10 Year Old/Triple Hurricane

More extravagant version of what Getzlaf gaffed on and a 9-year-old succeeded on, in the All-Star game. I'm starting to wonder just how not-difficult that move really is.

Does anyone else think that all this attention to trick shots is breeding a generation of players that will have great exhibition moves, and shootout dangles, but won't have "in game" skills/fundamentals. And, give it 10-15 years and every game is going to look like an ASG.

Think about the guys that do Long Drive comps. They can hit a golf ball close to 400 feet. But, can they chip? can they putt? can they play an actual round of golf?

I kinda fear for the future of this spot at times.

Then again, I don't have those crazy skillz...so, maybe it's just jealousy talking.

I really do agree.

As a closet NBA fan, I know that it has long since happened to pro basketball, where a lot of the show boaters are considered the premier players, and the guys who sit back and play the game, and play smart are given far less face time.

I also speak as a disgruntled Pistons fan, where we have 7 guys that can play as a team and win championships, but we don't have a Kobe or a LeBron, so the Pistons are never given the proper credit. I hope to god it doesn't happen to hockey, but you're right, it could very well be going in that direction.

It won't be exactly like the NBA simply because a guy like Crosby, Ovey, etc. can't get the same percentage of playing time as a LeBron, Kobe, etc.

I have a buddy that I play with that has this exact problem. He loves to watch these videos on the net, loves to work constantly on his stickhandling, etc.. But once we get him into a game, he is a huge liability. He can't go full speed and do any of his stickhandling, and even if he was at full speed, he is probably our slowest skater on the team. It causes major friction with guys on the bench because we can see what is happening when he gets the puck in a little space.

Now, when we go to a shootout (in our league if you tie at the end of regulation you go straight to a 3 man shootout) he is clutch because he rarely misses, but the simple fundamental of the give and go or a smart outlet pass or even just cycling thru the middle for an outlet pass from a D is lost on him at times because of his focus on this fancy stickhandling thing.

Tyler is a good guy too. Played on a team with him for a bit, and against him a whole bunch.

cj, you in California? A guy I used to play with back in the day married Svoboda's sister, I believe.

I am in CA, nor cal though. Used to play for the Bauer Mavericks around 2000. Played against Sterling and gauthier a lot, svoboda was with them on suregrip. And then I just saw svoboda again recently in PIHA. Hadnt played in a while, but still very good.

Not jealousy. It's just getting old. I think the puck on the stick stuff is boring. Especially, the Robbie whats his bucket stick waving all over the place goal. The Michigan gets a little more respect because it was game time. The Datsyuk "fade", however... oh baby. Now that is skill.

There's an off ice puck I was looking at and the video they pointed to was some kid just doing the puck sweep between the legs over and over again or juggling the puck. There was no real footage of how the puck actually worked off ice. Pointless.

I was all excited for the shootout when it was first announced a few years ago, but now I wish it would just go away. I say 4 on 4 then 3 on 3 until there is a winner. Not ties. No OT loss point. I think that sucks, too. You should never get awarded something for losing no matter what period and format you lost.

Ah, I see. Noah Clarke may have been on that SureGrip team you played. Never met Gauthier but I had the chance to talk to his Dad for an hour or so during the Kings prospect camp in September and he was a really nice guy.

I think people will eventually just get burned out on this stuff, because it has no in-game application, and is boring after the millionth time. It's just tricks to waste time, and doesn't amount to anything except a you-tube clip. You can throwdown hard in basketball and it looks cool no matter what, and gets you two points. If you try this stuff in a hockey game you'll just get poke checked and look silly at best, or laid out and hurt at worst. Or you'll score against a team who's not as good as you, and you're a choad.

Every time you practice picking the puck up between your legs, you're not practicing your shot.

Getzlaf had thoudand of people expecting an amazing sick dangel from him... just a bit of pressure.. that kid had his mom and a couple friends.. no where near as much pressure
