Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Hey guys, Im on abit of a lay off atm from Hockey. Crapped on my shoulder again and its going to need 4-6 weeks to heal. Major bummer as we are in the midst of the main season here for ice and Im missing out big time. Anyways, what do some of you do to stop the feeling of hysteria/rejection from not playing hockey? I coach atm and its the biggest pump up to be so close to the ice but not on it. When normally Im fine as I get over the fact as I know I'll be on the ice soon after. My girlfriend suggested I take up knitting, I refused to dignify that suggestion with a response. <_<

D aka speck 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Shoulder? Pad and tape it good....play with one hand for the most part.Zach Great advice if you want to keep feeling that injury into your 30's and beyond.I think that there have been too many threads on here asking medical advice. You should be alright coaching beginner lil league, but I wouldn't push it past that point.Let it heal for god's sake!Even pros take time to heal bro!Give the kids EDGE drills while you heal, BEST WORK-OUT EVER! coryroth24 15 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Edge drills?I'd stay off edge drills. Last thing you need is to push your edges, wipe out and land on the bad shoulder. Got an exercise bike?
zales17 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Im with you man, not really an injury, but illness is requiring me to stay off of the ice for a month to 6 weeks. Its killing me :( best of luck, heal up, itll pay off in the long run.

eric42434224 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I am not sure what you know about your injury, but just in case, I would recommend you do the following:I literally just got back from my orthopedist and was actually surprised by his advice.I injured my shoulder 10 years ago in a bar fight, and for the last 6 years it has become a chronic injury with alot of pain....especially raising my arm and at night sleeping on it. I had x-rays and an MRI done, and it was determined that I had some fraying of the labrum, and some possible bursitis or arthritis, and some other words I cant pronounce. In other words, the orthopedist said I didnt need surgery....just a cortisone shot and physical therapy. He was very adamant that I DO NOT STOP playing hockey or lifting weights....just to avoid certain excercises like military press. My point is, you should never do...or not do....anything unless you know the specifics of your injury. Come to find out in my case, I can, and should, continue my hockey and lifting. Cortisone and PT can work wonders.Get checked out if you havent already.Just my two cents from personal experience.Good Luck!!!!
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Not a bad time to mention that Im not after medical advice, I have plenty of that from my GP, physio and sister (also a doc).Im just wondering what some of you do when you are off the ice, but bored out of your brains? Something that you do to pass the time and get over the fact that you are addicted to hockey yet not on the ice.

Too bad you can't gt the NHL channel over there, there's usually something interesting on that. One of the guys on our team was out with a broken ankle, yet he showed up for most of the games just to hang out with the guys. I'm hitting the doctor tomorrow to try and resolve a couple lingering issues. WIth any luck I'll only miss the game tomorrow.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 I just scored some Don Cherry and the NCAA 08 final + semi (both BC games). I think I will visit those abit to see if I can get a fix that way. I hope all things go well Chadd, Im expecting bad news once I get my test results in from the Xray+Ultrasound checks.

I hope all things go well Chadd, Im expecting bad news once I get my test results in from the Xray+Ultrasound checks. The wife pushed me into going to the walk in clinic tonight. Partial tear of the rotator cuff and a particularly nasty skin infection under my arm. I have to line up an appointment with a specialist and get an MRI before they will decide if I need to go under the knife or if I can get by with a shot and physical therapy. Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 At least you get to watch a real good team play some hockey. Where'd you score the games on tape?A friend of mine taped them off ESPN here and the Cherry was DL'ed. The wife pushed me into going to the walk in clinic tonight. I have to line up an appointment with a specialist and get an MRI before they will decide if I need to go under the knife or if I can get by with a shot and physical therapy.Im hoping the same. The GP beleives no RC damage, but the Ultrasound will be the definative judge. I hate this injury, it took soooo long to heal the 1st time.

Please, it was a snide quip for these guys with medical problems that keep posting or rambling on about them. While it does indeed suck, I dont post about all the bad things that might or might not happen in my life. You dont hear Drewhunz talking about his shoulder injury or how he was under the knife a few months ago...Nothing against the OP, sucks your shoulder is bummed, enjoy the time off to do other things. Spending less time on the forum might help your forget about hockey.Zach
Spreedizzle 1 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 If you have a friend or two in the area to play with....then I would pursue getting a bubble hockey table. Always great fun surrounding those.
BuddehJuS 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I can feel your pain, I had to have my appendix removed which = no hockey for at least a month. I've been playing AT LEAST twice a week for over a year and a half and now I must take a break. :( It bites, but the vicodin is helping....
