if you look at his back foot, you can see the last eyelet that he uses and the next one he skips, looks to be at least 2 that he skips. possibly 3, i havent seen the skates enough to know where the eyelets are etc?

im thinking he leaves the last two eyelets. but this pictures ridiculous, his stride's about a foot long it may be hes just quickly accelerating or something in this pic, but that looks like an awful short stride to me

Well I'm sure this isn't his full stride or anything. He could've been just making his way back to the bench for a change or something.

A shot like this would indicate he leaves the top two (atleast one) eyelets unused.

But here you can see he's using them all. So it seems as if he's just not cranking the laces down hard.

Is it me, or do those laces look different? Kinda like circular-type 'rope laces' that running shoes come with..... it may just be my eyes going batty on me.

people that can skate with loose skates have perfect feet so there foot is balanced in a skate.... In my case I need them tied up pretty good since my arches are collapsed

True, forward flex can be overrated.

our findings best I can describe, is there needs to be enough range of movement to generate a full compression stroke of the ankle- against the tongue of the boot (compressing the boot materials), force being transmitted to the forward portion of the blade, then rebound. This is what generates your power off the line.

If you are too locked up, you can apply force but not the full stroke. If you are too loose, you have full range of movement but no force being generated as the ankle compresses down.

This is why a carbon fiber boot chassis is sweet along with an EVA inside. Together they store energy and rebound better than most materials.

Most skates are made of soft plastic and other textiles where are kinda dead.

There are other considerations for range of motion, because the ankle is like a joystick.

With the CCM Lace Locks, maybe he has the laces for the lower eyelets really tightly and the upper eyelets laced really loosley.

i like them loose also. i skate better and have more control, i leave the top eyelete undone and just tied them. it all about your skating position.
