Difference between R2 XN10, RL XN10, regular RedLite, etc?

Recommended Posts

I did a search because I was planning on getting a Z-bubble and noticed a number of threads talking about the XN10 sticks. So I did some more searching and saw many people saying their R2 XN10s and RL XN10s were the best sticks they've ever had, etc. Some of these threads though were going on 3 years old so I wasn't sure if one of those had replaced the other, or if they are still both available? also what is the difference between the R2 XN10 and RL XN10 - I think there was also some discussion/comparison to the regular RL. I'm looking to get a whippier shaft than my current 100 flex mission L-2 and 100 flex Synergy ST, both of which have bauer wood blades in them (P02 Pronger pattern, discontinued).

RL XN10= standard shaft

R2XN10= tapered shaft

Both are great shafts and are now becoming difficult to find in a variety (flex, availability, etc..)of different ways. Ebay would be the best bet.

I'm fortunate enough to have picked up at the right time 4 RL XN10 shafts. I have broken one of them in 10 months....but I will never trade them. If you can find the proper flex that you are looking for....you simply won't find a better shaft available. A true shame that TPS discontinued the XN10 material, but I understand why they did it.

According to their rep - they still use it, but just took the "XN10" designation off the shaft. I believe Chadd said they just use less of it. However, the rep I spoke to didn't mention that specifically.

Interesting....and not something that I had heard. I find it a touch hard to believe as I have both a R8 Response Lite shaft and a R6 Response Armor shaft and neither come remotely close to the weight or puck feel that I get with my Redlite XN10's.

It's simple - they've added more material to the stick. The originals were straight XN10, the Adrenaline came along and they added Kevlar and it was over from there.

other than weight, would a small amount of additional material really affect performance?

It did (at least for me) on the Adrenaline. The Adrenaline had decent puck feel, but came no where close to the performance of the XN10. The Response Lite (R8) is a nice stick in terms of balance, feel, and performance.

I have a R8 Response Lite shaft....and I can emphatically say that my Redlite XN10's outperform it in almost every aspect. The only thing that I think that is better about my R8 would be the durability. Puck feel, weight, balance (irrelevant due to plugs) shooting....all are better with my XN10's.

As I posted in the big TPS topic, no more XN10 in the sticks.

Man I wish I was on the ball when the Redlite Xn10s were going cheap months ago. Looking for one right now.

I concur with the many who love the XN10 shafts. I have a RedLite XN10 shaft. It has the smoothest flex load and release I've felt in a shaft. However, I now only use it as a backup and here's why. I'm a tall guy and the shaft is very short. Uncut, I'd guess it's 6 inches shorter than the Sher-Woods I've started using (taper Momentum Comps). And, because it's not only short but extremely light, I've had a hell of a time finding a blade/plug combo I can get happy with from a balance perspective. If you don't need a long shaft, though, it is a heck of a fun twig to shoot with.

Sounds like you should sell it to me :D just kidding

seriously though, thanks for the clarification. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for one and I'm going to snatch one up if I have the chance.

No one happens to know of one in a whip flex available for purchase right now, do they?

I've used both the XN10 Response and the Adrenaline, I think I might slightly prefer the Adrenaline (although it took a while to get accustomed to)... The XN10 is too darn light and feels insubstantial in my hands.

I hated how light the XN10 Response felt in my hands until I got used to it. Now I can't stand the release on other sticks I have.

Something that might be interesting and certainly disputable... I find that my 85 flex xn10s kick like a 100 flex cnt stealth. That's something to consider if you can live with the shaft shape and can use a higher flex stick.

Of course if comes with the more effort to shoot that comes with a higher flex or at least I feel like it takes more effort.

That's exactly the problem I had when trying other sticks. That said, I tend to lose a little accuracy with all the extra kick.
