That may be the dumbest thing I've ever seen a President of anything do on television. What, MLSE can't afford media training?

He'll go West. I say either Detroit...or Anaheim (I think Burke will push hard for Sundin if Selanne doesn't return)

You really think Detroit needs a Sundin? I just don't see that happening.

Go to about the 4:40 mark and watch Peddie's lips very closely while Fletcher is talking...unbelievable.

Ridiculous, but I'm not surprised in the least.

Too many chiefs, not enough indians?

With the way Detroit has struggled in the playoffs since '01, a Sundin would greatly help. That way if one of Dats or Hank dry up, there is not as much worry.

They don't "need" him, but a proven scorer who can put an already overpowering offensive team right over the top...why wouldn't they want him...unless the price is WAY too high.

Alright that's true, I understand that. The only other thing I can see coming into play in that type of deal (even with Anaheim, should it happen) would be his age, and how many years a team thought he had left in him.

Sundin or someone of his caliber would help Detroit immensely. They can't do it with one line and he's near a PPG in the playoffs, so they're going to need him when they inevitably choke.

I doubt he's staying wherever he ends up, he'll be a rental. And I fully expect him to land back with the Leafs next year. A promise to re-sign him in the summer is what Fletch will need to get him to waive his NTC (if he is as serious about staying in TO as he says he is).

That's the dumbest thing I've ever see ANYONE do on TV, forget about President's of anything. It's the exact same thing that happened in Wayne's World when Garth couldn't go on air without mouthing along to the countdown...except that was a joke.

As for Sundin I'm calling it right now: He's not going anywhere.

I can't believe this organization is actually going to pull the chute on a season, the spectre of possibly maybe making the playoffs and getting 2 or 3 home game's revenue is too sweet for them.

I hate that logic. It makes much more financial sense for them to accept the season is over, and do what they can to make the team a contender in the future. Losing in the first round for 5 years, with 2-3 playoff games. Is much worse, financially, then missing the playoffs, for 2 seasons, and having very solid success afterwards.

The look on Cliff's face from 4:10 to 4:16 is awesome as well.

(mumble mumble WHO! WHA?! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!)

yeah that lip syncing is unreal. Yeesh..

As far as Sundin and the wings go, I heard rumblings that they've been looking to get him for a while actually. I have no idea who they would give up for him though, not as if Detroit really has anything they want to give up at the moment.

On the other hand, he is a Swede, so he's pretty much in I suppose.

*said leafs, meant wings.

I hate it too, but I think that's what's going to happen.

The management clearly overvalues the talent on the team, and telling them 'we're almost certainly not going to make the playoffs for at least 2 years' is not what they want to hear. With that being said, I don't trust the current regime at all to rebuild the team anyways, so it's a moot point.

Even though I don't like the Wings I would have to say it wouldn't be good for them to get Sundin unless they got him to sign an extension with him. I think the cost would be too high because it's not like they're young and can afford giving up young talent. I think Anaheim's clearly the front runner unless someone puts together an insane package for Sundin together. Well, maybe Vancouver too since Sundin wants to stay in Canada but if they give up Edler they're retarded.

I just think he's a bad fit for them. Dats and Zetterberg have Chemistry. Holmer just stands infront and they have Lidstrom/Rafalski on the point for their PP's, so I think he'd only get 2nd PP unit time. Mix that with 2nd line ES ice-time he gets and it doesn't make much sense. He likely wouldn't PK much there, and he only does 5on3s regularly for Toronto (5on4 he takes the face-offs and tries to get off immediately). Detroit seems to rely heavily on their top unit for scoring and I would assume that'll continue in the playoffs. I can see him being more effective on Vancouver or Anahiem. Possibly Calgary.

Also Detroit lost Matthias last season for Bertuzzi, who is now in the NHL. Kronwall is reportedly a target of the Leafs, but I think he is too important to their team right now. It would hurt them too much in the immediate future. Aside from him, there isn't a ton Detroit can offer, except the 28-30th pick.

Good points on their chemistry but that's the appeal of Sundin: He's proven that he doesn't necessarily need it to perform at all. Look at the crap he'd get thrown out there with back when TO was in the Playoffs (Cujo era). You put him with Samuelsson and Cleary and that's not a bad line. Not sure of the line combos in DET other than the main one, but Sundin + whatever plumbers they have makes a good second line. Plus the key for Detroit getting Sundin means that Anaheim isn't getting him and that may be worth it for them.

According to TSN, Philly is offering Carter and a first round pick.

I really hope not, Carter's on pace for at least 30 goals this year, his second 20+ campaign in three seasons, and I'd really discard almost any Flyer's 06-07 season. His line last night with Upshall and Knuble played incredibly. I'd rather not sacrifice his potential to get knocked out in the second round of the playoffs even if the Flyers are currently the second seed in the East.

I doubt the Carter deal will go through. Carter is an up and comer for Philly, probably will be a solid 30 goal getter, and is best friends with Mike Richards, it would just screw the whole team up if he was traded. Some time the best thing for a team to do (excluding the Leafs) is to make as little changes as possible, and let the team bond so to say, especially a solid playoff contender like Philly.

P.S. Mack, why do you hate the Wings so much??

So I'm assuming Clarkie's having a bit of a concussion relapse.

I am not sure Toronto would even take that. I heard the starting point for Vancouver is Edler and Kesler, so they are looking for alot.

They are hoping, and it's reported, he'll get more than Foppa.

He's going to be way more productive than Forsberg was.

Anyone who simply plays all the games is automatically more productive than Forsberg.

I'm a Leafs fan, not that there's a real rivalry but still, and the only Red Wings I could ever see myself rooting for were Vlad, Lidstrom and Yzerman. Piss on the rest of them.

Edit: I guess I'd have to add Shanny, even though I try not to count the years he was on them.
