Least Restrictive Shoulder pads?

Recommended Posts

Havok,

What didn't you like about the Farrells? I just bought a pair. The thing I don't like is that they have no stomach or lower back protection.

Didn't want to start a new thread but a quick question: if you take off all the extra padding is it possible to wash farrell shoulder pads with no damage?

Not sure, but what I can tell you is that the guys that are using the white ones look nasty as hell with sweat stains. Get the black ones if they are available.

yes, they are ok to wash without the pads, i did mine and they are fine, just air dry though, no machine dryers.

I've washed mine a few times with no problems, air dried.

quick questions, my cooper shoulders finally went on me, which which would be a better buy:

CCM V04 or RBK/Jofa 4K's? price difference is $10.

also im 6' 200lbs and 43" chest, i would fit a large though correct?

I just bought CCM04's. I like them. They are the low end pad...so if you are in a heavy contact league you may need more pad. But, as far as weight and mobility...I like them.

Add another vote for Jofa.

Jofa are the most protective but weigh you down like bricks. You can't have protective and least restrictive in the same pad. There are plenty of other choices that are good combinations of mobility and protection: Easton Stealth, NBH Vapor and CCM Vector are good choices.

I can't really notice the weight at all

I mean they seem heavy at first when you try them on but I don't notice it all when I play.

But when I get cross checked in the back or check someone I'm glad I have the extra protection.

I know I've said it before but the JDP really works also, An AC seperation is not a fun matter and the JDP caps disperse the impact away from it, unlike other pads I've tried.

Yeah, but the topic is about least restrictive, not most protective. Some people are in leagues where they don't have to care about protection nearly as much.

There are lines of pads that are designed to be much less restrictive. I would say look for something with the anatomical shoulder caps instead of the traditional round ones.

Nike Bauer One 90s are very protective, not too heavy, and made well.

Bu tthey are damn bug looking under the jersey.

Farrels sound really interesting.

Has anyone tried lacrosse shoulder pads? I just saw a sales flyer for The Sports Authority and they have a bunch of lacrosse gear on sale, they had a pair of Warrior shoulder pads pictured and they looked like they'd be much lower profile than hockey shoulder pads and more mobile but looked like they still offered pretty good protection. I didn't catch the price on them but I may go check them out this week.

I keep a pair of SWD 5030's in the bag. My only complaint is that I wish the shoulder caps were a bit smaller. Otherwise my favorite shoulders that were light and the least restrictive were the ol Cooper Techniflex. Super light. Good protection and great mobility. You'll probably have a hard time finding new ones but you might be able to locate a used set.

I've been pretty happy with my Vapor XXV's so far. Fairly well ventilated and not restrictive for such a protective pad. The model below them was even less restrictive (and cheaper). Only problem so far is they like to creep up on me, but all pads I've tried do that to some extent.

Jdp's are great pads, i agree. However i seperated my shoulder with a pair of rbk 8k's and it wasnt fun. Right now im wearing farrells and ive never experianced anything like them, im a very physical player who loves to hit and because of my puck carrying nature often is hit and the farrells are just great. Ive blocked shots and taken slash's and never felt anything, not just that but there beyond mobile. There amazingly light weight as well but they tend to get hot, this might just be due to our new jerseys not having airholes in them too though.
