Stampeder 2 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 I'm surprised there wasn't already a topic on this. There is pretty much a guarantee that the Conservatives will win this again. What is everyone's thoughts? Anyone still not exactly sure who they want to vote for like I am?

willsnipe 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 Its because no one cares right now. They couldnt have picked a worse time for an election. There up against the us election, economic crisis, hockey getting underway, many viewing this as a pointless election etc. Im almost 100% sure the Conservatives will win another minorty Government, rendering this election a waste of time. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 An election is never a waste of time. Apathy is a waste of a vote.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 This time frame was picked for a reason. I'm off in about an hour then I'm heading out to vote. Not liking the current situation and where it looks like the vote is headed.
chef_ducky 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 Harper is smart. He picked a time where he suspected he would win, and will hopefully capatilize on it!
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted October 14, 2008 Did my duty an voted. Back when I didn't vote, about 18-22 or so...I always used to quote Geddy Lee when asked why I didn't:"If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice"But, that got old, adn I decided I should be voting...Now, I'm even more cynical...I was looking for the Monty Brewster option:"None of the Above".Failing that, I picked the one that annoys me least and put an "X" next to that name. mrusse01 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Harper is smart. He picked a time where he suspected he would win, and will hopefully capatilize on it!Harper lost his bet though, he was going for a majority. Now he is going to be in a tough spot because the Liberals will get that idiot Dion out as leader, and whomever they bring in (hopefully Ignatieff) will be a huge upgrade for them and pose a much tougher challenger for Harper next time around. I guess he figured this was his best shot at a majority, but when you can barely get any traction in Quebec or the GTA, it's going to be real tough for the Conservatives to ever win a majority. I can't for the life of me fathom why Toronto continues to vote Liberal, but it is what it is I guess. Personally I refuse to vote. I've never been in a riding that's been decided by one vote, so I correctly can conclude that my vote or lack thereof had zero effect on the outcome. Anyways, I'm a middle class white male, as Don Draper says, elections don't affect me.

Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I've heard that argument before, but that means anyone in the Western Hemisphere is American, and I don't think anyone considers the Peruvians as Americans.
chikinpotpie 137 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 What do you have against Peru? Technically almost everyone in the western hemisphere is an American, The only exception are the people in the Caribbean area. So when people refer to "Americans", who do they mean? To Paraphrase Jules Winfield: " America aint no country I've ever heard of. Do they speak English in America?"

To Paraphrase Jules Winfield: " America aint no country I've ever heard of. Do they speak English in America?"Um....what?Citizens of the country known as the United States of America, are referred to as 'Americans'. Just because you live in the continent of North or South America, you are not automatically 'American'. I guess if you want to go around categorizing people as to what continent they are from as opposed to the nation they belong to, you could do that. But it would be stupid. chikinpotpie 137 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 So why are only the citizens of the US automatically "Americans" and no one else is? Seems kind of exclusionary to me in that we are the only ones with a claim to the "American" moniker. Remember, up until 1867 Canadiens referred to themselves as "British Americans"

#44wannabe 4 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 To state a continent you probably have to say North American. If you were to ask a Canadian if they were Canadian, NORTH American or both they will likely look at you like you're an idiot and then say both.Canada is in North America, not America. Also people don't say they're going to the Americans they say they are going to the America's.

Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 I don't understand the angst behind ACORN.The analysis of the mishap with the 2000 vote in Florida suggested as many as 20,000 voters were denied the right to vote because they had the same name as someone ineligible (felon and/or ex-felon, I'm not sure which). The presumption was the majority of these people were poor and would likely have voted Democrat, yet Kathleen Harris' department wouldn't allow the review. (I'm not positive on the timeline, but those were essentially the events.)Why do you think Republicans tend to be against voter registration at the DMV? Because they know that poorer people are less engaged in the political process and would not likely register otherwise. The also know poorer people tend to vote Democratic. The point is voter fraud is shameful, but the outcry smacks of, "Oh, man, that sucks! They're beating us at our own game!" They are having charges brought against them in state after state. This isn't just Republicans crying wolf. And there are lots of felons still registered to vote in Florida.\\http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/sou...0,3762352.story
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 Yes, but Republicans have been caught committing voter fraud many times in my lifetime, far more than I ever recall Democrats had been.I'm not endorsing this in the slightest, but I find the selective memory disingenuous.
