Low Profile Shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

So im looking into getting some new shoulder pads seeing as how i am about to be getting back into the contact hockey ranks. My sherwood 5030s have done me well in beer league, but I am looking to upgrade a little. Im hoping someone can point me in the direction of some of the lower profile pads out there. I hate looking like a linebacker out on the ice (then the guys KNOW im going to ruin their day...I prefer the element of suprise). Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Take a look at the ITECH 655/955 shoulders. They have low profile caps, and great back and rib cage protection.

Thanks nico, thats kinda what im looking for. Im cool with small caps on the shoulders, but i really need to get more rib and back coverage. thats a great suggestion. any idea how the mobility is? thats the one thing i really dont want to have to sacrifice too much of.

I was looking at the mission fuel 75, seems similar to the itech. anyone agree? (I know they are the same company, maybe they borrowed some design ideas?)

Easton classics, more protection that the sherwoods, but I like them even better. I believe the bauer classics are comparable. If you are looking for something that is low prfile and good for full check, the lightspeeds and the RBK 6ks.

I think you'll find the Itechs to have more mobility than the Mission 75s. The Itechs have the "Flex chest," so the protective panels on each side of the sternum panel, contract and expand as you move. Simple, but a nice feature.

Fellow beer-leaguer here. I bought some Easton S5's when my old low-profile Sher Wood's fell apart, and they're a good combo of light weight and protection. They're on closeout at a lot of places, too.

I currently have the Fuel 85's and they are great shoulder pads. They are pretty low profile compared to a lot of the pads out there (at least my size small shoulder pads are) They offer great rib and back coverage, I wear a ONE90 girdle and there is no open space between my pants and pads. I don't know about the Fuel 75's but the 85's also have that little "ab protector" thing that you can take off depending on how high up or how high you wear your pants. I definitely recommend the 85's and I'm sure the 75's are pretty much the same thing from the looks.

hey bud go to www.thehockeyshop.com, and look in their shoulder pad section for easton classics. they are like the sherwood pads but with the larger eaton shoulder caps. Only $9.99 Verrrrrry nice. If you cant find them there look in the specials section.

thanks for the help fellas. those easton classics look nice, but the 15 bucks shipping pretty much kills that sale price. the caps look HUGE also (anyone want to confirm that for me?) I think the lower end RBK or the itechs seem pretty good. keep up the suggestions, im looking into all of them. I am interested in those easton s5's, however I need to know how well they lay down...they look like they might sit up high at the neck.

I also back the S5's. The 5030's and the S5 are the most popular pads we sell to beer leaguers at any level.

thanks guys, i think you are swaying me towards the S5's. They seem pretty sweet. We have them in my store in the JR size, and they do look nice...i never really gave them much thought however.

i'm looking for the same type of pad and from what i've seen, it's come down to the s5 and rbk 4/6k for the best mix of protection/price/profile (the 3 p's? :D )

if you want low profile without the linebacker look, i recommend the vector series shoulder pads. I own a set of the vector 4.0s and I'd say they're great for no-contact. I recently looked at the higher end model vector 8's and they definitely seem like they're up to the task of taking hits and pucks if you do.

I wear Easton S5 currently and would recommend them for any beer leaguers. Very protective and on the lighter side. Shoulder caps can be slightly smaller/lower profile but overall not so bad. Wish there was a little more velcro to get it real snug.

About the Vector shoulders, I've only tried them on at the store but the spine on the 8's or 10's (don't remember) is weird to me... Too much hard plastic for my taste and IIRC the shoulder caps (rather low profil btw) tilt or are built slanted(?) and that felt weird too. Maybe it's just me.

So, yes, I do like the S5's and I believe they're on sale at most places.

I'm wearing 5030's but considering a more protective pad. No spine/back protection and I've taken a couple pucks to the abs and it hurts. I'll check out the S5's, thanks for the heads up.

I've found over the years that no-check does not mean no contact. Some of the games in my league get pretty chippy, like our last one where 4 guys got matches, including our goalie...

Does anybody have any experience with the Easton Stealth S9 vs. the S5? It appears that they both have the same cut/fit, only the S9's have a few more bells and whistles (namely the Bio-Dry liner and beter ventilation).

there is more protection in the spine, sternum, and clavicle...
