Broke my one90 Stick tonight...

Recommended Posts

Basically, went into to dig for a puck, their guy on my side, hit my stick, it went into a slot in between two board panels and snapped. It is hanging on by the carbon threads and just, but unusable. Is it possible to call Nike Bauer and either get it fixed or replaced? Does somebody have their number because I couldn't find it on the site.

Is it still under warranty? If not, they won't care. You can either replace the blade yourself or try a third party stick fix service. Search around for your options.

Even if it was less than 30 days it shouldn't be replaced. It was obviously not a manufactuing defect, just bad luck.

would they really know if you just said you broke it?

Just saying that if it was outside warranty they wouldn't care a bit about it. Whether or not you seek a replacement for a broken stick is up to you, and it's up to NBH if they'll replace it.

id send it in, they usually replace anything, as long it doesent look like you torched it with overheating or a break that looks like it was done on purpose... you have nothing to loose by just calling, getting an RA and sending it in

Whether or not you can get a replacement doesn't mean you should, even though that won't mean two nickels to most people. The warranty's terms are clearly displayed on the stick that it has to be a defect and not contact with a stick, skate, or boards, etc. Some situations (stick in the boards) will break ANY stick and that is not the company's fault. It's your fault and things like that happen just because of the nature of the game. That is a risk you accept when you pay $200 for a stick. I understand that there is a feeling of remorse after you see your shiny new one piece suddenly become a two piece but that isn't the responisibilty of the manufacter to give you a mulligan. Every time someone sends a stick in that shouldn't be covered under the warranty it ultimately drives up the price of the sticks. You think that the company just eats the loss? They pass it along to the dealers, who in turn, pass it along to you.

unfotunately they are usually willing to send someone a new stick to shut them up rather than get bad word of mouth

i dont get what part of "went into a crack in the boards and broke" is Bauers fault

I know that they are wanting to keep their customers and make them return but it should be the responsibilty of the customer to know what is right and accept the loss. But as I said - it never happens.

That's the problem, very few morals with today's crowd. Last week I had a guy ask me how to break a stick so he could send it in for replacement. Seems his kid didn't like the lie. My wife chewed him out in the store, especially for encouraging this right in front of his 10yo. Sad. I wish the manufacturers would just do away with warranties.

i would say send it in. NB is very laid back with their warranties it seems.

That's not the point. We've already agreed that he probably could get a replacement. As a shop employee though you disappoint me with comments like that. It'll be very hard to earn some respect around here with that attitude.

Does anyone have any idea how much providing warranties adds to the price of a stick? And if there wasn't a warranty, would one-pieces be a harder sell for retailers or would the target market for them just not care ?

I'm totally in favor of getting rid of warranties if it knocks 35% off the price... since I'm an inline player, it takes a long time for most sticks to wear down and breakage is rare. I think a lot of other's would agree with me.

Or maybe make the warranty optional, $129 for a warranty stick, $99 for no warranty. It's the same as pro stock anyway, except there would be the same curves as retail and we wouldn't have to worry about getting ripped off by re-paint jobs.

I too agree just wish they would do away with warranty's. In all seriousness out of all the sticks I've had and have had broken or have broke myself in a game (in which I in fact actually didn't send it in), there was maybe one time where it was in the warranty period. I just really don't think the 30 day is worth how much extra is added to the price of a stick.

I'd rather pay less for a stick and have to buy another new one for cheaper without the warranty than break a stick after the warranty expires and have to buy another stick for a higher premium.

And to the OP, too many people abuse the system and from the looks of it besides a select few, a lot of people on here have a good set of morals to the point where it is ridiculous when people advocate fraudulent activity. I personally wouldn't send it in and like others have said, its the chance you take and price you pay when dealing with high performance, high priced sticks.

Just look at pro stock pricing.

I can think of a number of a reasons why pro stocks might be cheaper, with the lack of warranty being just one of them.

As a person who gets tired of his sticks before he breaks them, I would be happy if companies did away with warranties - if they pass along the savings, and if those savings were reasonably large. My guess is that they wouldn't - because I doubt that the segment of the market that will drop $300 on a one-piece is either price conscious or warranty conscious - but maybe I'm just cynical.

I've only had one stick break on me in the warranty period, and it was the first time I used it, just took a few shots and it snapped. Didn't care much since it was a clearance item.

But if I could get a tapered shaft for $70 without a warranty versus $100 with, I'd probably roll the dice. Don't know about a one piece...I wouldn't spend $180 on a stick, but that's an expensive paperweight if it snaps after one game.

It would be nice to have an optional warranty. Pay $150 for a stick, $170 for the same stick with a 30-day or $210 for the same stick with a 60-day.

It would definitely help bring the price of sticks down a bit, and the manufacturers could then decide how to proceed with their warranties and claims department.

I still think they need to clean up their warranty service though. They're trying to clean up fraud by using the unique serial number, but there are so many more measures they could take to help ensure they're not getting hosed by sneaky customers.

I'm a 19 year old college student who can't afford to pay for tons of OPS. I will abuse the system like many people abuse the music system and DVD movies with piracy and p2p downloading. If Nike Bauer sends me a replacement, I saved $180 and that's more money in my pocket.
