Game Preperation

Recommended Posts

First and foremost, make sure I don't have a 50 $ bill with me.

Drink a redbull on the ride to the rink, while listening to really hard-core tunes.

Dress from the waist down (about 20 minutes early) so I can watch others play while I stretch.

That's about it for me.

take a nap till 2 hours before

eat a snack

pack my gear

drink apple juice on the way to the rink (45 min drive)

get dressed right-left

EDIT: i get out early each day because i take 2 AP classes and thats all the credit i need... not because im retarded or anything

Go to the bathroom fire off some nuckle children, na just kidding. My wife dont get the pre game rituals, but I have to get to the rink an hour early. Dress from the waist down, and just hang out for a while. Tape sticks etc.. then complete dressing, get focused and go play. Thats about it, pretty simple. I did read of a goalie who wouldnt walk past a garbage can before a game because he would play like garbage. Talk about superstitions.

1. Try to get to the rink nice an early.

2. Drink a bottle of Gatorade.

3. Dress lower half.

4. Tape right wrist (gotta kind carpel tunnel thing starting I think)

5. Dress upper half.

6. Wait...

I ALWAYS wear a hat to the rink, and I leave it on until I am ready to put my shoulders on. That's pretty much it for superstitions.

Before I leave, I brush my teeth. My only real quirk, I like to have fresh, clean teeth. Don't know why.

I'll drink juice on the way to the rink.

Then get dressed and hit the ice.

I don't like getting to the rink early, for whatever reason. I like to get there, put my stuff on, and hit the ice for warmups. But my roommate wants to get there way early, so I'm usually sitting in the locker room with nothing to do, then start thinking about the game too much, and play like crap.

1. Rink close to 2 hours 15 minutes early, with 3 or 4 gatorades, somne apples and oranges. I usually watch the games before us or tape my stick/hang up gear

Change up into warm up gear close to an hour 30 before on ice warm up.

Warm up for our warm up, then lengthy 30 to 45 minute warm up, then usually a hockey ball or soccer ball/maybe baseball glove depending wear we are for a bit, adn then get ready, eat an apple, warm up, flood, gametime.

Too add onto this I usually drink a ton of water, not to the extremes of one player on our team who usually pees around 6 or times within 4 hours of the game. But he says when he pee's 6 times he gets a trick which usually means atleast a point for me. I might listen to my ipod, i might not. depends on how last game went.

I'm also one of the most superstitious kids on our team, I realised i consistiantly play good when i wear my Mizuno vball socks, so i've worn them and not washde them for quite some time, and of course leave the rink with no socks on

My coach would rip off my balls if i ever wore a hat to the rink.

thats lucky, I always wore hats previously before i got a coach that made me stop, then i leanred to actually do stuff with my hair

I'm not playing anywhere that would require a dress code, or any degree of professionalism for that matter...*L*

always tape my sticks at home before an ice time, weather it be a practice or a game. But before i freshly tape my stick i screw around with a inline puck in my basement.

-Pack my gear

-Get ride to the rink about 45 mins to an hour early.

-Pic a corner of the dressing room. theres usually one left for me, when there isnt i just move one of my teammates gear.

-usulaly catch the remnants of the game before ours

-Try not to think about anything hockey related at all

-Rag on my assistant coach for a while

-Always the last person to begin getting dressed and try to be the last finished dressing.

-Also no one touches my sticks without getting a verbal beating(sometimes physical) within this time period.

- Also i switch sticks halfway through the game, unless i've been forced to lend my other stick out.

- Warmups i do our normal circles. Then strech with the team. Do our first drill which is just skate with puck to the offside dot sharp turn back into our end and take a shot on the goalie.

-90% of the time ill skip the horse shoe and go strech some more over by the forward gate. Come back for 2 on 1's and do a few of those. then strech some more.

Day Before Prep

-Get skates sharpened and skate on them for a practice before I have to use them for a game

-Tape game stick (not back up unless it needs it) and wax it the night before because bringing tape and wax to the rink means it will be gone in 10 minutes

Game Day Prep

-Eat something

-Ride the stationary bike for 15 minutes and listen to music

-Shower

-Pack my bag (the exact same way every time)

-Put on dress clothes and drive to the rink 1 hour and 45 mins-2 hours before the game

-Pass with one of my teammates

-Go for a run and stretch with a couple teammates

-Jump-rope for 5 minutes or so

-Stretch with the team

-Get dressed and play

so you'll beat someone if your sticks are touched in the locker room before the game starts while you're dressing BUT you'll allow someone to use one of your sticks if they have to? lol

sometimes i wont have a choice. most of our players use really short sticks and only bring one. I allways have two. if someone breaks a twig and shoots the same way i do, Im kinda obliged to lend out my remaining stick. I believe that everyone should bring atleast two sticks to every game.

Try to limit my beer intake to a 6-pack or less, dump/piss. Shoot a puck at the biggest guy on the opposing team in warm ups, nothing gets the blood flowing like knowing it is going to be a battle.

Just new this year....

No food 4 hours before the game.

Pre-game skate: game court/inlines and sky practice puck

if there's time, bounce a tennis ball in the room at the rink.

few sips of coffee for later games.

Pre game meal 4 hours before game. Cold shower before leaving for rink. 1/2 bottle of Powerade with 1 or 2 scoops of Eas Betagen, 1 scoop EAS Endurathon. Drink that and bottle of water while driving. 1 piece of gum when leaving car, mouth feels a lot cleaner. Get dressed left side first on everything. If I have a bad game blame my equipment or teammates.
