toe pro on palms?

Recommended Posts

It would never work on palms, but the outside of the glove is possible.

Protectoe does crack off after impact...but is usually more durable on more rigid surfaces, such as skates. Best case scenario it would crack off and make your gloves look pretty ugly. The only real exception could be tufftek, which has a very thin poly coat. You could put a single coat on that or on nylon, but they would get rigid and abrasive...like sandpaper. Your gloves might last a little longer, but anything that rubbed against your gloves would get destroyed.

Come to think of it...that would be one painful facewash with your backhand!

I have found that the best treatment for the palms of my gloves is the Easton baseball glove oil - it keep the leather soft. I am on my second season with my X070's, and the palms are in awesome shape considering.

+1

Or I use a baseball glove conditioning foam that works great also.

I'll be getting some new mitts soon, and I've got some ball glove oil laying around, so I'll likely try that. As some of you may or may not remember, I've gotten into the habit of putting my gloves in plastic bags to keep them from drying-out. Conditioning oil sounds much more sanitary.

i remember you saying you do the plastic bag this a little while ago too, id just like to say, thats absolutely disgusting. but i know what you mean, you dont want the palms drying out and stiffening.

i had a pair of gloves a while ago, that stiffened up almost to the point i couldnt move them, i used olive oil and it seemed to soften them quite a bit

just got a crazy idea..

any one try toe pro on your glove palms/fingers?

to make it last longer? or for added grip?

You had it right the first time, that is a "crazy" idea. Me hopes you were putting us all on.

Personally, I was going to apply bondo body filler to my gloves for a better grip and to fill in the small tears. Incidentally, will that void the warranty?

Maybe we need to move this thread over to "The Crazy Things Customers Do".

if you think that your upper glove hand will get holes soon, use some WAX onto the tape job.

it will help alot.

Wouldn't that simply defeat the purpose of using tape in the first place? If you are looking for a grip, then why wax it to give yourself less friction....or grip?

you would think that but actualy its the oposit, it helps you grip more.

havent you ever waxed your stickblade? it is much more grippy for your hand, but very slidy on ice, only because the surface is smoother.

I've always wondered the same about people using electrical tape. It's nice that it doesn't wear holes in your palms, but isn't it really slippery?

There is a company in California called Chief Firewater that makes surfboard wax remover that thought of your "crazy" idea a long time ago. (but not for palm application). In the hockey heyday of the mid 90's in SoCal, they used to make their own hockey protoe (and a variety of other items like bearing cleaner), and also made a flexible version made specifically for knit gloves to put on backrolls and fingers. If I rember correclty, it was available in black, obviously for yer toes, and clear for yer mits. He also made a surf board spray that was gritty that hockey guys would use on their shafts for a bit more grip.

They have a website, but is just now a surf wax remover cleaner.

Yes. I actually preffer a slick top grip.

Is there a benefit to a super stick/grippy upper hand?
