The most tragic thing about this story is that not a single person tried to aid the victim during the attack, or subdue the attacker.

No kidding. I have never been put into a situation like that, but I would like to believe that I would have the bravery to do something about it. I hope that I never have to find out if I do, or have to live with myself after being in a situation such as this and doing nothing.

It is not as easy when you are scared for your own life. It is like a bank robbery, people hear about them, and always think that if they were put into that situation, that they would do something. I always thought that I would be the one to do something. But I was put into that situation two summers ago, and your adrenaline kicks in. You just want to do everything you can too keep to yourself. You are scared, because you think something could happen to yourself.

It is a shame Canada does not have the death penalty. This guy will probably get life in prison, with no chance of parole(which is good), but personally, I think the bible is right. - "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth"

You wonder what makes people do things like this...there's a lot of messed up people in the world. Very sad to hear something like this happen.

hey! you can only tell a guy to keep his stick on the ice so many times!

chef ducky what happened with u and a bank robbery if u don't mind telling me

I was 12, and me and my dad went into the bank to open a account for myself. There were many people in their, just chatting away, and a guy in a bandanna came in and was very like quiet until he got up to the counter. Me and my dad were on the closet till to him, he had the gun held in his hand on the little table next to my dads back. He was just saying stuff like "empty the tills" and "no dye packs". He was very silent about it until he was leaving and yelled "NO COPS" than ran out the door. It was very scary for me I guess, because I had never really seen a loaded gun, other than on a police officer in his holder. Afterwards, we had to stay at the bank for 2 hours!

I think it's easy to say someone should have jumped in...apparently US media is ripping Canadians because no one jumped in (I waqs told...havent'[ seen teh US coverage).

I think with a clean shot from behind, I might have been able to get up the sack to jump the guy...but really, totally unprovoked, guy gets up and CALMLY starts hacking the person next to him to death....anyone who jumps in is likely to become a second victim, 'cause knife guy is a f**king whack job capable of anything.

So, unless I've got a clean shot from behind, I'm probably bailing too.

im from winnipeg and the stories in the paper this morning made me want to puke. The paper interviewed passengers on the bus and the story honestly seems like something out of a movie. In one instance 5 passengers and the driver had to hold the bus door closed from outside because the guy was trying to get at them.

US news that is ripping us canadians apart for "not helping" should give their head a shake and have some empathy for the passengers on board. These busses arnt very big and when doin 100 km down the highway i think it might be hard for someone to hit a guy square on with an object, especially after witnessing a decapitation and probably being in shock and scared for their life

It all depends. If I knew the guy had died, I would have bailed. If he still had life in him, I would have tried to do something. The cop in my situation said if you are going to try and do anything, get his arms and control him down to the ground, like a citizens arrest!

alright smart ass,

if you read it I said in MY SITUATION (which included nothing about Rambo Knives, what so ever) you grab the persons arms and hold them close like a bear hug, and bring them down to the ground. That way if a shot was fired, it would have hit the carpet. Obviously a Rambo Knife would be different, yet you could still use the same tactic. And do you not perhaps think that their might have been someone else on the bus, that may have been bigger as age has no bearing to do with anything.

The guy definately DOES NOT deserve a trial. That is why I wish Canada would have the death penalty! The sad part is he is only getting charged with Second Degree murder!

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, not worth thinking about let alone arguing over a message board about. It seems the other people on the bus were lucky, R.I.P to the guy involved.

Some of the secondary reports are saying that they didn't abandon the victim...a trucker who stopped and one passenger went to go toward the attacker, but he turned the knife toward them and forced them back...

I believe another said as he left the bus he turned to go back and the guy had stopped screaming and gone totally silent, so he knew he was dead and figured risking his own life would be foolish.

They disabled the bus and trapped the guy on, so at least he couldn't escape.

All in all, I think they did the best they could given the circumstances.

If the guy across the way just started hacking away at someone randomly, I find it VERY hard to belive anybody would play hero and tear this person apart with their bare hands. He had a knife and started stabbing the guy apparently 40 or 50 times, its not like he stabbed him once and the rest of the passengers left him there to die. Unfortunate nobody had a weapon to help at the time.

If that happened in the states there would of been at least one person with a gun to shoot the guy.

Not necessarily but in the States someone would have done something and not shit their pants.

I disagree.

This happened in a very crowded amusement park and no one came to help.
