Just got back from a Dave Matthews Band concert!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just got back from an amazing DMB concert at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Absolutely friggin insane. 65,000 people all singing and dancing to Dave Matthews Band. Plus before hand all 65,000 plus people that didn't have tickets tailgated in the parking lot for hours before and after. I arrived at 2pm got back to my hotel room at 2:40am. It's difficult to put into words how amazing it was.

But anyway, what was the best concert you have attended?

whereabouts are you from? i was there for every concert last year cuz i was working for the FD. ozzfest was interesting, id say 2/3 of the crowd left after korn, and didnt even see ozzy.

best concert ive ever seen was either A) Weird Al Yankovic at summerfest here in milwaukee, B) Biz Markie at the aforementioned fest, C) Los Straitjackets at rainbow summer

P.S. if you took I-43 North to get home, you passed the airport which SRV died

Lets not go there. Poor guy finally got his act together and that happens. I was under the impression he never made it to the airport and slammed into one of the slopes.

I couldn't begin to list the concerts I've been to (probably well over 250), there aren't many decent bands (from about '84-99) that I haven't seen. At one point I was going to 3-4 a week for a few years. Thank goodness (no offense anyone) Dave Matthews and Phish are two that I haven't seen... ;)

One interesting one that I remember was seeing Nine Inch Nails before they even had a record deal. They were opening for some really crappy band (can't even remember who it was). Reznor was off his gord... I think they played for like 50 minutes or so, but he was literally climbing the ceiling, hanging from lights and swinging on power cables. I remember thinking at the time "these guys will NEVER get a record deal". Not because they sucked (they were pretty good), but because I didn't think any of them would live for another two months...

I live in Davenport, Iowa. So it was a good two hour drive for me.

Best concert I ever saw was Sonic Youth and Polvo at a small New Orleans club called The Howling Wolf back in '96. I had been wanting to see them live for years but never had the opportunity to go to aynthing other then a stadium tour. Holding out definitely paid off. It was the most amazing concert experience of my life. I was also lucky to get to see a ton of great bands at a club in Pensacola from around 89-94. Soundgarden, Primus, Urge Overkill, Mudhoney, The Melvins, Fugazi, Green Day (twice before any hint of popularity). Some other bands I've seen over the years that were really good are The Flaming Lips, Built to Spill, Moris Day and the Time, Guided by Voices, Ween, Swervedriver, Cheap Trick... I could go on and on.

Best show I saw was Rage Against the Machine back in 1993, before they got big. They ROCKED. I also saw Pearl Jam once, they put on a very good show.

Wow. Rage would be awesome to see live.

I just found out I'm going to see DMB again on October 6th at Iowa State University and then probably again a couple weeks later at University of Wisconsin Madison. I'm quickly becoming a DMB concert junkie.

Actually, I thought Rage was a bit lame on Lolla. They tried to turn it into a political rally and spent most of the set bitching about things. Thank god I wasn't at the next show in Philly when they did the PMRC stunt and refused to play.

When I saw Rage on the Battle of LA tour there was waaaaaaaaaay too much talking. Guy always kept talking about the F.O.P. following him then started talking about how girls getting groped should stick their fingers into guys' eyes. Cockblocker.

I guess I got lucky, Rage's political BS wasn't a part of the show back then.

That's the same year I saw them, you just got lucky.

Uh oh, this could get ugly real quick. I'm picturing someone here having a shrine for him like the Diamonds In The Rough had of Neil Diamond in "Saving Silverman."

I agree, I saw them that year as well, it was nothing but crying about the police and politics. I was really disgusted through the whole thing, I found it ironic that he was actually ridiculing and spitting on the cops that were there to protect THEM from the fans.. gratitude for you.

Whats funny is, these freakin' idiot court jesters (musicians) think that it's their duty to influence us (the unbathed masses) on their positions with politics/the police/whatever. What beter way to do that, than mumble into a freaking microphone while 20,000 scream over your voice so what you end up doing is sounding like one of the teachers on the peanuts... "wah whahhaa wwwaahhh wah waaahhh fwaa faaa fwwwwaaa waaa.." That's the brain power we're dealing with here...

My most memorable concert was the infamous Guns N' Roses riot at Riverport Ampitheatre here (St.Louis) in 1991. Long story short for those who don't know, Axl got pissed because someone had a camera and he jumped into the crowd. A massive riot ensued and they were banned from playing here again.

My first concert that I ever went to was earlier that year seeing Kiss (without the make-up). Great show, those guys know how to entertain. Also saw them in 1997 for their reunion tour (with Ace and Peter and full make-up). I was blown away by that.

I saw Joe Satriani front row about 8 years ago. My head was literally inches from a speaker and I couldn't hear for 2 days straight. It was awesome!

Another good story is when Van Halen came here in the summer of 1993 while the "St. Louis Flood of '93" was occuring. The Missouri River was only a couple hundred feet from the outdoor ampitheatre and it was about to crest above the flood wall. Signs were posted reading "Enter at your own risk". They even sold lifejackets and innertubes.....

Other good concerts include Poison, Metallica (before they became sellouts), Def Leppard, Warrant....so many during the early-mid 90's. I don't go to as many now only due to playing too much hockey and unwillingness to skip a game.

I can guarentee i'm the biggest DMB fan here.

I'm not sure about that one, but since I want to avoid an argument, I will let it go.
