Nike Air Speed Plus skates (pic)

Recommended Posts

I coach a PeeWee team and My co-head coach has a pair of really beat up old Nike's like the ones below. He can't find anything that fits him quite the same. He tried the Vector V10's , but kept bottoming out on tight turns. He's got 3 boys to equip so he's been making do with his beat up old Nike's. He's played a lot of elite hockey in his day, so he deserves newer skates.

I found these and I'm selling them to his boys for a buck apiece so they can give em to their pop. Can anyone tell me some background info I can tell the boys besides that Gretzky wore a pair similar to these?

These are the Air Speed Plus not the Air Accel Elite. What are the main differences? Anyone know? If he doesn't want them, should I take em back and sell them or tell the boys to hang on to them New in the box? will they go up in value or not so much?

Exterior material appears a bit different, no composite outsole from what I can see. Air Accel Elite from the pair I had was basically a very deep, much heavier Bauer 5000 boot with horrible moisture management characteristics, so these may be better if they handle water better and are like 3000s. They have tuuk+ on them so they aren't low end.

I would kill someone in front of their own mother for those.

I would kill someone in front of his own mother for wearing those.

But to each their own and I completely understand the inability to find skates that fit and work right.

Well hang tight Ashtonhutch. If they don't fit right or he has an issue with the white toe caps (his are black), then they'll be available.

Sz. 8.5 D or Euro 42.

I searched and didn't see anything. Is there anywhere I can find info on the NIke Air Accel Elite's? I thought I remembered seeing them in the sell items section, but couldn't find them.

I'm thinking they'd be nicer if they were black where they are white, and vice versa. Then again, I don't jock white skates like I know some MSHers do.

I agree, I dont like skates with that much white on them, even though I did like the CCM white Tacks back in the day when Guy Carbonneau wore them. I love the 8090 style skate and would like it even more if it were not so stiff.

I had a pair like that. Destroyed my arches. I missed a whole season because of those skates.

Here's a pic of a pair on ebay

Don't know if it's the exact same model but those are the skates Fedorov launched. I wore them for roller, incredibly comfy, no ankle support though and very heavy.

Looks like the black pair isa different model. There are a lot of differences I can see. First, there are holes in the toe cap of the black pair. Must be for air flow. Second, the side area where the toe cap meets the boot is reinforced with white leather on the white model. Third, The lining and the exterior seemed to be glued together, but not nylon piping around the edges on the black model.

The whit boots have plenty of stiffness. Almost more than I would prefer. I'm thinking about actually skating on them, though. That's a big decision...cuz technically then, they won't be NIB anymore. But they are just so damn white, as am I, and they are calling to me....skate me...skate me...white boy.

Oh, I may have forgotten to mention. The assistant I bought these for didn't want them, but he appreciated the offer. Oh well. Said they were too small, but I think he may not have liked the heaviness of them even though he's skating on a pair now.

I'm trying to decide what to do with them. Sell, Trade, keep, modify...whatever. Maybe I can make bookends out of them. They are pretty heavy by today's standards, Ha.

i have the Air Accel Lites.

i got them for free back in HS from a friend of my dad's who used to play a ton of beer league hockey (when he was younger.. he's only in his early 30s now).. around 2003.. then before college, i stopped playing hockey b/c i was SO busy with school and what not, plus i couldn't find a nice rink to play pick up hockey at during the school year. (they're all in the suburbs.. boo!-don't have a car to commute all the way out there to play)

i still use them every once in a while to go skate at the ponds or at the ice rinks in Millenium Park/Navy Pier here in Chicago. i don't mind them, i think they're nice skates, still, even if they're about almost 10 years old.. there's no other skates like them (color scheme and design) and you'll still turn heads. to me, they're not so heavy, but i picked up a pair of Vapor XXX/XXXX over break when i was home, at the pro shop at the rink i used to play at when i was younger (and hope to possibly play adult league (or at least pickup) in the coming months) and those are super super light.. but these Nikes still aren't so bad to me.. they're way beat up lol but i think skates look a little better broken in and worn. i'm definitely looking into a pair of Vapor XXX or XXXXs.

epstud.. didn't alexei kovalev wear/still does those white pro tacks as well?

Where do you skate? I played youth hockey in Chicago back when there was only one single Team Illinois team. That team was insane. Almost everyone of them drew a paycheck or at least a scholarship from hockey. Out of all the great TI players and teams over 25+ years, something like 7 or 8 guys have gotten to play in the big league. Four of them came from that first midget team, including Olczyk. Chicago has gotten a lot deeper in terms of hockey talent over the years.

i used to play house league hockey in Rockford (all throughout middle-high school)..i was gonna play travel (i'd heard that the teams wanted me and my brother to play..) but the time commitment thing was big on my parents and we didn't really have that much money back then to support traveling expenses and what not.) home of the Rockford Icemen coached by Tim Matilla.. who have won 10 straight state championships since 1996-1997.

adam14-i'm not sure.. i think he switched this season to the RBK pumps, b/c last year around January he was still wearing the white Tacks.. slowly switching over to Warrior.. but he did the full switch to Warrior this season and RBK.

notable names that have come out of Rockford in recent years.. Scott Ross (he played back around 02.. not sure where he is now).. and Troy Matilla (who was recently drafted by the NY Islanders) who had a ridiculous 140 goals and 74 assists (214 total points) in 61 games in the 04-05 season.. he's currently playing juniors with the Tri City Storm in the USHL.

i remember watching ridiculous games between Rockford Icemen and Chicago Flames back in the day.. those games were complete shit shows lol penalty after penalty.. pure hatred between the teams.

Where did you get those??

One of the Dad's of the kids I coach asked me about the third pair of skates I wore in the same week, and I told him I had a fetish for classic or historically significant skates. He said he didn't know there was such skates and wanted to know who decided what the classics are? I told him jokingly) I decided such things.

So he told me he had these from when he planned on learning to skate. Never happened. So I took them off his hands like orphans with the promise they would one day see some real ice.

Those skates are freakin' HOT.

I guess you need to be at least over the age of 30 to appreciate how sexy those things are (or were).

LOL. Hilarious. The only problem is I'm too old to have puck bunnies anymore, unless you count Hockey MILF's, and it would take the MILF of all MILF's to take that risk in a community property state....LOL. never thought of skates as sexy, but you're right.
