New 2005 Skates!

Recommended Posts

Check it out boys, Great Skate has put up some of the new skates for '05.

Mission HE550

CCM Vector PF6

Bauer Mega 30-70

What's up with the Bauers? That was unexpected! I am dying to know if they are going to come out with some 8090 Roller skates or something High end, these still seem like lower end models.

The Vectors look pretty damn cheap too, I want a pair of the PF8's!

Some of the Mission gloves seem to be up too, also looking good on the prices.

Notice on the Bauers skates the TUUK chassis is no longer a hi-lo, but is called a "one-up". It looks like a 76-80-72-72 setup.

That's a good catch. I don't see why they keep trying to push the smaller wheels at the front, since Labeda has proven that the bigger the wheels the better the grip and acceleration. I would say stick some 76's instead of 72's in the front, that would be good. The boot is somewhat resembling a vapor boot, don't you think?

how have they proved it? Its all personal preference.

they look pretty nice...

Gotta agree with you there mate, They are very cool looking. Can we see some neon lights on the bottom of hockey skates soon? Then we can street race 'em...VRRRROOOOOM! ;)

something interesting i thought I would share with you guys. Apparantly Bauer is going to include an extra 80 mm wheel in each box of skates, so that if you want, you can change the back wheel on your skate. It will work perfectly fine with the 80mm.

And by the way, its actually a 78-80-72-72 set up, Bauer had rinkrat and hyper make a special sized wheel for them.

I hope they have improved on the stamped chassis they were putting on the Hi-Ho. That was kinda a downer on a $400 skate IMO.

its just a stronger lighter version of it. Aside from coming with one different sized wheel, its exactly the same set up as last year. The HIHO has an improved boot over last year, and has rinkrat hornet golds. Its rinrakts latest and greatest wheel. Trust me on this one, you guys are going to be impressed. To me, its a much better looking skate than Mission's. I really cant stand that white look to be honest.

Thats a good deal man. So no more that the 30-70 from Bauer? How pathetic! This pisses me off, they need to come out with a better roller hockey skate than that. Having such great technology and they don't even use it. Oh well, looks like I'm getting a pair of Vectors unless the Nikes impress me.

I'll tell you guys, i was so disappointed in the durability fo the Hi-Ho's last year, you couldn't dsicount them enough to make me want to buy them again. I admit, the boots were about the most comfortable i've every put on, but i skated in them, twice a week for 8 months, and there are two slits, about an inch long, on the insisde of each boot, right by the ball of my foor, about 1/2 a centimeter above where the otusole meets the boot. I can literally stick my little finger through the slit on one skate and touch my foot.

Unacceptable from a $400 skate. But hey, that's my $0,02. From everything iv'e read about the Bauer Vapor XX's durability, Nike must have taken a page from the Bauer design team on the Hi-Ho's. I hope the new ones hold up better for everyone else.

Sounds like a crease caused by the boots being too big, getting worn over time into a slit. Do your toes touch the ends of the toecaps?

Actually the HiHo's were based on the XII ice skates..same last anyway. Did you use the original chassis, or change it?..Just curious.

The skates were in original specs. I did not change out the chassis or anything.

As for them being too big, they actually were the perfect size. They have indeed been the most comfortable skates i've every worn. My toes just brushed the end of the toe cap when i was standing vertically. On top of that, the slit isn't in a place where the boot should or would normally flex. They have clearly worn through because of rubbing/friction with maybe the boards or the sport court, i'm not sure which. But i've used the Quest 1 skates before that fit the same way (although they were a different size because Nike changed their sizing). Those skates never wore down like the Hi-Ho's did.

I will say this....i bought the skates through epuck (and no, i don't work for these guys, but i've been playing hockey for 17 years and never seen customer service like this) and called them up. They are helping me out tremendously in getting set up with a new pair. In fact i just sent the Nike's to them to see if they could warrantly them with Nike, and they said they will take care of it for me. Otherwise i would take pictures and show you guys the damage. But i will never shop for anythhing from anywhere but epuck or my LHS from now on. Even if i find it cheaper, you can't beat good customer service.

Very true, also a great place for us EAST coasters as they are in Louisiana and we get our orders to GA within 2 days through Ground shipping. Let's try to scrounge up some pictures of those new Nikes, I want to see them.

Oh yeah, Kevin and the crew at epuck are first class individuals. I've ordered tons of stuff from them and they've always been great. You can't go wrong ordering from them.

Hope everything works out for you with the skates!

Exactly - I'm in Atlanta, so receiving things in 2 day is fantastic.

Won't get to show you the new Nike's as I have actually decied to go with the new Tour Beemers. I've already received them, and only had a chance to skate around a little bit for 3 minutes or so, but i think i'm going to love them.

Tour went back to their old skate design (ice skate toughness) so they are very stiff, and will need some breaking in (unlike the Nike's). But i reallly think i'm going to like the lo-boy chassis....i felt so fast with teh 4 80mm wheels.

I just didn't want to get another pair of Nike's to have the same thing happen all over. I loved the comfort and performance, was just disappointed in durability. I admit i'm hard on my skates (6'6. 210lbs and i skate very hard) but i've had Nike Quests 1's, Mission Wicked Lights, and some old Bauers that i converted to inline, and none of htem have fallend apart or failed as quickly as the Hi-ho. I may have gotten a bad pair, but i'm happy with my new Beemers, and i'm thirlled with epuck and Kevin's willingness to take care of customer and help out.

Where do you skate at? I am in Lawrenceville, and I usually skate at SGAA, GSC or The Cooler. What age do you play?

EDIT: Sunday afternoon we're getting a bunch of good guys out to play a pick up game at SGAA, PM me if you want some more info.

I'm atlanta proper. I've typically been playing a rec league in Marietta, but decided to step up the competition level a little. Would be joining a AA team at the Cooler, but their AA adult division didn't have enough reponse, so i've put a Single A team together.

I'm 27, so pretty much only get to play in the adult leagues. As for the invite for Sunday, thanks, but i've got family in town and can't get away, but please keep letting me know get some pick up going.

My son just got a set of the Beemers as well. As comfortable as he found the Nike HiHo's from the first usage, the Beemers were even more comfortable...we baked them, and first use was a 2 hour hard practice.....no pain, no blisters at all..right out of the box except for the baking.

We had already converted the Nike to the Hum'er chassis, so it took very little time to adjust to the Beemers...a little different pitch was all. The thing I liked was the plastic protection guards at the wide point of the boot where the floor will abraid most skates....thats where his HiHo's were failing after about 7 months..already holed through.

The Dynasty Pro x-soft's seemed to be equal to the Rink Rat Hornets for grip and performance...we shall see about the durability.

After only about 10 games/practices, the Dyansties are starting to show some pretty noticeable cracking and durability issues. I'm 6'6" and 215 lbs without equipment on, so i'm pretty hard on my wheels. I've got a set ot Hornets and Hotshots in the bag, ready to replace them when they do fail.

So far, the Beemer is everything it's cracked up to be. I love it....the bot, the chassis....and yes, the durabliity.

As you mentioned, the plastic strips for protection are exactly what is needed. As a strong, stay at home defenseman, i tend to slide in front of lots of shots, and I need the durablitiy of the skate to keep up.

So far so good....way to go TOUR and LABEDA (at least with teh frame).
