New NHL Site

Recommended Posts

Keeping up to date with the preseason and training camps, I've noticed some of the teams have phased in the new team TV which reflected the NHL network online, and to be frank I thought the main NHL page was in need of a big overhaul, and it looks like it will soon go live:

New NHL site

I think it looks much sharper and streamlined, and brings the league into the current century. What does eveyone else think?

I was thinking about starting a topic about this but figured it had been discussed somewhere already. It's definitely an improvement over the current site.

It looks ok but the pages load slowly.

Some of the hotels I'm in have wireless that's so bad the website won't load at all and they don't seem to have a low bandwidth version.

I'm on FIOS at home and it takes a few seconds to hop from page to page on the site. Just slow enough to be annoying.

Their frozen moment was redone, I don't like it. The old page needed a facelift, not a major and complete redo.

i was told that the frozen moment was being worked on... it was a rather popular feature. There's a learning curve on the production side, and they had to update two sites at once before this launch. Now that it's mainstream, I'd expect things to begin to be ironed out a tad...

as always, i'll pass on any constructive criticism

Also, check the site out with google's Chrome browser. The site is javascript heavy, which chrome handles exponentially faster... Firefox will be just as good when 3.1 comes out with script monkey. That should alleviate speed issues, its not so much on the data transfer side of things...

Anyone who designs only for the latest versions of browsers is missing the point. The vast majority of people do not keep their browsers up to date.

Case-in-point; The company I work for right now is using IE 5.something, nothing else works with their intranet pages. The fools are mandating a Vista rollout with up to date programs for 2009... after the company just about shut down when people couldn't transition to MS Office 2007.

NHL pages aren't blocked, but damned if I'll try to go to any of them at work. Slow as a brick on a sidewalk.

on my internet connection FF is doing it in three seconds, and chrome does it in 1... its not an issue for me, but it was mearly a suggestion.

I'd like to see the old league leaders section where the current 3stars bit is. I also access the site alot through my phone so maybe a wap version because having the main content at the top in Flash sucks bigtime...
