Pro Skates

Recommended Posts

I have used the search button but could not find what I had seen somewhere on this forum. It was a list of all the skates the NHL use. From the most popular down to least used. And how many where out there.

Interested in particular as to the use of the Vapor XXXX skate in the NHL.

Thanks to all.

Michael

you're starting to see alot more of the one95s

They're dressing up S9s now to look like One95s. I saw this firsthand a few weeks back at a women's game in British Columbia.

When you say lots of xxxxs or one95s...

Are they really xxxxs or one95s? or just skates dressed up to look like them?

They are really XXXXs and one95s but they are mostly likely custom and not stock. So I guess there not "really" the skates you see in the stores but if you wanna get customs you can pretty much get the same skate they wear.

They're wearing the same skates as retail. Not much is changed. Trust me, I've seen them being made first-hand.

I barely see Grafs

From what I've read Graf doesn't necessarily sponsor anybody, so those who do choose to wear them do so purely because they like Graf skates the best, as opposed to getting lots of free stuff or money. Also, while not many players wear Grafs, I do notice that lots of refs wear Graf (Can you guess what skates I wear?).

(somebody please correct me if i'm wrong, this is just what i read somewhere)

how many different variations/versions of the one90/one95 are there? i've seen quite a few.

the most recent ones.. worn by Chris Phillips of the Ottawa Senators.

the soles being plastic (not graphite/composite soles).. like the bauer 500s.

actually, check out "The Pros" page on www.grafcanada.com. Graf is being used by quite a few players in the show... it's just that *almost* none of them are top-50 scorers (maybe with the exception of Spezza), and therefore go relatively unnoticed.

I am 90% sure that referees that do professional games have to wear black skates, which is why you don't see too many wearing s15's for example. So I think that most of them either wear grafs or pumps, and possibly one90's , although I'm not sure.

Nike/Bauer skates are the most popular in the NHL by quite a wide margin. They are followed by Reebok/CCM. The rest of the league is split between Easton,Graf and Mission. Haven't seen any Kors or Torspo skates worn by anyone in the big leagues. Quite frankly my next skates will probably be Grafs. I want them to last a while. Even though I'm only playing a few times a week ( I'm wearing Bauer Vapors presently ) my skates seem to only last a couple of years before they're toast. Grafs are undoubtly the best skates made on the market for durability.

In reading this thread and looking at the "top scorers skates" I started thinking that things could change over the next 10 years drastically...

10-15 years ago you could really only get Canstar (Bauer, Mega, Daust) or CCM Skates... Grafs were just starting to emerge and I think Brian Leetch and Gordon Bombay were the only men alive sporting Eastons...Most of the guys playing pros only had Bauer or CCM to choose from

Now Graf, Easton, and Mission have paid money to get thier skates in the show, made a decent product, and have the kids wearing them... As those guys get older and make it to the show... we could see more Eastons and so on

JC or Chadd, do the retail sales numbers follow the same distribution as the pros? IE 60% of skates are an NBH product?

Leetchie wore 501s his whole career.

Gordon Bombay wore Easton-branded Riedells. :)

I've seen the entire NHL breakdown and Graf is WAY low. If NBH were to pay off EVERY PLAYER that wears their skate, they'd go broke. So - no, they're not doing it - the NBH pro reps concentrate on getting players in gloves and sticks, the skates essentially sell themselves. Not only that, a lot of word-of-mouth in the locker room.

Refs wear Graf as it is a clean, traditional skate.

Not the new kind...I'm talking 700 series. I mean, it's a leather-bound skate. That's why you still see those 70 y/o guys coming out to open skate with their 50-year old CCM Tacks...
