another good one surprisingly is jumping rope.

Yes, that works pretty well too. When i was still a fatso i would jump 100-200 times everynight. Worked like a charm.

I bought a cheap pair of hockey skates, put some outdoor wheels on them, and skate aroung tennis courts. I even take a stick and puck to work o my shots.

Weights, push ups, and I have a tennis court/outdoor rink near my house, so I play pick up there with the locals.

One word gents, BOXING. You hit a bag with a fury of shots and in about 30 seconds you'll be dead on the floor! Especially in pre season. Make sure you are taught proper boxing technique though. Theres nothing worse than someone trying to punch a bag and actually slap it.

"So is there beer?"

"Of course theres beer, we're hockey players dude!"

Sprints. Find a dirt trail and get a watch. For 1 minute you sprint and then for 30 seconds you jog/run/walk.. whatever fits your skill but I would suggest jogging but then after that 30 seconds, you do a sprint again for a minute. Keep repeating the process and you will be in shape. Sprinting also burns a lot of fat. Now, if you're like me, you will be better off running as fast as you can for 5 km and just maybe someday you will be able to do 5 km in 16 minutes and 30 seconds like me.. an average velocity of 5.1 m/s lol.

Yes combining skipping with a boxing/punching workout on the heavy bag, is a great combination for both an aerobic and anaerobic workout...particularily if you vary your skipping speeds. Speed bag can also help with forearm strength, timing and coordination. Not to mention some fringe benefits on the playing surface....

Easy, never get off shape :)

I was going to say the same thing. Barring injury or other extenutating circumstances, just try to keep active without burning yourself out in the off season so it's not such a big step back.

There's alot of good suggestions here and I'd do them all, but try and stay on your inlines as much as possible. Take them everywhere, use them are your primary means of transportation. You'll be in tremendous shape and it is pretty fun as well.

My parents wont let me box. :( (I went to the Erik Morales fight and it was awesome.)

But I run a few times a week, Play roller hockey out side, Swim, and do push ups and sit ups. It all seems to work pretty well.

Nice one matey, but Im sure you can convince your olds to let you box. Write up a 10 minute proposal outling what you wish to achieve and mark out the benefits, use diagrams and graphs. Im sure you're parents will be so stoked by the effort they'll have to let you box! ;)

I think I am actually going to try that (tommorow though, I'm too tired now). I sure hope it works (probally not though, they already gave me all the reasons why I cant). But if it doesnt I can turn the paper in for a school writing assignment. :D Well, I am going to give it a try. Wish me Luck.

Use obvious pros to begin with like fitness etc, but theres also reaction training which boxing is fantastic at. Reading a boxer is just like reading a puck carrier. Split second decisions make or break the defensive play.

I started boxing when I first made the state team here in Victoria, towards the end of the National State Championship my checking was on par with those in the Men's Div. and I was playing the Under 17 Div (I think you guys call it midget?)

Hire a projector and set it up on PowerPoint. The rest as they say is history...

Good luck

Awesome stuff dude. Good to hear your parents are flexible. If mine said no to something it was NO for good let me tell you. Let us know (if you start) how boxing improves your game.
