Performance Shirts

My longsleeve RBK one is nice. It's got the moisture wicking material on the front and mesh like material on the back. Keeps me cool and dry like cotton never could. I don't ever have too many issues with elbow pad slippage, so that doesn't seem to be much of an issue for me.

I got 2 short-sleeve Matrix ones over the weekend to use up a SportsChek gift card, from my son's hockey team. I will try one out in my game tomorrow.

I might pick up some more from Winners if this works out.

Thanks for the input!

for a goalie i think that the underaromur pants are a great substitute for socks and a garterbelt. you bet movement and you dont get teh metal things poking you. shirts i use a teeshirt (no name from department store) that isn't the tight spandexlike but it is llose. i love it. it keeps the shoulder pads from skinking up real bad. i use it 3-4 times and then wash it. they last a while for me

Recently I'd been using the second generation of the Nike Pro hockey shirt, with the grip printing. It held my 9144 elbows in place reasonably well, though my bottom hand pad would slip after certain shots. Just like the XXXX shirt it kept me dry but was drenched post-use.

I have a UA Heat Gear Ice on the way, also with grip printing. I'll tell how they compare.

So, I finally remembered to use the Matrix one last night in a game. It seemed to get just as wet and clammy as cotton for me, probably because the shoulder pads trapped the moisture, and the shoulder pads seemed to slide around a bit more. But, after the game, it dried quickly, and was easier to take off because it is stretchier than cotton.

I used it in the gym a few times, and in there it really wicked the moisture well.

Now both of my Matrix performance shirts stink, after about 3 uses each, and I can't de-stink them. I have used Tide Free and Ultra Tide, in warm, hot, and cold wash cycles.

Is this something that I have to live with, or is there a detergent that works with this performance fabric?

I have heard that fabric softener and dryer sheets ruin the wicking properties.

I interviewed Christopher Goodrich with Kibosh at the Let's Play Hockey Show this January. He was displaying a product that is meant to replace detergents for performance apparels, since he said they somehow trap the odors in fabrics that are designed to wick.

The link goes to 29 Sports' video page. Once there, you have to click on the Let's Play Hockey link to the right, and possibly on the Kibosh link after that, although the Kibosh video might play automatically.

Thanks for the link, now I know why the odors are lingering and what wash products to look for.

And, now we know what you look and sound like - nice interview! :)

I've been using oxyclean along with our regular detergent and my puckskin and WSI shirts are both like new, despite being several years old.

Chadd: do you use powder detergent or liquid? Some of the guys at work say that liquid detergent could also clog the fabric.

Arm and Hammer liquid and I've never had a problem. They now have a version with oxyclean mixed in to the detergent that I'll be trying soon.
