Tape question

Recommended Posts

Ok, I see alot of pros using colored tape for their socks, It's the same as the normal clear tape just colored. Any on know there to get it?

Ya it's pretty much the same but colored. It seems a bit like electrical tape which comes in a variety of colors. Check your lhs and if they don't have it then go with electrical tape, it works just as good.

Has anybody tried out that stuff from Hockey Monkey? A friend of mine has something similar and it looked like ribbon and peeled off just as easily. It didn't hold well at all. Thanks in advance.

It's the same stuff on both sites.

Or you could use clear?

I use cloth tape and it's just fine. I don't know why the stretchy plastic tape would be any better. I went through 5 rolls I got in a mixed box and never noticed the difference, except having shitty ends from tearing/stretching it that would never stick down. Made a nice handle to start taking it off, but why?

Seemed the same as any clear tape to me, held as well as any.

Cloth doesn't stretch much, something you notice if you tape your pads tight.

I did notice that it doesn't stretch. Is that the point? When I use cloth tape I don't need to crank down, the tape will stay as tight as when I put it on when I'm back after skating. With the clear tape a I really had to pre-stretch the stuff as I applied it to make sure my shins weren't shifting during play.

Add to the fact cloth is cheaper, I don't see the point of the plastic tape.

I usually don't use tape on my shins but when I have the difference to me was noticable. When the muscles in my legs flexed, the cloth tape bit into my legs while the poly tape had a little give in it.

Thanks for the input. I always have the same issue as Chadd with the cloth. I like my shins held very tightly and with cloth it bites into my legs.

I'm the same, if I get the tape even a little to tight it bugs me. What I use is those shin sleeves that goes over your shin pads. Those and my normal straps keep my shin pads from moving so there is no need for tape on the outside.

get electrical tape from home depot works the best. and its like 10cents a roll.

And leave gummy residue all over your socks in the process.

I'll vouch for the white poly from monkey. I ordered some white cloth and clear poly from them a while back to get the total high enough for free shipping; they sent me white poly instead of cloth. It's just like the clear in terms of adhesion and stretchiness.

Still, I prefer Comp-o to renfrew any day of the week.

If I accidentally tape too tight with cloth I just yank up on the pad while I'm on the bench, loosens a bit. On either side of the knee where the shin portion flares out a bit, grab either side and yank away from the leg.

Taking my ankles with the clear tape was the worst. I was flopping like Hasek after a warmup lap having stretched everything out. Never made that mistake twice.

Same here. Cloth tape digs in and bothers me, clear tape just keeps the shins in place. The One90 shins move back and forth a bit so I use just a strip of clear to keep them from moving around.
