I love mine! I do hear a chirp about it at almost every league game i play. But I love being able to organize my gear. I'm a definite gear who so I'm very anal about having everything in good condition and in it's place. A bonus is I can air my gear out in my small downtown apartment. I place the bag in my spare washroom and open the zippers. Skates get hung upside down on my 2 sticks that fit in the side slot. A negative is they are akward to get in and out of the trunk (i use an SUV) and you have to get to the rink before the rest of your team otherwise there is no way to navigate your way through the log jam of traditional style bags on the floor...

I for one won't be going back to a traditional bag. I'm used to the "holy shit this guy brought a locker with him" lol.

I just saw these the other night at the Pro Shop. I honestly thought it was a goalie bag, it's friggin huge! The shop was closed so I was just looking through the glass, didn't get to check it out. Now, it all makes sense.

I like the organization aspect, I get made fun of for how organized my pack is. However, I do have a hard time believing gear actually airs out in there. From the pic above there isn't really any room for air circulation, but it's bound to be better than nothing.

Being a hockey backpack using loser I can't say anything negative about the Towa.

hey orange. you can't see it in the pic above but there are mesh vents built into the back of the bag. so if you don't jam it super full you can actually get some air circulation. once i come home from a game this is what i do. i put my skates upside down on my two sticks and pull out the superfeet. i take my pants and hang them off the back of the bag using the clip and strap on the top. then i take my should pads and hang them off one of the metal rings on the side on top. i leave my shins on the bottom tier. i take my helmet out of it's bag and turn it upside to allow air flow. then my gloves go where my skates were and my elbows stay in the middle tier. everything dries out overnight with no forced air circulation. I live in a very dry climate though so adding a fan would def speed things up.

Talked to their sales manager the other day and they are selling tons of them.

I don't doubt it. Darned things were popular last Christmas, and are just popular this time around.

It looks like you have one of the older models with the 2-piece door. I put the shoulder pads at the bottom since I put those on last.

Are these popping up everywhere else? Here in houston, it seems like every mite/squirt team has 5 or 6 of these in a lockerroom. A year ago I saw maybe one or two of them every now and then... I can't believe how fast they've exploded, it's like Zuca bags for hockey players. Anyhow, my 8 year old wants one, but before I drop $160 on a bag, I was curious if anyone out there has had one for an extended amount of time and could speak to how durable they are?

+1!!

Same experience to a T!!!! I got mine for Xmas this year. Love it. And I have no problems getting it in and out of a 2-door Mustang! You can usually find me sitting in the corner (where no one can ever fit because of their traditional bag) with my "locker" opened right be side me! Thumbs up Grit!

i think i've had my bag for about a year and a half now.

overall its holding up well. there's a slight tear on the bottom where the edge contacts the ground when upright. zippers are still functional.

i take pretty good care of my bag, it sits in the back of my hatchback, the worst it gets is going up about 3 flights of concrete stairs every few times a week.

I'm sorry but I thought these were for youth players. Wheel bag with tribal graphics and a stick holder?

If you can tie your own skates, you can carry you own bag. No wonder half the kids I see at rinks are obese. This only adds to the laziness of the youth in North America.

I remember in my Jr. days that my goalie bag was so heavy that my arm would go numb if we had a walk from back of a parking lot to the rink. There was no such thing as a wheelie bag.

I know I'm going to take heat for this, but we play one of the toughest sports in the world and we can't carry our bags from the car to the rink. Man up.

You ever think the people who are obese and going to the rink are playing hockey in an attempt to not be obese anymore?

Don't generalize, and if you don't like it, keep your opinion to yourself.

Full disclosure: My bag does not have wheels.

This (although having hockey as your only avenue to lose weight probably isn't a good idea).

I wouldn't use one myself, but then again I'm not an older guy with a creaky back playing in a "friendly" league, nor do I have to deal with extremely small lockerrooms where space is at a premium.

Point is, there are a lot of good reasons for people to use one. If I still played net I would definitely go for the goal version just to save on space in the lockerroom. The attitude that is displayed about these bags is often just an example of pride and tradition taking a dump on practicality.

I do hate tribal graphics though :-/

I'll justify my reasons (not like I'm obligated to, but I think it's necessary) as to why I ordered one:

I've got tons of bags (3 MSH carry bags, Orlando Solar Bears team bag, Vapor 10 [best retail bag ever made IMO], but after a horrendous wedding trip about 8 years ago in which I tried to take a regular bag, garment bag, hockey equipment bag and hockey stick bag from one end of an airport to another to a shuttle bus to a car rental, I decided I needed to have a wheeled bag in my collection for those types of trips.

