NCAA end-of-season sales?

Recommended Posts

I know pro squads sell lots of gear at the end of seasons, but has anybody ever heard of NCAA teams doing this? I know my school's team def. gets brand new equipment every year so I was wondering if anybody on here that played in college knows the deal.

I don't think so, most teams will use up the sticks, and probably send the skates back to the Manufacturers or to PIAS type stores like tjl said. I can't see a sale like this happening unless a school switches sponsorship from, say, reebok to nike, which would leave lots of unusable (by contract) reebok gear around, and they choose to have a sale.

Kevin smith's sports connection, I picked up my sticks mid August and there was quite a few there, but my friend went late July and picked some up and he said there was quite a good selection. The only get 1-2 shipments of pro-stock sticks per year, so its better to call before hand. The sticks are usally 100$ for the first one and 80$ for each additional one, but I got a little bit of a deal because I bought some other equipment too. KSSC also has lots of easton pro-stocks for the same price.

Michigan does.

I have you ever been to one of those? If so do they every sell their sweet helmets?

No they dont.

Just to clearify, Michigan does have a sale but they don't sell helmets... Most equipment sales try to avoid selling helmets because they aren't certified and it's a legal liability, some have you sign waivers.

I have a buddy that flies up for the Michigan sale every year, buys a bunch of stuff. Sells some, keeps some.

Ok, KSSC, now thinking about it, that's why he had a bunch of green sticks in there. He seems to always have the $99 OPS deals, although, they have some pretty whacko curves - I'm surprized they even sell.

BTW, best deals are directly from Kevin. He's in the BTV store once a week (currently Tuesdays) and most often will to work something out. Or you can get the SnAlbans store.

thanks for the info!

I know UND doesn't usually have one. I think they just give most of there stuff to the local PIAS store.

Many years ago, the Sioux used to sell their stuff cheap in Bismarck. When I was a teenager and had to buy my own equipment, I'd always get UND stuff at a sale in Bismarck. The sale was at Schaumberg arena. I always assumed there were sales like that in Fargo, GF, Minot and other cities in ND. Do they not do this anymore? Without those sales, I don't think I could have afforded to skate as a kid. It was a sweet thing for the school to do. When I upgrade gear, I now try to donate my old stuff to youth groups. Pay the good karma back...

I don't think they do. I checked last year and they said they didn't do that. I'll have to ask again when there season is over this year.

The Minnesota Gophers have a contract with the Play It Again Sports in Fargo, ND and they get all their gear when they are done with it.

They not only get game worn gear, but they get all the extra unused gear as well.

I've got Mission pro stock helmets with Itech Titanium shields for $40, maroon pants with embroidered 'M' logos for $30 (brand new), pro stock Easton s9 maroon and gold gloves with embroidered 'M' on the thumbs, home and away socks with the Nike swoosh on them, and they've been doing this for years...

They even get game used goalie masks, blockers, and gloves...

Read the NCAA rules. The deal would have to be between the school and the vendor as college players don't get the gear, school does. Players don't have much to say in many cases. Number of years ago there were big protests in Ann Arbor when UMich was switching to Nike. Fuck the Swoosh and likes. I have heard it can actually cost the school more money to sell vs give it away and get a tax/new equipment credit.

Michigan does.
