Christian Hockey making a comeback?

Recommended Posts

We have a very very small shop in colorado here at the ice ranch and they exclusively sell christian/harrow stick. There is a coach around here that swears by them, as well as his kid and most of his son's teammates. The ops's are the torch. There is one that retails for $75, $100, and $175. I've seen kids go from a s17 back to a christian ops. I don't have the money to take a risk on a pricey stick like that, but maybe in the future...

I would love to find some blades in the same style as the older models. I also remember wanting one of those 2 colored goalie sticks really badly when I was younger. Belfour used christian sticks alot, if I could get some made with the same font/lettering style I would place an order asap.

Has anyone ordered Christian wood blades from the new owners/company?

If so, let us know about the customer service and quality of the blades. Also, what model of wood blades are they -- the "clear" with black or red letters (like the Sergei pic), or the "blue" DiamonLite blades?

Thanks!

I recently order some custom wood sticks from Christian. They should arrive within the next 2 weeks.

It is confirmed that they have a new factory in Roseau, MN. I saw a picture of the new factory on the vintageminnesotahockey.com site.

A press release in the local MN newspaper and radio indicated that there are several investors/partners involved in the new Christian Hockey (one being a player from the Blackhawks).

Anyway, I don't work for them and I don't want to violate any Copyright rules -- so I would just recommend doing a search on "Christian sticks northern minnesota" to see direct Associated Press information.

I can write more after the sticks arrive.

I just received 6 custom Christian wood sticks -- I am happy with the product.

Some thoughts on the transaction/product:

1) Longer taper/thinner hosel than many wood sticks and definitely thinner than previous Christians (when under Harrow ownership). This will probably improve performance (lighter/more whip).

2) Lighter than expected; not as boxy as previous Christians and the handle region was even slightly routed/shaved.

3) Christian customized the blades/paint/stickers/text font as I indicated. For example, I wanted graphics from the early/mid 90's.

4) Delivered to my address within the stated 3-4 weeks.

5) Blades have stacked ash with the newer Diamond Design. Seemed to have decent amount/extra epoxy underneath the blade. The new order form made it sound like you could order extra blade fiberglas if desired. KEITH, that should make your blades extra stiff if that is what you like. My previous custom Christian blades without the extra glass seemed stiff enough for me -- so I didn't order extra glass.

6) Price met expectations (e.g. I was charged less for some of the all ash shafts vs. the fiberglas-coated shafts that were ordered, which is what I expected/hoped).

I would recommend Christian Hockey if you're okay working with a smaller company (sometimes tough to get in immediate contact with them -- they may not have a designated Customer Service Department) and like good custom sticks.

What are the options on the woods now? Can you get an extra stiff blade like in the old days?

On the blade order form, you can specify extra fiberglass for $0.50 extra per blade. I've been contemplating getting some custom blades made up, it's just a fair bit of change to drop all at once.

Bringing this back up to see if anyone has an answer. Does anyone know if Christian lowered their custom blade minimum order amount? It used to be 6, but on their new sites custom blade page, the order amount starts at 3. I couldn't find an email address to ask them, so maybe I will have to call if no one knows for sure.

Wow - I have been toying with the idea of trying to get them to make my "dream" curve actually exist. Now that the order limit is 3 I might just have to take the plunge.

I picked up a pair of the old "Christian" blade pattern tapered blades on eBay for ~$20 shipped for the pair. Needless to say it was a steal! The blades seem great so far.

I assume they will expand their curve offerings. I ordered some tapered Drury curves from them in the past. The curve was way off. I understand there is variability in wood, but this was too much. The blade was straight. I couldnt use them. I would consider giving them another try though. It's hard to find tapered wood blades. Plus I pull for the little guys.

I'd maybe take the plunge as well but the blades are ~$40 blade with shipping and tax figured in. Not worth it for a blade that will last a week or two max.

The player with a ownership interest in Christian Hockey is Dustin Byfuglien. It was in the the local paper a few weeks ago

I kinda thought the same thing, but if you have them add the extra fiberglass, maybe the blades will last a bit longer?

In regard to the question on whether they offer 80-90 flex custom or stock sticks. Go the to "ACV" sticks on the Website - as they are in that flex range. The ACV veneer stick is similar in flex/feel as the Sher-Wood 5030.

I've ordered extra fiberglas in the past (few years ago) and it does seem to help with durability & stiffness. The extra fiberglas was on the backside of the blade & underneath the diamond sock.

What kind of cheap new blades is Flo Hockey 7 using if they only last 1-2 weeks? It is unlikely that these custom blades will break in the hosel region quickly as they have a black fiberglas re-inforced hosel. The sweet-spot of the blade will wear after repeated use, but not within 2 weeks (even with a 80mph+ slapper).

do they do custom blades in that model? it looks like they'll only do custom patterns on the 100 flex stick?

I've been buying Harrow shafts until Christian makes composite ones. I saw demo ones at the Lets Play Hockey show and see they have them on their new site now and I'm still not impressed. Shaft looks cool being all black but the greyish "tribal" graphics and logo are TERRIBLE. They need to do it up old school with the original logo and graphics....

I just got three customs in a 4.5 lie. Bye bye Sher-Wood Coffey curve. No more pulling shots hight and to the right. No more smashed heels.

Wood blades certainly aren't the most durable, but I don't see them lasting only a week unless you play a ton and are really hard on your sticks / blades. Durability seems fine to me so far (in comparison to the 100% sher-wood sticks that I have used in the past)
