mik3 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 The first choice was 185lb Frank Shamrock. That organization is run so terribly. They ran a 205 out there and he still rocked Kimbo.
Viking 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 I sincerely hope this means that the Kimbo Slice thing is over with. I think MMA is barbaric, retarded, and a sorry excuse for a sport; but he still brings it down a peg lower than that somehow.

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Kimbo is too popular, he may be 'done' from a competitive stand point....but he'll get at least one more big fight. Wasn't much of a surprise though, that guy they brought in to replace Shamrock was easily better than Shamrock is currently. He'll knock his ass out again if there is a rematch. mik3 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Brett Rogers is the biggest loser in all this. They could have used Kimbo to make a star out of Rogers.

Out of Samurai hand-to-hand fighting techniques, Judo was developed... So absolutely. You don't go to a bookstore to learn Judo(or other techniques), you learn the culture, along with how and why the moves were performed the way they are. In a true judo throw, you typically grab the gee, WHY? Because the use of armor... This is also why they throw and submit(disable the opponent), because striking is useless. The United States is one of the few countries that look down upon(as a whole) martial arts for fighting. mik3 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 American MMA fans, for the most part, are dumb meatheads. Japanese MMA fans hate the elbowing and shit like that. All I need to figure out an MMA crowd is see how they react to some sort of roll out of an armbar or something life that. If there's no reaction, then I zone the crowd out, 'cause chance are they're just there to see someone get punched in the face.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Hense Mixed Martial Arts. To compete you need to be well versed in other disciplines. A pure Judo master isn't going to do any better than a pure boxer in MMA because its a mix of stand up AND ground fighting. That does not change the origin of the style or discredit the vast number of Judo fighters that have transitioned to MMA. It forces those fighters to branch out to other disciplines that more-than-likely come from other countries.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 It is legitimate martial arts. It's not unmixed martial arts. It's MIXED Martial Arts. It's an evolution. Brazilian jujitsu is considered a different style than traditional jujitsu when it's nearly identical. In fact, jujitsu and judo are very similar, as are many kicks in Tae kwon do and kung fu. MMA is the blending of martial arts, it's an evolution of the fighting world. Now these fighters aren't spending their lives fighting single styles, they're traveling to other countries and learning other arts. 20 years ago, you wouldnt see karate/judo crossover... Now you're seeing muay tai, jujitsu, greco-roman wresting crossover on a regular basis.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 ...Because you cant appreciate what is going on. Show someone that has never seen hockey before and what does it look like? A bunch of guys chasing a black disc and hitting each other. What about baseball? A bunch of guys standing around, waiting to chase a ball. You're not appreciating the technical aspects of leverage, quickness, strength and deceptiveness that it takes to just get someone to the mat... AND the YEARS it takes to train yourself to react so you're NOT knocked out (or submitted) in say, 14 seconds like some meathead.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Well if you can't appreciate ANY sport, it's going to look ridiculous or not make any sense.I'm sure there is some skill involved in curling but to me it looks like some guy sliding a rock down ice for no good reason. Do I say these guys/girls that play this sport or are fans of the sport are meatheads or rock chuckers? No, I respect the fact that they can appreciate the sport.
