Metal Tipped laces

Recommended Posts

Where can I find these? I break laces all the time and along with the metal tips, which are the strongest? I'm sure some of you guys are way more up to date on accessories than I am.

There was a post on this a while back, but i think i remember someone saying that the companies that made them stopped because the metal tips can fall off when you're on the ice and then that becomes a hazard to all the players.

in the Play It Now Vegas thread, towards the end, Chadd said someone has reintroduced the idea.. and is giving them a run through...keep an eye there for updates.

they are the gorilla laces, by SportMate. We just got some demo pairs in the shop a week or two ago. im thinking about giving them a spin to lend some feedback for booking time, but my guess is we wont be stocking them. They seem like the old nike laces that came in the skates a few years ago.

They can actually be pretty dangerous as I experianced first hand. Because of the length of the metal, it can be 1/2-way through the eyelet and if you are trying to take of your skate(or put on) it will not budge/bend from its position and can scrape you pretty bad.

yeah...those won't last....looks like they'll be having the same issues as nbh did....plus they're round

More oval than round and mine are still holding up well.

That doesn't sound dangerous to me. Then again, I unlace my skates before I try and take them off.

So you wear em? Are they as good as advertised in the links I've been presented with previously in the thread? I did buy a couple sets of Graf wax laces tonight, but I still want metal tips. I'm a bit leery if they're round, but do tell me some more about these and why you use them. BTW, I did check out the Kor skates yesterday at HockeyGiant. They seem fairly similar to the Torspos in the arch area and the heel. Same weight but different holders. Im taking those garish blue holders off my Torspos and putting something more sensible on them. If I could find some black Tuuks I'd be set, otherwise I could put on Lightspeed2s like my 8090s.

I've been on the road a lot since the Vegas show and I've only skated in them half a dozen times or so but no problems yet.

Understandable. I'm going to check out the show/expo at the State Hockey Tourney in a couple weeks. Anyone going to that or have gear they will be demonstrating?

More oval than round

The photo from Icewarehouse seem to be pretty round...but that's just that.. a picture..how are the tips holding up? I know you'll be more careful than that of a youth player...

On a Side note to this same topic.. one of the kids at my rink dropped his skates off for sharpening, and his laces had One metal, and one regular tipped lace (on one lace/skate) I asked him where he got it, and he said that Perani's (Flint or GR?) had them, just the metal tips to pinch on to your laces once the plastic was gone. Can anyone confirm and price?

I got a couple pairs of the Gorilla Laces in the white cotton Waxed to replace my black rounds. The Rounds are definitely a smaller diameter tip. These bigger diameters are impossible to get through the eyelets. Does anyone else have this problem?

I have the guerilla laces too. been using them for about 3 months now. one of the metal tips have fallen off. I like them better than standard laces. the cylindrical shape makes them easier to lace and tie IMO

I used these laces for a season. One of the tips fell off when i was unlacing. I stepped on another one and flattened it so i canno take it out of the eyelet. I'm not sure i'd get them again. I bought them cause i thought the tips would last forever, but that has not been the case
