Crooked Runner

Well so today I take my skates to a different shop to get them sharpened...supposedly the best sharpening in town. It seemed like it was a nice sharpening considering how long I had to wait as compared to the other LHS I was used to heading to. But apparently it took so long cause the guy said he had to grind my skates longer cause they were sharpened poorly as he did the 'quarter test' and found the edges to be at a 15 degree lean. I figured that was reasonable seeing how my inside edges have went to crap quickly the past couple times after I've sharpened....but I took a closer look after I got home and saw the runners are leaning towards one side. I've never noticed it before and it doesn't seem like the holders are mismounted. I've had the skates for almost 2 years and never noticed any wobbling or anything when skating.

**Actually on closer inspection, the blade leans as if I supinate and the right skate blade leans, only a very tiny bit, as if I'd pronate...definitely confused now.

Are the attachments loose and I just need to tighten them or is the steel beginning to bend? And would it matter much at all since the guy tried to level the edges off as best as he could? Any ideas?

Are those Vapor 10s?

My guess is that you most likely pronate - and the additional weight on the inside edges have caused a stress on the holder and have permanently bent the blades outward.

A shim would work in your situation, or stiffer holders aligned inward.

Yeah Vapor 10s.

I know I do pronate a tad, and I've gotten insoles to help combat that a little. Didn't think I was fat enough to bend the thing :P

And on the last comment there, I'm assuming I need to head down to the LHS for a shim? And what holder would should I look at if I do indeed swap...would aligning them inward be a problem? I'm thinking if new holes need to be drilled.

It could be a function of your skating style. As time went by with other skates of mine that had Tuuk + on them, they would start to angle, not as severely as your's, but a bit.

Are the Pitch 3's stiffer? I've got a pair of Vapor 14s that have C+'s on them, and I saw on another thread that the Pitch 3's have the same hole pattern, so I'm thinking about trying them out.

Maybe I am missing something...but isn't the blade bent the wrong way for it to be due to pronation ? Looks like his left skate, so turned over (so the skate is right side up), the blade - as you look down would be bent in...so wouldn't that be supination ?

The steel will bend against the direction that your foot is pushing. If you are pronating then the steel will bend to the inside.

Yeah, I second that. It's back asswards.

Huh? See above. The steel is bent toward his inside edge. This could happen if he were supinating.

All I see is a thumbnail so I can't even tell if that is the left or right boot. If the steel is cocked outward (heavy on the inside edge) he pronates, if they are cocked inward (heavy on the outside edge) he supines.

very few people actually supinate..

your foot should pronate or be neutral throughout its movement, ie. when running..

loads of factors at work here...stride issues.ie where you put down your foot. form through the skate stride, etc...it would seem that if you had excessive pronation issues you would have already known about them..(if you run you'd be some in serious medial posting shoes)and/or see wear on the inside of your current shoes

It's just on one skate?

Mostly with my left skate...I took a look at the right and it's very, very, minute. Not really even noticeable.

Superfeet.

I bought Shock Docs not too long after getting these, and it's helped a lot. Never tried Superfeet...but they'll be next on my list after these insoles break down.

Are the Pitch 3's stiffer?

Any ideas on this at all? Pitch or E-Pros stiffer? Lightspeeds even? Though I'll probably look into getting a shim like JR said, but if I can find a pair of holders cheap I'd be up for that.

They're bent inward, although he says he pronates.

Eerrr now that you mention it.....I know I do pronate cause I do wear Dr Scholl's inserts in my normal shoes cause of it and my arch. But now that you mention it, both the blades lean the same way. The right skate leans as you would suspect for pronation, but the left is bent inward

I believe the pitch 3 is stiffer but not much. The LS2 is a LOT stiffer, E-pros are inbetween. I believe the pitch 3 might be able to mimic the "pitch" of the custom+ but everything else is going to need a profiling or a toe lift.

Buddy, just like my opinion on Klaus, since you seem to be taking my word as gold now lol. I'd suggest you stay away from the E-Pros, my Es broke with very limited abuse compared to my ProLite3s. If it were me I'd go with the LS2, pitch 3 if you had to. Like I said just my opinion.

Happy Thanksgiving, see ya Friday night maybe if not Sunday.
