Teppo Numminen and Montreal Hockey

Recommended Posts

Kind of a 2 part thread. First I did not know that Teppo Numminen owned the majority share of Montreal Hockey. With that being said; why does he wear gear other than his own. Not a good rep of his product line.....

Second, after going to the Montreal site I have to say; WTF is with the colors available on their stuff?

The technology seems good from the site but please enlighten me on this company and the products. sticks and shafts inparticular.

Thanks in advance

So the way it works in the NHL is that you pay a fee for each item. Gloves, stick, skates, helmet, etc...?

Tell me this. Are the products any good? And whats with the colors???

Happy belated Birthday JR and please tell me; Are the shafts and gloves any good or just another of many products?

I read about it and it seems like a good product but where can you see it to even get a feel for it? I saw that there were no reviews about it either. God I hate when this happens. LOL!

No, companies pay the NHL per category for their product placement.

What he said

Goaltender equipment, player helmet, gloves, skates, sticks (pants?). 5 categories, something like $50,000 per category or something like that.

That's why you see old Cooper, Jofa, and other protective equipment- no money to pay since it's not 'visible' logos. And companies can get away with small logos. Other times it's players using old equipment and the visibility isn't a concern of the league (goaler skates, players using old Jofa pants, Bauer branded equipment sneaking in). That's why all of the original Warrior sticks were blacked out, and any Busch sticks that were used, and why Jagr's gloves have the logo half-assedly painted over.

I've used Montreal's older Nitro sticks. I like them a lot, love the feel and finish. Haven't had an opportunity to see their new jazz. The gloves Perani's had were all pretty nice too, I don't recall what model, but they were like 4-rolls IIRC.

RustPot please fill me in on the Nitro sticks.

On another note: I was wondering how Maltby got away with his old Bauer 7000's during the playoffs.

Look for a graffics change on their product (sticks) this fall, just working through the old stuff, great technology, but, that said very limited budget for trying to get names using the product.

I don't know why that would be a problem seeing as how it's the same company. Dubinsky uses a Bauer 4000 helmet.

Nike Bauer paying their dues in helmet and skates probably qualifies those items.

I remember watching a game in the late 90s when Vic had just decided not to pay a bunch of dues. All of the equipment was pretty hastily spray painted.

I hope they become more available to at least get a look at. As far as the graphics. I would hope for their sake they change them. I mean; Did they go with some cheap close out paint at Kmart or something.

They pay per brand logo. Bauer and NikeBauer are 2 different logos. Same thing with THC having to pay more for the boxy CCM and the newer vector CCM logos.

A2- I owned an 8500 OPS. I liked the sandy feel, traditional boxy shaft, very good control, feel and balance. A little heavier than today's standard, but nothing big. The blade felt like plastic but performed amazingly. It was too stiff for me (~95) and I traded it on here (I think to Remman). Absolute tank though, nothing but scuffs from some hard use, only a scratch from a skate stepping on the blade.

I currently own a 6500 shaft, it feels almost identical, save it feels a tad small in my hands, I suspect it's got smaller dimensions as it's an intermediate flex. Overall I like the stick though, a little too much torque, but I'm using a Lang blade that's longer than anything retail. My stick handling is better than with the AK27 shafts I had (those were concave shafts, rubber grip though). I got that used here.

I had a 9500 OPS for a short time. Felt really nice for balance and weight, but the finish was lacking a bit. I ordered it from my LHS and there was a mixup that resulted in getting the same flex that was too stiff in a curve I didn't want, so I traded it here before using it.

Could the argument be made that Bauer is part of "NikeBauer"?

I don't know about that. Chances are the player was fined $1000 and the team covered it or something like that.

I know Bauer is in the name, but if they were anal enough to not let CCM and CCM coexist, why would they let Bauer, NikeBauer and JBauer all exist? Maybe if NBH pays one fee for the NikeBauer and JBauer logos they'd be fine.

I'll just stop there and wait for JR or SRI to come chime in, they're probably in the know much more than I am ;)

(By the way, JBauer is my attempt at making a Nike swoosh)

I had a few of the Montreal Nitro Lites - well balanced, good feel and sweet kick through the shafts, but the blades were pretty soft right from the get-go and only got worse.