But what happens in humid Florida is that if it's not good to leave your stuff in bags without ventilation. My TPS Response wheel bag (which held a stash of backup equipment) dry-rotted in the garage, ruining a pair of gloves and half of the bag, so I had to throw it away. I then dumped that stuff into another bag, but still needed a wheeled bag.

I had met Greg at GRIT a few years back and every year I say hi to him at the tradeshows. I think the bag is a great concept, and I also like the new ones he has coming out this year.

As far as my gamer set, my option was to leave the equipment on my hanging tree in the garage. That started to get a bit nasty with dust and bugs, so I figured that getting one (MSH colors of course) would be an easy way to keep my gamer set organized and protect it against the elements. I'm planning on moving, and I won't have much space, so it will come in handy again. And I'll have that wheeled bag again just in case. But the cool thing is, I don't even have to put the stuff on the rack after I'm done skating. And that alone has made it my local bag. Plus, admit it, it's neat.

Yep, that's my reason for getting one for my son here in Houston. Even though he doesn't sweat as much as an adult, his stuff gets rank really quick if it's accidently left in the car.

Is the HT4 the one coming out this year? I see that one on monkey, but they don't seem to list it on the US grit site. Curious what is the justification for the jump for $160 to $220 from the HT1 to the HT4.

Not hating on the Zuca bag, it's just EVERY figure skating girl has one. I bought one for my daughter, along with a few dresses, skates, etc... $500 and then she quit a few months later.

Does it really bother you to see people with wheelie bags? Is that really a concern of yours? I carry my stuff because I can, but I don't see what difference it makes if someone uses a wheelie bag.

Also, I REALLY doubt half of the hockey players you see are obese.

I've had mine going on two years now, still holding up great. Only problem it ever had was a rivet that came out early on (must not have been installed right). Grit sent me a screw to put in place of it and I've had no problems since.

As to the haters out there, oh well. Any chirps I get are out of jealousy - people love the bag. And for the record, it does have a shoulder strap, and I DO carry it when there is slush all over the parking lot or the room is too full of floppy old carry bags for me to wheel it.

on my son's team we have about 3-4 kids with these types of bag. personally i just find them too big both in the room and for getting in your vehicle. reebok has one that looks a little more compact that looks kinda cool, just don't know how its laid out inside or if its big enough

I personally love the concept. And I am kind of jealous, because they do look so convenient. I've yet to meet a person who has one who has any complaints.

I just can't bite the bullet. I feel, and it's only a personal thing, that I should carry my equipment. That, and unless the frame was titanium, I'd destroy it because I am incredibly hard on my bags. Getting one of those in and out of my car would be a pain in the ass, too.

But, I've never given someone grief for having one. In fact, I was thinking about doing a travel hockey tournament in a bit and didn't even think about how much more convenient a wheeled bag would be. I may have to get one simply for that.

And, if everyone in the locker room had one of those bags, there'd actually be a lot more room to walk around. It's the combination of carry bags/towers that makes rooms difficult to navigate.

Oh, you're one of those guys? A REAL man. You walked 10 miles uphill both ways to school in 8 feet of snow, right? In MY day blah blah blah. There are a lot of people who could find these bags useful. Not everyone is an 18 year old superstar.

I think it depends on the team. In my experience with my kids youth teams, it would probably be more difficult to navigate if every kid had one of these. With kids, parents bring them at different times, so you usually have a third of the team dressed and out of the lockerroom as the last half of kids shows up. With carry/wheel bags, they get pushed under the benches (Grit bags remain in front of the benches), giving the later kids more room.

I think you are right on about them taking up too much space in the locker room. Personally, I like the bags, and I bought my son one before the team mandated everyone use the team bags they bought! That obviously made me pretty upset, but in retrospect, I found the junior sized Grit to not have a whole lot of room inside. Maybe a ten year old is just at a weird size, but I wish I would have gone to the big one. Good news was, I got $100 for it and only paid $115 for it. They hold their value for sure. The guy who bought it actually hunted me down to buy it after he heard the team bag debacle.

I've seen 3 different sizes... there's the youth size (HTY 30") then the HT1 comes in two size, 33" and 36". So are you saying you wish you'd have gone with the 36" over the 33"?
