roadrunner 12 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I used to play ice at Weston Lions, just a men's league...and at double rinks nin Vaughan. But now I'm only playing ball hockey. I think I'm stopping that soon. I'm looking for a roller hockey league. Know of any good one's?

Jordan 13 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Last year I played for 2 teams in the Men's league out of Rinx at Dufferin and Lawrence. This year, I spend too much time driving my kid to his games and practices, so I am just going to a couple of skates with some buds when I can make it.Skated with some really strong players in the summer at Forest Hill arena.Always looking ofr a skate if you know of anyone looking for extra players. althoma1 575 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Winter Ice - Men's league through the ASHL out of the Victoria Park rink. The rooms are small, the ice varies from average to terrible and the pads are also small. You know you're playing in a high class facility when it's under a buffet :). The only reason my team plays there is it's convenient for most of us (it's a 10 minute drive up the DVP for me), but we're seriously considering switching to another rink next year.Winter Pickup - Fenside arena (near York Mills and the DVP). A great group of guys come out to this, the ice is good, the rooms are nice and big and the guy who runs the rink usually gives us a good 10 minutes of extra time. This location is even closer to me - I wish our regular mens league was played out of Fenside, but they don't run adult leagues. Spring/Summer Roller Hockey - York Inline out of Rosemount CC in Thornhill and Centennial in North York. This league is a bit of a drive for me, compared to the league I used to play out of (Toronto Inline out of Oriole arena or Pleasantview), but they charge the same price for playing on Sport Court that the other league charges for playing on cement. The Greater Toronto Inline League also runs games out of Centennial, but they charge more than York Inline.Summer Pickup - Angus Glen CC in Markham. A bit of a drive, but not that bad since it's at 11pm and the traffic is usually pretty good at that time. The ice is excellent, the rooms are a good size and the facility is nice and new. We usually get a few minutes of extra time there as well. I wish I could always play on ice that good...I can only imagine what it's like in the winter if it's that nice in the summer. Summer Ice - Vic Park last year, but hopefully the team will decide to switch to another rink this year. I'd rather spend a bit more time driving to play at a better facility. I know I could sign up on my own somewhere else, but like the team I'm playing with so will only move if everyone agrees to it.

althoma1 575 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Jordan Posted Today, 09:42 AM Last year I played for 2 teams in the Men's league out of Rinx at Dufferin and Lawrence. I played out of the rinks one summer several years ago...I remember the benches on the one pad. They were really cramped if you had a full team show up...don't know if they've improved the situation since then. It'd be fine for small kids, but for adults it's tough if you have more than 8 guys on the bench. I'm looking for a roller hockey league. Know of any good one's?York Inline is a pretty good value in comparison to other leagues in the GTA, however; I found last year the schedule wasn't really ever final and a lot of games were moved around at the last minute which caused some people to completely miss some games or show up at the wrong time. Scheduling in advance and sticking to the schedule is one thing that needs to be improved, but you do get to play on sport court with a roller puck for the price you'd pay to play wih a ball on cement in some other leagues. mrusse01 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Play ASHL at icesports in Scarborough (markham and steeles) and in the Double Blue league out of St. Mike's which can be a pretty decent skate from time to time. In the summer I play a little pick up out in Nobleton, but I live downtown now so it is tough to get up there sometimes. Roller-wise I play Greater Toronto Indoor (GTI) out of Herbert Carnagie or whatever at Finch/Dufferin. Played in the league for about 5 years, pretty good time. Always looking for extra skates in the summer especially though
cbj05 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 I'm in Mississauga, but it's close enough.Played in the MHL and GTHL for the last couple years, but I sick of the politics and don't want to deal with that crap anymore.Oakville Icesports ASHL.Erin Mills Twin Rinks Wednesday nights, just a bunch of guys out for shinny.Prince of Wales Outdoor Rink Saturday mornings, I rent the ice and bring my younger brothers and a few friends.Summer pickup at Meadowvale 4Rinks. Terrible facility, but it keeps me on the ice.I'm also looking to start playing roller. Anywhere good in Mississauga/Etobicoke/Oakville?

Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Sure, I'm always up for some icetime - I've even got another goalie I can probably bring along.Maybe Ngo can hook us up with some cheap ice. :)Plat, I play at the Varsity too. What team are you on? (mine should be obvious) Curiously, I also played at CanLan Etobicoke a bit in the summer - I was there with another goalie (same guy), both of us in blue/white gear. I also used to play a fair bit at the Vic Park IceSports (the pretty good Tuesday/Thursday afternoon game), but I haven't been recently.
bubber27 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 ASHL Oakville. Monday nights, we're The Ploogers. We play C2 against Ron Maclean's team, Coyotes. Good skater with bricklayer's hands. cbj05, what night you play?True North Tuesday nights, D level, i go out for the skate. Good group of guys though.Sundays at Westwood in this little invite only league. Good hockey, 3 running 20's, so with a short bench it's a lot of hockey.Used to play ball hockey, United and Peel league out of Mississauga / Brampton. Tier 2 Mississauga Blackhawks. Gave that up two years ago, knees and back were startin to scream no more after all the pounding on the concrete, and the whole bunch of us were older and too hurt. Wasn't worth it anymore. All the teams that are playing Tier 1 now in and around the GTA, we used to play and beat on a regular basis, Ruff Ryders, Young Guns, Canucks, Whalers, etc etc.....And set up the ice time, i'll be there. If we need goalies, i can get two.Phil
Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Don't bring any goalies, man - if I have to skate out, I'll drag the calibre of the game down to truly unspeakable levels. As one Highburian to another, spare us both the ignominy. :)

I think we got whipped by you guys for the first half of the season and will probably get whipped again. I actually borrowed a helmet/cage from a guy on ur team my first game cause i didnt realize we couldnt use visors. He was clutch. Last game u guys were on before us and we got hammered by the meds 8-0 right after. unfortunately the SMC Div 1 contact team takes our best players and we're stuck with a 16 man roster who cant develop line chemistry or positional play.last summer i played at ice sports etobicoke with some guys from the div 2 engineering team (obviously they had to name the team skule) but this yr im starting my own team for Div C ASHL. Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Ahh yes, I remember the cage borrowing incident. Gad that worked out for you.Meds are really, really good this year. They beat us 1-0 our first game, but we got brutally outplayed - outshot about 43-4 (not a typo, and I do count). Last year they had a goalie who could barely hold his stick, so they were really hamstrung into playing super-anal D. I don't know what the hell was going on there. Their guy this year is still weak, but you can't score from outside the blueline any more.Frankly, I can't believe the Contact league is that much better - I've watched a few games, and aside from the goonery, half the teams in Div.1 NC would rip that league apart. You should just get your guys to come together to the afternoon pickup at the Varsity: that's how Trin built the team that owned the league the last two years. Platypus 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 our goalie is swiss cheese but i give him credit cause theres no d and the ones that are there are screening him. SMC contact needed an extra guy so i went in against PHY Ed and it was a huge difference from NC. but i got laid out my first shift and never fully recovered for another 2 weeks. I took a suicide pass, getting decked as soon as i accepted/turned my head to move forward. ive came religiously to the fri aft pickup first term but became discouraged by having NO GOALIES and massive benches. parking $ and a game later in the afternoon also played a small roll
cbj05 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 cbj05, what night you play?Sunday Night D. Not the greatest hockey ever, but I'm young, and the friends I play with aren't very good. And I'm down for some icetime.

I've been trying to come with the other goalie from Law, but we keep getting delayed. I think I've made it once this year. It sucks that nobody else is picking up the slack. That used to be an OK skate, especially if teams sent little 'units' of 3-5 guys.
