ONE90s starting to breakdown

Recommended Posts

As you can see in the pictures, part of the skate is ripping apart from the stitching along the eyelets. How big of a problem is this, and should I start looking for new skates. If not, how much longer will these hold up.

It looks like your whole quarter panel is pulling away from the front back leather. I'd take those in and get them looked at. I don't know if they can re stitch them, but it can't be good for them to be falling apart like that.

Just curious, How long have you had them? How often do you skate? What is your size, height/weight? I have seen some power stride skaters go through the ONE90 over a course of time.

Looks like the cover to the texallium is worn out and the mesh is starting to peek through. If it continues, you'll loose stability as the tex. mesh will loose it's stiffness.

Might be able to just box-stitch the whole area, but I have no idea how it will effect things.

Bought them last summer. I play high school hockey, and skate 6 times a week (3 practices, 3 games) during the season. I didn't really skate much in the offseason. I'm 5'10" and weight about 180-185.

I know that these have taken a beating, but I'm disappointed to see these falling apart this much already.

that damage doesnt look too bad. if it gets any worse(especially in the near future) take them to an LHS and see if they can do some re-stitching, even a shoe repair shop should be able to do some sort of stitching repairs

I think the pictures belie how bad the damage is. The quarter panel seems to really be pulling away from the leather. If I were to put the skate on and pull on the loose area, I would be able to see my foot. Consequently, that area of the boot is much softer than it should be.

they're like scratches, like the outer layer kinda got shaved off. at least that's what mine are.

Yea, I have the same type of damage on my One90s. It looks as if someone has shaven a few layers off the skate, exposing the underlying fibers.

the biggest misconception a lot of people seem to have with higher-end skates, is that they think they're paying for DURABILITY. i don't care what anyone says... if you're paying 600+ on skates, you're paying for PERFORMANCE, not longevity.

the problems on your skates are similar to the many instances i've encountered with One90s. great, light skate, no doubt. but questionable durability, especially at your weight/ability level and frequency of play.

you MIGHT be able to get away with another couple months with repair, but you've gotta find someone with a strong enough needle to patch through the tech mesh. you're gonna be looking for a new pair, sooner than later.

sorry dude :(

Oh yeah, I have no misconceptions about the durability/performance. If you use a Ferrari as your daily driver, it'll break down in no time. It's the same with skates, unfortunately.

I'd really like to wait for next year's models to come out before buying new skates. Guess I'll just have to see how these continue to hold up.

oh wow.

then in all honesty, my friend, you've gotten quite a bit of life out of those skates. lol at your frequency of play, those should have kicked the bucket a while ago.

i congratulate you. lol

Those bright spots you guys have on your one90s are board burns. i have a few of them too

Not necessarily. In fact its not even a burn. Its where the texallium has be scraped off, from either other skates, or in my case most are from tight turns.

Last time I went to the LHS, there were several people there trying to buy sticks, get skates sharpened, etc. and only one employee, so I didn't bother asking (I doubt they could do much, anyway).

I think I'm just going to let these last a little longer then get new skates, especially because one skate has a loose tendon guard and the outsole seems to be coming a little loose.

I was talking about the bright spots on the quarter panels. If you're talking about the outsole then yes but the quarter does not have texallium in it.

Either way it shouldn't affect performance.
