Downie

The Admirals are going to appeal this ruling. I would like to see the video of this because i really cannot see him deliberately slashing a linesmen if his team is appealing it, so it really can't be as bad as it sounds.

I saw it on NHL live this afternoon, it was obvious and it was intentional. Downie was yelling at the linesman prior to the incident blaming him and the other officials for the loss. The faceoff was following an awarded goal, as someone tackled a guy from behind to prevent him from putting it into the empty net. Norfolk Put out Downie, Brookbank and Konopka for the faceoff with a few seconds on the clock. In the NHL that would be a fine and suspension for the coach.

What's really weird is that in all the games he's played for the Lightning he's been very level-headed and just worked his ass off. If he really did stoop down to this level again(didn't see the video) this kid needs to see a counselor or something. The kid can play and he can play cleanly, hopefully he can control himself better or it's a huge waste of a quality hockey player.

Wish I found this thread earlier. But G-D do I hate this clown. I cant say he is a bad hockey player, because his past incidents have led to me not even paying attention to his game but rather what hes gonna pull next.

From my standpoint, from what Ive seen, this guy had his shot and blew it. Time after time again, he does some stupid stunt, how many suspensions is it going to take?

Jail or involuntary commission to a psychological ward seem appropriate. This guy for far too long has taken ice from other men who have devoted their lives to the sport. Downie and now his coach, Norfolk, have simply added to the Tampa organization's history of embarrassment. Seems they can do no right since winning the Cup.

The Norfolk coach needs his head examined as well. From the sounds of it, to even put Downie on the ice in that situation is beyond stupid.

Not to excuse what Downie did at all, I've previously defended him on the McAmmond hit, he's obviously an idiot.

It's funny how hard he struggles to justify Downie's actions

Downie and two other guys not known for their skill

Holy shit........ and the sad part is at least one wretched little shit with an attitude problem is going to see him do that. It's going to plant the idea in his/her head and you will see this again.

I most sincerely hope I am mistaken.

He was definitely out of control on the faceoff, but did he intentionally slash the ref? I dont know.......

It would be nice to know they at least interviewed him on it, but they didn't.

When you have been suspended that many times already, you lose benefit of the doubt.

I've never seen someone try to win a center-ice faceoff THAT HARD.

Totally intended to hit the referee - not even a question.

Wow, and to think I stood up for Downie in the past.

What a moron. <_<

It's ok, don't beat yourself up over it. ;)

there is the vid

It is hard to tell if he was just going for the puck or intentionally trying to slash the linesmen, but due to the amount of force put into it i can see why they called it, and even if it was a accident Downie will not get a break in this situation due to his past.

The amount of force put into it is EXACTLY how you can tell it wasn't an accident.

When he was a Flyer, there was a certain excitement factor in seeing just what Steve would do next, but for all the glimpses of legitimate NHL talent, he will perpetually be getting in his own way. There's no point in speculating exactly where this behavior arises from, but I absolutely think some form of psychotherapy would benefit him and everyone else involved, not just from a hockey perspective. On the mentally-imbalanced scale, I'd put him and TO at the same level.

I'm no fan of T.O., but at least he doesn't try to maim opposing players and officials every game.

Odd, you'd think with all the maiming he'd have more penalty mins in the 30 games he played for the Lightning where he seemed very in control of himself.
