AG-X - would like opinions

Recommended Posts

Anyone have the Mission AGX's?

What foot shape do they fit? How are they holding up?

I wear 7k's now - they fit well except for ankle width and they are a little shallow at the bridge. Are the AG-X's an even lower volume boot?

Thanks.

i got a demo pair of AGX's a while back

they are stiffer than the AG series in the quarter panel of the boot, and soft up top around the ankles like other missions.

i find they fit a wide range of people, gave me a perfect heel lock and i normally wear S15 or 735

they are a high volume fit, if they are tight around the ankles, hopefully your LHS will heat fit them for you, as the padding will conform very nicely. Missions would be tight right around the fuel logos around the ankles if you have more prominent ankle bones

Hi

I tried the 735 earlier this year and swapped to an AGX. Both fit me about the same the Graf was 7.5 R and the Mission 8EE.

I have found far better heel lock with the AGX, much imporved stride length and all round agility is much better for me.

I did find the AGX to be a much flatter profile and had to lift the Pitch up to a plus1 setting. The comfort is great, sometimes wear them for 4 or 5 hours coaching and the anatomical features of the assymmetric cuff etc I find to be great.

My 1st ever Missions (been with CCM for years but finding latest skates just too stiff) and I really like them.

I had gone from RBK 7K/8K/9K > Flexlites > Fuel 90AG's > AGX...

I had nothing but issues with the RBK's... wider heel/ankle, and the RBK wasn't deep enough. The Flexlites fit well (in D width no less), but they felt way too 'casty' for me, even with the top eyelet skipped. The 90AG's were a step in the right direction for me- depth wise... but I was still having a little issue with the heel. I was getting nasty pins & needles when wearing them for an hour. After asking about, and some great feedback from Zac.. I went with the AGX. I've been in them about 3 weeks now, and I'm very pleased... the heel issues are gone, I have enough room in the ankle, I love the lower cut... I may have to grab a reserve pair when I get my next quarterly bonus. I was considering S500's just out of curiousity, but I've gathered they fit very differently from the current Fuel line.

interesting, I didn't realize the AGX was that deep. I may have to try it out, it has the ankle padding that is asymetrical to aleviate my F'd up ankle problems. I'm going to have to find a place around here that stocks these and try these on.

I'm stoked!

does it compare to the 709?

i would say it definitely compares to the 709 depth wise. its not as wide as the flexlite, 709, but i would say it is as deep

fellow employees at work that fit 709 and flexlites have no depth issue whatsoever in the mission agx

I think I remember reading that the EE in the AGX only makes the heel wider. Is that correct? I do not have a wide heel, but I have a wide forefoot, and a high instep. I am very interested in the concept of these skates, but was curious about whether to go with the EE or not. I currently skate in 8090's, size 8D.

Thanks for any info...

I found a local store - well, 50 kms away lol - that caries them - I'm gonna try to go by there tonight and try them on. If they work out I'm gonna sell the 7k's and buy them.

Chris - the 8090's are the skates that fit my foot the best with the exception of the depth - I was besting them apart at the bridge. I'll let you know how they work out, as it sounds like we have similar shaped feet.

Anyone know how these fit compared to an Easton S15/S11 ? I wear S11 in regular width and I find them to be a bit wide in the heel and forefoot for me.

I've tried the Mission L series in the past and the felt pretty good, along with an old pair of Mission RM inlines (circa 2002) and was wondering how the AGX would fit.

Deeper boot overall but slimmer on the heel and forefoot than the S-11/15. Better heel lock with the AGX and snugger fitting skate but not uncomfortably so. The supplefit is just that, slightly tighter but cushiony. Missions are a great skate when your adjusted to them and to top it off you can adjust them to the pitch that suits you the best.

Thanks for the info.

Do the new black AG's fit any differently to the silver AG's (eg. 95AG)? I tried a pair of 95AG about a year ago on the ice and the heel lock was less than spectacular.

(there are no Mission dealers here in Hong Kong, unfortunately. the pair of 95AG i tried on previously was a rink rental.)

Heel lock is much better on the black Fuels. They realized that was one of the areas where they screwed up.

Does anyone know anywhere in NJ that carries these? I am interested in getting a pair, and would rather support someone locally.

I actually checked there, but most of the ones listed are Modells, but this is too high end a skate for them to carry. I checked Consignment in Howell, but they don't carry Mission skates now. Each of the ones listed near me do not carry them. I was hoping a shop owner might say he had them.

First off a big thanks to zac911 for info about the fit of these skates!

I skated a Easton Stealth S7 size 8D before these. the Eastons were a bit longer than ideal, but still very useable length-wise. My AGX are 8.5D and the length is the perfect "feather the toe" performance fit. Heel lock is excellent, forefoot width is a bit more snug than the S7, but after wearing around the house a bit and one family skate they feel pretty good. I have always leaned towards a forefoot that was comfortable, which is not always good on the ice. These are snug but not painful. Forward flex is great. Depth is deeper than the S7 which is a bit shallow for me.

I really like these skates and have yet to bake them! I have a LHS that uses a CAG profile machine, they put a 60/30 the blades.( I saw the machine was set to 60/30 but they wrote 60/35 on the holder?) With the Pitch set to neutral I a bit forward, maybe due to the natural pitch of the boot as I don't think a 60/30 is that agrresive forward. The beauty is that I can play with the pitch settings! The gift that keeps on giving.

I have to say that I have purchased Graf 704, 735, and G35 skates, along with a few pairs of Eastons and RBK and the Mission AGX looks and feels at least as well made as any of the upwards of $500 skates listed above. Everything fits well and the holders sit very flush against the outsole. High marks for quality.

Thanks for the comprehensive review. I'm coming from S11's and was interested in details in the fit difference. How did the arch compare between the 2 skates?

For me the arch on the AGX is a little higher. I never feel the arch on the S7 but did feel the arch a little bit on the AGX when tightened firmly across the mid-foot. Backing off on the lace tension in the middle gave me great support thu the mid-foot with no pain. Also I have not yet baked the skates, so there is some molding that hasn't been done yet.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but wanted to confirm that the 90AG's are a deep fitting (high colume), wide skate. Is that correct? I'm thinking of grabbing some to convert to Inline skates for the odd occasion I play as they're only $120 so could be worth a shot before they disappear for good.

I've skated in mine (10EE) twice and Im getting the Bauer bumps as well as bleeding blisters on both feet (didnt have them baked). Higher arch and a bit less wide in the midfoot as the other pairs of Missions (S300, 110XP) I've had.
