-venom- 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2008 Why do roller "hockey" players insist on running around without their shirts on all the time? They don't. It's just the occasional douche. There's one in every crowd, no need to limit it to roller hockey guys.I'm not convinced. If there is a guy chillin' around the rink shirtless and without the benefit of a shower, 98 times in 100, he's on wheels. The other two times, he's a roller guy that has just taken his skates off.I dont buy that. Plenty of ice players here walk around shirtless after games.I think some people forget the temperature difference in an Ice Arena compared to a Roller Hockey Rink, as well.Out here in Vegas, our rink has easily been in the high-80s or so. Add a couple of games? Yeah, excuse enough to lose the shirts. What's the excuse when there are four sheets in a single building - three ice and one roller - all of which sharing the same lobby?A) It's incredibly rareB) then, there is no excuse

#44wannabe 4 Report post Posted October 24, 2008 Why does everyone love this kid so much? In the USHL he got like 2 points in 9 games, hardly lighting the lague up. Yeah he has some sweet moves but as stated above there are certain things you can do to 'assist' with this.I can't wait him to get his bell rung in the ECHL. He's been playing Ice for what, 3 years?Think you could play at his level with 3 years Ice experience?Give him time. He has the talent and the skillset to do pretty well, particularly for a guy who got into the game on inlines.I understand the BS between Ice and Roller guys, but it's stupid. It's all hockey, we should be rooting for each other whether it be on ice or sport court, and regardless of which side we 'belong' to.Jeez.
#44wannabe 4 Report post Posted October 24, 2008 Nothing to do with what side we belong, just think the kids 'in game' skills are way overrated. And yeah, if i had had the same training as him why the hell not? Who's to say i wouldn't have made it?

Yoke 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 I'm surprised to see that this guy is in the ECHL. I know a guy or two in that league, and I don't think he could hang.I could be wrong though. All I've seen is little highlight videos.

mattzilla 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 This place is overrun with haters and jocksniffers. If the kid can make it, cool. If not? he's playing at a level most of us can't with however much training. He has natural skill. Rollerhockey isn't a chump sport that you can play with no skills. It's still hockey. It still takes skill, and obviously this kid has a lot of it. But you can't just jump from roller never having played ice and expect instant results. They have him in these leagues for a reason and its his UPSIDE. Once he figures out the ice side of things, I think he'll be fine. The fact that he has made it this far on more or less raw potential shows you something. Coulda shoulda woulda. Well, he is. Save up, quit your job and take a shot at it if you think you got what it takes. You think I would be sitting here pounding away at a keyboard at work if I thought i could make the bigs? or even a minor pro team? please. I would be out of here in a second. But lets be honest with ourselves here...Get over yourself.

SuperMan3 1 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 Not really, there are some players that go to College for education rather then go to the ECHL, you don't make that much at that level, so the good players don't waste their time.
SolarWind 23 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 Not really, there are some players that go to College for education rather then go to the ECHL, you don't make that much at that level, so the good players don't waste their time.that's a VERY good point! lower level pros definitely don't make much & also never get a degree or anything like that so when their pro days are over sometimes aren't good for muchwhat is also sad it is that when some boys get scholarship, but also never excel at academics - they get carried through college on hockey alone, and at the end end up in the same boat as above... fastbrother7 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 Im an avid supporter of kids getting thier education ( I have 2 degrees working on a 3rd, and aspire to go to law school ), but school isnt for everyone. I figure its better than the kids who do nothing but waste tax dollars in prision or milk the system all day. He's doing something positive, so I cant hate on that.On another note, a friend of mine plays for Utah, and I think they play the Reign on Weds. I told him to youtube this kid and what ever he does, dont over commit when attacking this kid! lol

A teammate of mine in my house league is friends with Itan, and has helped with Dangl Productions and what not, so I believe he talks to him pretty regularly. I'll see if he has heard anything about Itan playing or not, but like you said - it's not a bad gig, even if he is just on the bench for the time being.... flymonty3 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 ha I gave up pro hockey to make about 60 times more putting my degree to use and getting a real job and let me tell you, now that camps have just ended and seasons have started, I miss playing way too much. I know some others feel the same.Ken Dryden would disagree.I'm not going to get the quote quite right, but it goes something like this: "In my 20s, playing for the Canadiens, I was doing more interesting, exciting, and remunerative work than anyone else in my graduating class; by 30, I was in the bottom third."He'd be the first one to admit that about 50% was his own attitude toward the game, and 50% was the progress his peers had made in their respective fields.
