mrusse01 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Spot on!Curious though, eve without goalies were you still just shooting for an empty net, not posts or anything? If you're shooting for posts who cares where you are. You'd have to be a pretty slick player to be trying to tip a shot off the post.I actually don't mind playing without goalies, but you have to shoot for posts...just an empty net is retarded, I've never played a game like that other than like 2 on 2 pond hockey. For someone to punch you in the head, obviously he is a dick...the only thing I get slighty ticked about is if we're shooting posts and some dman is routinely backing all the way into his own crease off the rush, or is standing in the blue ice on a cycle or something....people are shooting for the posts, or often the crossbar, usually from what is traditionally considered a bad angle, so get out of the damn way so you don't get hit with the puck. Kevin 5 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 People starting their own urban legends. I went to a drop-in where this guy was a Midget B1 D-man at best and he said he played ECHL. Sure whatever... The funniest part is that a lot of idiots at the drop-in believed him. That's when the internet hockey database comes in handy. I run an A level team in Boston and hear all matter of hockey tall tales from potential players, e.g., club players who claim to have played D3 varsity, a guy who was a very marginal D3 player (did not even play senior year) and claimed to have an offer to play in the DEL, a guy who was "the last cut" from BU's 1995 NCAA championship team and who was actually a marginal HS player, etc.
layziebone_ 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 I just don't understand why the punch in the back of my head. Hockey isn't my primary sport. I've been an amateur boxer for 6 years and stopped last year to concentrate on school and work on coaching. I'm working my way up to coaching at a national level soon. The reason I started playing hockey was because boxing was getting too intense and I needed another sport that would feel more like fun rather than like a job. Last thing I need on the ice is more punches towards me.

I probably wouldn't have gone toe to toe with the dude, but I definitely would've shoved him back to make sure he knows it's not appreciated. moving someone from in front of the net is one thing and is part of any hockey game. But throwing a sucker punch is pussy.

Also, I've broken my hands "boxer's fracture" often enough to know fist fighting isn't worth it

fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted November 26, 2008 I've started playing D more or less full time in the last season. Even during shinny, i just stick to playing D, let the hogs do their own shit and lose the puck. Funny thing is that when we do the passing thing, we draw the other teams out of position soooo easily, but the guys just cant get it in their head to play that way. They dont realise that games would be so much and more fun when everyone is involved...The rink I play at has a 3 min limit on shifts... there's a countdown timer that we reset every shift... once the timer goes, shift change for everyone. If there isnt enough, then someone gets to do a double shift and we make sure we take turns.
armada 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2008 Playing with women that constantly complain about how you play with them. By no means am I a dirty player or try to be one, but lately I'm getting to a point where I rather not even go out and play with them because I have to question my every movement around them just to make sure they are happy. If anybody got any tips on how to play with women I would love to hear them.

AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 Another pet peeve: 2 hour open shinny that doesn't start 'til midnight...I was gonna go tonight, until I saw the start time. I'm a night person, but that's crazy! What, you don't want to hop in on my 12:20am pickup hour? haha... The time is absurd, but it has it's benefits.... we get the rink at $100/hr (going rate at this place is $195) and we usually get to skate until 2:30 or so. Let's just say I have lazy Sundays. I can't wait to get back to MI for 24/7 township run "ponds" where they flood a barn for a nice even, somewhat indoor sheet, and reasonable 10:30pm rental slots a few times a week. dsjunior1388 81 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I hate when three or four guys show up together and dont pass to anyone else. They all wear the same jersey and stay out way too long.We have this clown at my local drop in game, complete jerk. This guy is like 6'4" without skates, and about 350 pounds. He comes in decked out in a red helmet with the horrible itech "optical" combo shield. Red gloves red pants, rangers socks and a sean avery jersey. And glasses. He skates around at about 5 miles per hour tops and just uses his stick to jab and hook and trip, laughing and grinning while the rest of us want to beat the crap out of him.
