What player has lost in the most cup finals?

Recommended Posts

I'm depressed about losing 2 championships back to back, so I need to hear about someone who had terrible luck in their career to make me feel better.

Plus I thought it would be an interesting topic.

Just to state the obvious, that is a list of players who played in the most final series where they lost that series. It doesn't mean anything in regards to how many final series they played and won.

Most of those guys are from the Original 6, with the notable exception of Brian Propp. Propp had lots of years in Philly when they had good teams with three runs to the final. Then he jumped to Boston for, IIRC, their only run to the final in the 80s and 90s. The next year he jumped to Minnesota for one of the 2 runs to the finals the North Stars ever made. Good timing on his part.

Chippa thanks for the reply. I believe I asked who appeared in the most cup finals without winning it, not who lost the most finals. Quoting a post to spots ahead of mine was a bad attempt at trying to make me look stupid. Nonetheless, sorry to ramble on.

I'm confused. Since when is there a difference between appearing in the finals without winning and losing the finals. You cannot lose the finals without actually being there?

There is some confusion. What the OP said was what player went to the finals the most and never won a Cup during his career. The confusion came when stats were put up of how many times a player (Howe for example) got to the finals and lost, but still ended up winning a Cup during their career. Make sense?

To clarify: The OP was asking who has lost the most cup finals series' but may have won later in their career, while the other question was asking who had lost the most Cup final series' and never won a cup?
