BREAKING NEWS: New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow announced today that Ted Nolan will not return next season as the team's head coach. Nolan had one season remaining on his contract. Details to follow...

WTF?!?!?!

There must be some major personality clashes with Nolan....anyone know the story here. First Buffalo (and that one has been partly documented) now this?!?!?

So, who doesn't have a coach right now....Just the Isle and Kings?

Any chance Nolan goes to LA...or is he back on the shelf, on the "Do Not Hire" list?

This could just be a similar parting as the one with Neil Smith, I suspect Isles management just want puppet heads while they want control everything. You hire a coach to coach. They might as well just name Garth Snow the new coach.

I'm glad they got Streit, but overall I'm pretty disappointed so far with the Islanders off-season with all the available players out there. I feel like I'm watching Bridgeport whenever I head out to the Coliseum.

Sounds like it was just a split as to how each party was thinking. Snow was thinking about the long-term health of the organization and Nolan was thinking about trying to make the playoffs this year. I can't really blame Nolan for wanting veteran players to help him make the playoffs, because even if he had gone along with Snow's youth movement idea there is a pretty good chance that the team misses the playoffs again this year and he loses his job anyway. He advocated the strategy that gave him the best chance to keep his job. I also can't blame Snow for wanting to go with kids, the team needs to develop its young talent if its ever going to be a contender. No amount of veteran talent will turn this team into anything more than a #7 or 8 seed.

This just makes the Isles look like even more of a laughing stock.

The 'philosophical differences' are a joke, you can say Ted didn't play the kids all you want, but you know what? THERE WERE NO QUALITY KIDS TO PLAY! And what happened to young players earning their ice time? Its not like the Islanders are stocked with young up and coming talent, the Island cannot be mistaken for Chicago or St. Louis. Ted got the most out of his players and put out a squad that would compete.

No coach or player is going to want to come to Long Island and deal with Snow or Wang, the Islanders are a joke plain and simple.

That wang or wong shouldn't be an owner. the guy is a f**kin tool!

Garth Snow might as well be Charles Wang, Jr. And you know what they say:

(wait for it....)

Two Wangs don't make a right!

I really amuse myself sometimes!! :D

I agree that Nolan got the most out the team he had, good luck to whoever takes over his position, they're going to need it.

Paul Maurice is my call.

Maybe Pat Quinn?

Not if they want to go youth...Quinn is a Veterans coach.

Quinn is also very selective on where he'll go. He turned down jobs in Boston and Dallas (in a management position I think). I doubt he'd take a job for the Islanders.
