Would you be able to cut the laces easily if you needed your skates taken off in the event of an injury? I know I've needed this done a few times where I was injured and untying wasn't an option, and it would've been extremely uncomfortable if someone had to jostle my leg around to get a skate off.

Sounds like a bait and switch to me as well. I am in Texas, and deal with players from all over Texas, and have not seen nor heard of them. Whatever...

He said it was part of testing, plus who would be bragging about their laces? New stick, gloves or skates yeah, but laces???

who cares?

maybe it's bad MSH etiquette to be subversive about this kind of thing, IF it was in fact him - but regardless, he's not annoying us talking about how great they are, or anything like that. besides, it's just laces.

if they're a good product, than it's good to get the word out. if they're not, well i'm sure we'll hear about it here too.

i am personally curious about these cause i tend to go through laces pretty quickly. mine are always getting cut by skates. but again, they are just laces.

anyway, just my two cents (USD). and it's not directed to any of you haters specifically, just in general :]

I received 1 sample lace(1 lace, not a pair) in the mail yesterday. If my knife could rip the lace in two pieces, I think a skate blade could do the same thing. The lace also has a yellow tint every 1/4", must be the Dupont patent Kevlar, but it makes the lace look like a dog pissed on it. The lace also has a metal tip. That is a USA Hockey rulebook no-no. Suggested retail is $20 un-waxed and $22 waxed.

I'm not sure if I was clear. The $20 solution did not work. My knife DID cut the "Unbreakable Lace" in two pieces, as would a skate blade.

I sell a pair of "Unbreakable Laces" for $20 in the shop, first game Jr gets a skate blade ripping/cutting/tearing his "Unbreakable Lace", I get HockeyDad in my face in two seconds back in the pro shop, demanding his money back. Who is the bigger fool now for buying this product in the first place? Pro shop guy(me) or HockeyDad? Thanks but no thanks. Unfortunately, there is an implication through the use of the word "Unbreakable" that the lace will never rip in two. There is the laboratory for testing product and then there is the real world where the product is used. I work in the real world.

There is no prohibition on a lace with a metal tip and has not been one for as long as I can recall. 305a references protective equipment and is to be used to prevent players from wearing equipment that will cause injury to others.

The use of pads or protectors made of metal, or of any other material likely to cause injury to a player, is prohibited.

Good to know. I just bought Gorilla Laces (based on your recommendation  ) for my sons, who start hockey on Saturday.

I better tell Dave where to send my commission check. ;)

Seriously though, I really like them and the beauty of the black ones is that they don't look dirty after months of use.

I wouldn't care about having an unbreakable lace, I couldn't imagine using the same pair of laces for over a year. I change mine before they break, when they get all twisted and round and dirty..it's 4bux, not a big deal to me. However I see most people break their laces while tying them up, when they're in a hurry to get on the ice, thats a pain in the butt...so advertising a "stronger" lace may have it's advantages as well

Did the gorillas feel any different than regular flat laces? I am thinking of getting some based on the reviews...

I couldn't imagine using the same pair of laces for over a year.

I used the same pair for over 10 yrs and could have continued had I not voluntarily switched them out. Simple $2.50 bauer waxed laces....

Maybe I just got lucky. To me there was just never the need to swap them out. There were signs of wear, but nothing that would lead be me to believe that they would fail. But I don't quite understand the $5 comment? I saw no need to buy laces each month so I don't support my LHS?

I ordered a pair of these laces. I received them today. I like them. My boot is tighter. It is a little harder to take off, but take the good with the bad. I would rather have the tighter fit. I respect this guy and company. I love the metal on the ends. He has passion and was a nice guy. The color is fine. Actually looks kinda cool on my skates, just my opinion. I like the product and will continue to use it and update you.

They can be like another brand you have pepsi and coke don't you?......and because of this reason you will see improvement. More competition the better the products.

no, sorry if you saw that as a personal attack

laces and tape i believe are the most assured business a LHS has (everyone needs take regardless of composite/wood...everyone needs laces regardless of skate brand...) but i was just saying that i feel like $5 for my LHS to profit on laces is my money being well spent...

I've used wax laces religiously for years, never liked "plain" laces. The gorilla laces don't stretch much at all over time and are holding up very well. I haven't seen any cuts yet and the tips are still in great shape. My biggest problem with laces has always been with broken tips.

Do the round laces untie themselves? How do they compare in terms of stiffness and wax to the Grafs? I'll keep my eye out...

Gorilla laces are not wax, they're the first non-wax lace that I ever liked.
