NBH Supreme 70 Protective Gear...

Recommended Posts

Hey all...i did a search on the Supreme 70 protective gear, but really can't find much in ways of impressions....

i was just had a few questions in regards about it, as i'm thinking of upgrading from Supreme 30's to the 70's....i play in local adult leagues and skate about 2 or 3 times a week consistently...i have no real issues with the shins, but the shoulders and elbows are getting a bit bulky for my liking....especially the shoulders...no problems necessarily with their weight, just mobility....

so in regards to the 70's and those of you who use this protective gear:

1. How is the mobility with the 70 shoulders?

2. Is the sizing similar to what the 30s would be in regards to all of the gear?

3. Do the elbows offer a good amount of mobility and cut down in the bulkiness?

4. Are the shins as wide as the 30s? I have some pretty large shins/calves (tree trunk legs :(), and one of my favorite features on the One30 shins is that they really do well in covering the whole of the bottom portion of my leg...

thanks for all of you help guys!

I'm a pretty 'chunky' guy all around and I really like how my supreme 70 shins fit, probably my favorite shin in a while, but I've never used the 30's so i can't really compare the 2 :(

I have the Supreme 70 shoulders. I like them a lot, except for one flaw: Some of the inner padding has come lose, and moves around constantly.

The piece in question is shaped somewhat like an AK47 magazine (search google for Ak47 mag if you cannot envision it) . There is one on each side, covering your shoulder blades. But, when it starts shifting around, it just makes the pads feel a bit "off." It's bearable, but a bit of an annoyance. Other than that, they fit great and provide good mobility for me.

I cannot comment on the elbows, as I use the Itech 955 model...

I tried on the 70's Shoulder pads and thought they were a tad bulky but they were nice. I went with the CCM V06 they fit my body a little better.

I'm wearing the 70 elbows and preferred them over the 30s that I tried in the store. The bicep protection piece on the 70s is connected to the rest of the elbow pad by a flexible strap that gives it more freedom of movement. Also, its protection is segmented, making it feel like it bends better to stay out of your way.

I have 70 elbows i use for pickup, flimsy feel , not worth the $ imo......might as well buy a lower price elbow

Nothing really special to put the pad close to a one90

Best bet is buy the Vapor XXV elbow, very nice elbow for the $

love the shins. I've got pretty big legs and they fit great. Elbows are a lil cumbersome. Cant say bulky, but they're just not quite the feel i had hoped for. hope that helps

I find the Supreme 70's are a bit skimpy for padding compared to the 90's when it comes to the shoulder pads however the shoulder caps aren't too bad protection The shin pads are alright but just not as much calf protection as the 90's. The elbow pads not bad either but a little less forearm protection than the supreme 90's. I'd personally spend the extra money and get the 90 line if your in any kind of serious hockey however if your just in a beer league or playing pickup here and there the 70's line should be sufficient protection.

I use the supreme 70 shoulders, elbows and shins and the only thing i'd concider changing would be the shoulders, to something smaller. they are fairly bulky, but i dont find they restrict movement. the elbows and shoulders work well together and are perfect for me. coming off a partially torn acl i went from easton 300's to these, and they offer far more protection. havnt experienced any pain since switching so far, touch wood. I cant compare to the 30's but i'd imagin they'd fit you as i also have wide calves.

cant comment on how much truth there is in it, but i was told by a nbh rep (who was a bit of a boob) the difference between the 70's and the one90's wasnt worth the extra cash. the're supposed to be a bit a lighter, but at 95kg a couple of extra g's of padding isnt going to make any difference.

Maybe i just got a bad pair but my one70 shins cracked right at the top of the the knee cap. The crack went all around the extra rubber pad piece. Only had them about 4 months. Other than that i loved everything about them, light weight very protective. I would suggest just going with the one90s

Seems to have been some issues with the cracking of the knee pad in some of the Supreme line shin pads when they first came out. Haven't heard much since. I have the 90's and so far so good. Hung on to my old Reebok 8K's just in case it happened.

Also concerning the shoulder pads, I find the Supremes are very mobile shoulder pads and the only bulky area is at the shoulder caps. Compared to the RBK 9K's or the 5k's they are very sleek however. I think Nike/Bauer have a nice compromise between the bulky RBK/Jofa caps and shallower Easton low profile caps. In my opinion they offer some very good protection and shock absorption quailties.

My One90 shins have been great for me, but the fit runs on the smaller side. Any other brand 14" was big on me except these. I don't think there's a huge difference in the 70 and 90; only reason I went to the 90 was because the 70 was out of stock.

I've only tried on the elbows, but I also prefer the XXV to the Supremes.
