting/hitting. I do know I think he is a dick, and I hope he is gone next season. But I'm not going to criticize Janick for going after the caps when I said yesterday it was good on ovey for going after staal after he hit huet late in the glove tuesday.

To me it looks like Ouellet is carrying the puck and Vinny is skating along side him, just as Ouellet loses the puck, Vinny gets hit. It looks like Cooke does turn, to put his shoulder into Vinny. Again, I dont see any intent to injury but I do see interference and MAYBE a cheap shot(I havent made up my mind about that). Cooke could have avoided the hit, seemed like he wanted to pinball them while he had a shot.

I didn't feel like Cooke was trying to layout Vinny, if was a pretty low-key hit, but ok Vinny wasn't the puckcarrier...

If Vinny hadn't got injured nobody would have noticed the hit.

Huge games tonight for the caps.

Right now the caps biggest chance is the Boston/Ottawa game, but I almost gurantee that it'll go to OT...

If the flyers lose tonight, then the caps win and they are in

If the ott/bos game ends in regulation tonight, regardless of who wins, then the caps win and they are in

If the panthers beat the canes tonight either in regulation or OT, then the caps win and they are in (as a 3 seed).

Someone somewhere has to screw up.

And even if none of those results go the caps way, and they win, then the flyers lose to the pens on sunday, the caps are in.

A caps/pens first round matchup would be something. The pens have owned the caps all year.

What I would like is an ottawa win, coupled with a panthers win over the canes, then the caps win tomorrow night and they get the sens in the 3/6 matchup.

Caps swept them this season, and are playing better now
