Gretzky is praising Kovalev

Recommended Posts

Wayne Gretzky does not dry up praises at the place of Alex Kovalev.

The player high-speed motorboat of the Canadian knows a whole season with 69 points in 67 parts. He illustrates himself particularly in numerical advantage with 40 points since the beginning of the year, a top in the national League.

Thursday morning, the trainer of the Coyotes of Phoenix said that if the Canadian finds himself in such an enviable position with the classification, it is mainly thanks to Kovalev, which should be one of the candidates to be supervised for the Hart trophy which rewards the player most useful to his team.

"Kovalev is one of the most complete players whom I saw, Gretzky said. It knows one exceptional season and must be considered for the Hart trophy with the success which it knows."

"I am happy of my season, but at present, I concentrate on things more important than the personal statistics", answered the principal interested one.

The Wonder launched flowers only in Kovalev. As Michel Therrien had done it two weeks ago by mentioning that Guy Carbonneau should be the candidate number one to gain the trophy Jack Adams, Gretzky went from the same kind of matter Thursday. It places Carbonneau in a group of four trainers who it supports to be a trainer of the year.

"Julien, Carbonneau, Boudreau and Tippett are among the best trainers of the League, evaluates Gretzky. Carbo and its team do remarkable work with the Canadian."

Whoa, that's a hell of a translation.

I sure would not praise the Habs after this period. 14-5 the shots for the Coyotes, and the Mini Gretz played last night in Dallas.

I would praise Carey...and that's about it. Koivu & Kovy both had a couple good shifts of puck possession, but that don't mean shit without a SOG.

Don't worry Kovalev responded.. 3A, just another game for Kovy this season.

Finally some people around the league seeing he deserves some Hart talk

Funny thing about the Hart talk... If he had HEART he would be the best player in the game right now.

you clearly dont follow the habs, at least this year

That's the problem with Kovalev...he's got such a bad rep for who he has played in the past...so every time his play THIS year is praised, people go "yeah...he's a good talent but he has no heart"

It' Kovy's own fault...and he's working damn hard this year to fix it.

I've seen him play plenty of times, I've seen his skill set. If he was going 100% all the time, he'd be the best in the game. I've never seen him hustle all game, nothing more than a few shifts here and there.

I'm glad he is doing well again but given his skillset, he should have been twice the player he ended up being on the whole.

its one season, the guy dogfucks it through numerous seasons and all the sudden we're supposed to believe he actually gives a damn? c'mon. lets see him string a few seasons together.. maybe that will change our minds.

he's almost 35 years old man, it's a little hard to be able to go 100% all game long in NHL at that age

It's just his style of play. He can't do his fancy dangles when skating top speed and he doesn't want to anyway. At least the guy is honest... he says he wants to play hockey until he's very old and he knows that going a 100% in this league will break his body faster. Definatly not an attitude i would take as an example but i can easily understand it.

Hart talk? Nobody is beating Ovechkin, especially if they squeak into the playoffs. Gomez has 66 pts in 68 games, Kovy 72 in 68. Does 6 pts make you a contender for the Hart? I don't think so. This "talk" obviously is being drummed up by the Montreal media - buncha homers.

kovalev is a changed player for sure.. and do any of the top players in the league go 100 % 100 % of the time? no they dont.. they know to conserve energy, because throwing a few extra body checks might tire them out, and they wouldnt be able to do what the are pay to do, and thats score..

If you would have follow the Habs all season, you would understand why he deserves the Hart trophy.

As much as it pains me to say it, Kovy is having a great year. I just don't think you can say that he deserves the Hart. Has he been the best player on that team? Probably. Still, its a team that plays very well together, and in the Habs games I've seen this year (10-15), I really don't think he has been that much above the rest of the team. Without him you could argue the Habs would still be in the playoff hunt. No way does Washington win more than 20 games this year without Ovy.

I can't imagine Kovalev getting the votes to win the Hart trophy. His reputation as a floater (not the specific hockey definition but a guy who just doesn't put the effort in) in the league is too much to overcome.

Theres a few guys out there that give their all. Giving your 100% takes a lot of heart and good conditioning. It doesnt mean skating as hard as you can all the time, that's being hyperactive I've seen kids like that... giving your 100% means to always be in position. Always skate hard and with purpose. It doesn't mean going full speed the entire shift, hitting everything that moves, that's something else, we'll call that the Ovvie complex.

What does it mean to give your 100%? Playing the best of your abilities and trying to push your limits. You always skate hard(this means when you have to, chasing down a puck, getting back on defense, getting involved in the play). You are always looking to make a play or be involved in a play, you're always in position AND you get back on defense. You don't need to hit everything and everyone, that's not everyone's game.

"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."

When you're as talented as a Craig Macdonald(TBL) you can only go soo far with hard work, he's (sadly) been one of the Lightning's stronger players... Now if you're a Kovalev or Lecavalier and you give that effort and you're hands down the best player right now. If either had been giving their all since they came into the league and they are mentioned along-side of Lemieux, Orr and Gretzky, the greatest to ever play the game... instead of guys that are 5+ years YOUNGER than them that are just getting started.
