One95 problems

Recommended Posts

Hey I'm not sure if someone has asked about this but I'm coming off some reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. I've been skating for about 3 weeks in some 9k's that I've had for about 6 months but I recently bought a pair of Nike Bauer Supreme One95's and I'm having some major problems in my arch. Everything felt fine with it in my 9k's and after about 2 hours in the 95's this problem started. Its a sharp pain in my arch everytime i push off. I got some Superfeet insoles this morning and tried them out earlier tonight and the problem was still there. Any ideas?

I've tried both. I tied them really tight and it was fine for about 10 minutes and it came back. And i left them pretty loose and the pain was immediate.

I'm going to go with the One95 not fitting your foot correctly. Did you buy them blind or wear them in the store? What surgery did you have, would it still be healing and you shouldn't be skating?

I have superfeet for my running shoes and the guy at runner's Roost said to wear them for 1 hour the first day, 2 on the second, etc. because your feet need to adjust a bit. after a week you should try skating again. Also, maybe try the 9k's with/without the superfeet.

Rustpot: I wore them in the store for a while and tried on almost every skate. I had a reconstruction of my heel bone so i have about 15 screws going in the side of my heel from the outside, yet the pain is on the inside. Also, i dislocated my peroneal tendons but the doctors elected to leave them as they are becuase they are in no danger of tearing. I dont feel this at all though. And the doctor said i can start skating. This injury happened back in March so all of my bone is healed its just a matter of lack of strength throughout my foot.

And everyone else, I'll try that but this pain started before i even got the superfeet. i have the blue super feet in my shoes and got the black ones for my skates. But ya ill try to let them break in

i would definitely talk to your doctor about something like this. they would best know how to deal with those types of issues. my guess would be something like plantar fascitis, in which case you would need to stretch your foot out a little bit, but just ask your doctor to be sure

if perhaps your one95's are a D width, and the RBK's an E width, perhaps the one95s arent wide enough?

My Vector skates feel great until I skate/stand in them for 10 minutes. Undetectable in the store, but it's made skating a pain for a while now. They're not deep enough and the forefoot is too narrow, causing my arch to try and curve toward the outside of the foot, very painful- I have to retie after taking a few warmup laps and I skip 3 of the first 5 eyelets toward the toe to alleviate pressure. Too cheap and don't skate often enough to justify new skates, plus nowhere to get fit in size 11+ skates.

Both are D widths. the weird thing is in the middle of a little drop in session i switched back to the 9k's to see if it was just the skates and it hurt even more. But walking around i dont feel a thing

i would definitley check with the doctor then. likely a ligament/tendon issue. dont want it to turn into anything that may be potentially serious. the sooner it is taken care of the better!

did you ever get the pain in the 9k's, prior to having used the one95s?

it would seem then that maybe the one95's just arent the right boot for you. something about the fit must just not be right.perhaps the narrower heel is putting pressure on ligaments/tendons, or a nerve in your foot.

you might of injered your foot, if you have a lack of strength in your foot, it's easy to damage it since your foot cant protect itself...

I just had a MBA implant put in my foot and even new shoes hurt...

See your doc, the new skates might have brused a nerve in your arch and the skate is pinching it...

+1 See your doc. he should have a better idea of whats going on in there. chances are the foot is still recovering and it would be silly to re- injure that area

Have you thought that the skates might be too stiff? It may hurt because your foot/ankle area lost a lot of strength during the recovering process. I would try skating in your 9ks again. If it hurts, go to you doctor. If it doesn't then it is the pair of One95s.

I brought my skates into my physical therapy today and he said its most likely nothing to do with the boot pushing on the area but most likely the muscle in my foot that connects to my big toe is fatigued and its forcing the little muscles to do all the work and they're just being over worked. I'm gonna take a couple days off and see how it is. Thanks a ton for the help though

Just curious why you used the black Superfeet in your skates rather than the grey or yellow ones?

From the Superfeet website's Q&A:

Q: Can I use the Black insoles in ice-skates?

A:

The Black insole can fit into some ice-skates. One problem may be that the insole is too wide to fit down into the skate. The Superfeet Black insole was not designed for use in ice skates - we suggest using the Superfeet Yellow insole which was specifically designed for application in hockey and figure skates.

I've had the grey ones in my 8090s and they were a tremendous help. I will be buying a pair of yellows for my One95s as soon as I come across some extra cash because I love the support they give me.

What is your arch shape? Flat? High? I'm guessing flat if the RBKs don't hurt.

Thats the problem. My good foot is pretty average. Not very high but not flat. But my bad foot is pretty flat. Also the thing is where the arch lines up is a little different for each foot. My left foot is a full size and a half smaller than my right (bad foot). Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Also I'm not sure if I mentioned this but in the middle of one of the sessions when my arch was really starting to hurt I threw on my RBK's with just the stock foot beds and it hurt even more.

And ya the blacks fit perfectly in my skates so I don't see why not.
