Visor for Sweaty Bastard

Recommended Posts

I tried searching for similar situations....but to little to no avail. I am currently using a NBH 8500 with the oval wire cage and would like to change over to a visor of some kind. Issue is that I sweat, A LOT!! I had used an Itech half visor before and fogged it up religiously. I would like to give the visor another shot, and am interested in the Oakley straight cut visors. My main question is does the Pro Straight with vents assist in cutting down fogging, or does the typical air gap at the top of a standard Pro Straight, or Pro Straight small allow for enough forced air over the backside of the shield to cut down on fogging? Based on this and my propensity for sweating, which of these visors would you recommend? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I too am a bit of a heavy sweater and am very warm blooded, and fogging has Always been an issue. That is until I got the Itech HS22 (pro wave). I haven't tried the straight cut 22, but the pro wave has that bell curve on the top that allows plenty of air in to keep it fog free. The ONLY time I've had it fog up on me was Late in the season during almost Summer type weather outside, and it was extremely humid for an ice rink, and just after I got on the bench. Once I got back on the ice, it cleared right up. I'm sure you bring a towel with you on the bench due to your heavy perspiration, just keep it handy to wipe away a few sweat and spit drops from the visor every now and again. I also rarely use any fog solution, only to clean any dried sweat before a game.

I sweat (and steam) a whole lot and never had any trouble with oakley aviator or straights. They do sell anti-fog spray for them as well, just use it to clean the visor after a game or when you're putting your stuff away.

I had the opposite experience as Patrick, the itechs always fogged up on me, tried a pro wave one time when the shop was out of aviators. When they got another shipment of oakleys I immediately took the pro wave off, it's still sitting somewhere in the equipment room. Thing would fog up in 10 minutes for me.

Lol that just doesn't make any sense at all... Weird.

I didn't have AFR solution with the oakley, so could only use hot water (otherwise they would blurr), which probably was part of my fogging problems.

But with the Itech I can use pretty much anything.

What about in the Oakley lineup? Pros and cons for my situation with the Oakley Pro Straight cut, and the Pro with vents and the forehead mount?

Not much difference between any of them aside from the mounting. The aviator and straight are almost identical just basically your preference on visually if you like the straight or the wave from the aviator. The vent offers maybe a little more protection because it is a little wider and the mounting is a little different but there isn't much difference between the 3 of them. One nice thing about the forehead mount is that you can flip it up on the bench and wipe your face off, which since you sweat alot you might enjoy quite a bit. :)

I use the Pro Aviator, and the only time that I have fogging issues are after I get in the locker room when i'm done skating. I tilt it up a little bit to keep the perspiration from getting on it. The only time I have a problem with sweat is when my long ass hair gets in my field of vision, then some sweat accumulates at the end of it. Other than the wet hair, I have never had any problems with this visor. I highly recommend it.

I sweat alot and use the Oakley small straight with no fogging issues at all, the two things I use to help out are cleaning it with AFR before every use and I wear an under armour heat cap under the helmet that really helps keep me cool and the sweat a non-issue.

When I was wearing the Oakley Modified Aviator I used the AFR before every game and had no issues with fogging. I'm wearing an Itech Aviator now and clean that with one of the sprays before each game and again I have no problems with fog.

Note: I sweat thinking about warm weather.

You and I are in the same boat there. For wipping the visors is a regular cotton hand towel ok, or one of the chamois that they sell at various online retailers?

Also....do you wear any type of sweat band or skull cap to keep the sweat either contained, or flowing away from your eyes?

I have crazy curly out of control hair and I wear a skullcap to keep it (and the sweat) out of my eyes.

I steam a lot (I think its probably because i wear long sleeved UA shirts all the time) and I switched to a cage since wearing the fishbowl was useless for me.

Same for me. I tried 2 different visors and a even one that was vented to prevent steam up. None of them worked for me. If it wasn't the fog, it was my fat sweaty forehead splashing sweat on it.. Annoying as hell.

As everyone else has stated I sweat a lot. I wear a short sleeved RBK underarmor type things and I am able to ring it out at the end of every skate. I have an oakley straight cut. Love it no fogging issues except when I'm on the bench and it touches my head. I don't use the AFR spray or anything. If its dirty a little water on a hand towel. And yes one of those soft hand towels work just fine. Don't go blowing money on those chamois.

I use an Itech cloth to rub in the spray and wipe the visor after games. I don't wear a sweat band or skull cap, I just wipe my face with my jersey between shifts. Seems to do the trick.

My name is Saba and I am a heavy sweater as well. For me it was not fogging it was every time my lid moved around all the sweat accumulating in the padding would take a piss on my visor. Think getting rubbed on the boards in front of the net, lifiting the lid on the bench etc...To rub salt in a wound my towel on the bench gets wet from my perspiration and then wiping the visor leaves nothing but a nice wet streak

I have gone back to the cage but its going to be a challenge for inline, ice I think not so much...

I use a UA long sleeve for ice, sleeveless for roller, and a Halo headband

UA Natural fit short sleave, skull cap (even with short hair) and I have a rag on the bench.
