1993 CCM Catalog

Recommended Posts

The 1993 CCM catalog featured the best cover ever with the Tacks skate evolution. The first Tacks RBK Pump skate was introduced.

Why did "The Pump" fail the first time around? Or was it originally a short lived partnership between CCM & Reebok on purpose?

I did skate in the 1969 Tacks that are on the cover. I also had a pair of of 72 Super Tacks which have the felt/leather tongue not the nylon tongue on the 1975 model on the cover. I have the ST boots still. The steel is gone because I switched them out for original black Tuuk 2000 back in 1976.

Thanks for posting this DarkStar50. Those pictures are bringing back memories from the past.

I still have my pair of 652 "The Pump" Tacks.

Does the pump still work?

I also had those 1989 651 Custom Tacks with vacu-bag molding process. They were actually the first hockey skate to be baked- with a heat gun.

The 1979 Gold T Super Tacks did have great look to them but the interior did not hold up well. As I remember the boots were tanks and got pretty heavy by a third period soaking.

The 1983 Ultra Tacks were really poor. The interior ankle featured protruding L shaped foam pads that either fit your foot perfectly or not at all. I remember guys bringing them in for sharpening that had taken X-acto knives to the L shaped foam pad to cut it away. Another tank from CCM.

During this time, the early 80s, CCM was losing skate market share to Bauer and Daoust at the pro level. The Bauer Custom 100 was in the pipe line then. Paul Coffey wore the Custom 100. The Daoust 301 was running strong with Gretzky, Messier, and Denis Savard wearing them. These were lean years for CCM Tacks skates. It was tough to catch up once all the Bauer babies kept getting older and wearing nothing but Bauer.

The holder from the 79-83 era was god awful.

Growing up (late 70's early 80's) I had a pair of CCM Mustangs with black tuuks and loved em. It was years before I found a better skate then that.

Unfortunately, a few years late I ended up with a pair of CCM Chargers with that dreadful holder.

DS - I too had a pair of Vacu Tacks. Decent skate, but never fit me right.

I'd like to say thanks also. Being an old guy as well, these bring back some great memories.
